Youtube Barking Dogs Jingle Bells

Recall training has two basic concepts. The first is to treat your dog well each time he comes to you. Be it a kind word, a pat on the head, or a scratch behind the ears, Buddy will relish the affection you show him.

The second concept takes much more effort. Purchase a line that measures ten to twenty feet. Clip it onto Buddy's collar and take him to the park or into the yard. Then, start training.

The line allows Buddy to put some distance between you. When Buddy has ventured almost to the end of his line, call him. A simple, aBuddy come,a will suffice. Be sure to have lots of treats in your pocket just in case he shocks you and comes immediately. If he does come, give him a treat. The worst scenario is that you will have to reel in the line to make him come. With this method, Buddy is responsible for his own behavior, but you still have control over the situation if he doesn't obey.

If Buddy sits perfectly still when you give the acomea command, or watches birds and squirrels playing in a nearby tree, he hasn't obeyed. Either reel him in, or go and get him and bring him to the spot where you gave the command. If this is the case, Buddy gets no reward, but no punishment either. Down play the incident and try again later.

The next time you try recall training, follow the same agenda. Never repeat the acomea command. Buddy should come the first time he's called. If not, reel him in or go and get him and take him to where you gave the command. Down play the incident and try again later. Do this again and again anda well, you get the picture. Repetition is the name of the game. The process is long. It may take a week, a month, a year or more of constant recall training before Buddy gets it right and comes on your first command every time. Butadiligence pays off and in time when you say, acome,a Buddy will obey.

In the meantime recall training will have its ups and downs. There will be times when Buddy will come. When this happens, give him a treat, rub his head, and scratch his ears and say, agood boy,a or some thing similar. Whatever else you do, reward his obedience immediately. He'll soon get the message that obedience reaps rewards and affection.

Above all, never scream, yell, or hit Buddy if he doesn't obey. If you do, it will set your training efforts back to day one. Buddy will fear you and instead of coming on command, he will put more distance between the two of you. When he doesn't obey simply go to him, grasp his collar and gently take him to where you gave the command. This lets him know you are ready to enforce your commands and that he has no choice but to obey.

If you run into problems and Buddy just won't obey, seek the services of a professional dog trainer. It may cost a bit, but a professional will be able to point out where you're going wrong. It's well worth the expense to know that Buddy will respond to your commands. This ensures that he will always be safe, so you can enjoy each others company for many years to come.

Will they play the dogs barking Jingle Bells this year? I loved that song when I was a kid. It just wasn't Christmas until I heard that song on the radio.

  3. QUESTION:
I am looking for these Cartoons, one with Trains, one with Goofy and one with a Rabbit Ice skating?
I am looking for these cartoons, they are possibly from the 30s I was going to ask about one with Betty Boop in it but I found it it was made in 1933! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbtX61hXSfo

I am looking for a cartoon that starts out with a boy playing in a yard with his dog chained to the tree as trains keep going by. The boy hops on one of the trains, it is red and once it starts moving the train suddenly appears to have a face and it is sort of scary. Next thing you know the train starts racing other trains with scary faces they crash into eachother run on tracks upside down, meanwhile the dog chained to the tree is barking the whole time. The boy ends up back with his dog.

The next cartoon is pretty crazy, it starts out with Mickey Mouse falling asleep, next thing he is with Minnie Mouse or something I don't remember, then I remember Daffy Duck looking in a window seeing the girl duck with another guy or something, then Goofy keeps getting followed by a ghost that looks exactly like him with chains around his feet going up and down his stairs, then Goofy goes to a graveyard with this BIG guy digging up a grave he digs it so deep it goes to Hell, they push Goofy in and Goofy is trying to hang on to the grass so he doesn't fall in Hell then Mickey saves him? And is in his bed and the guy is there and they are hiding IDK it was a really weird movie.

The next cartoon is with a bunch of different cartoon animals getting ready for winter, a rabbit is ice skating and there is a turtle there who keeps opening his shell with coffee inside that he gives away/sells to people ice skating. The song at the end is jingle bells and it's like a karaoke with an egg bouncing on each word.

Also, there was another cartoon with an inventor! And there were little kids in an orphanage that he was making WEIRD gifts for at his little shop place he took all these different weird things and made stuff out of them I remember at the end there was like foam everywhere it was really weird.

Anyone know which crazy cartoons these are? It took me awhile to fine ''Snowman's Dilemma'' too.. Very good cartoon.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r68U-hIkds
OMG I THINK THIS ONE MIGHT BE THE GOOFY IN HELL ONE! HOW SCARY !! IT DEFINITELY STARTS OUT THIS WAY OMGG

Ever wanted to start training your new puppy? Here, you'll find useful dog training hints to get you started on training a new puppy.

The Belgian Sheepdog is a medium to large-sized breed. A member of the herding group, this breed originated in Belgium as with other herding dogs from that area - the German Shepherd Dog, Briard, Dutch Shepherd Dog, and others. The Belgian Shepherd Dog weighs an average of 55-80 pounds, and stands 22-26 inches.

Coat

The Belgian Sheepdog is a double-coated breed with thick, and soft inner coat and longer, slightly rough outer coat. They have medium length coat with remarkable fringes on the tail and legs, with thicker and lengthier hair around the neck in the chest and ruff areas.

Their coats are solid black. Some white parts are allowed on the chest and tips of the back, feet, and toes.

Activity

As with other working dogs, the Belgian Sheepdog is used to an active life outdoors. As such, they require a lot of exercise, such as long daily walks. They also love being off the leash in a secured yard/area.

Temperament

The Belgian Sheepdog is a placid and determined companion. With their high prey drive, they are inclined to chase pets, joggers, bikers, or anything that runs. They are very sensitive to touch. Socialization and obedience training should be done early to avoid puppies from growing up with a sharp temper. Overprotective, vigilant with strangers, cautious, and always on the move when not in control, makes this breed an excellent watchdog.

Overview

As members of the herding breed, Belgian Sheepdogs are excellent in herding and guarding. A highly intelligent and loving breed; these dogs do best in a country environment, but may also do well in home life. Having strong protective instincts, this breed makes a great guard dog.

Care

Known to be a heavy shedder, the Belgian Sheepdog should be brushed daily, clipping out mats that form, especially on the legs, in the ruff, and between the toes and outer ears. This breed is a seasonal shedder, shedding twice in a year, and should be given extra care during this period.

Owners should know that the Belgian Sheepdog is susceptible to excessive shyness, eye problems, epilepsy, and hip dysplasia.

Training

The Belgian Sheepdog needs a handler who understands how to work with an authoritarian and intellectual breed without the use of harsh punishment or rough training methods. This breed requires a firm and positive treatment for them to develop strong bond with the trainer. Dogs that are punished or yelled at will become frightened and hostile rather quickly.

Training this breed should be started as early as possible, particularly with the socialization part of training. Puppy obedience course is highly suggested for both male and female Belgian Shepherd Dog puppies.

This breed responds well to children, and kids oftentimes love to compete with Belgian Sheepdogs in agility and obedience games since they are naturally obedient. Working with this breed daily on fun activities, exercise, commands, and behaviors will assist them to feel needed by the family.

Character

The Belgian Sheepdog is intelligent, affectionate, sharp, and watchful. Needing firm socialization as early as possible, this breed tends to be very territorial. Having a strong herding instinct, this breed is known to nip at the ankles.

  15. QUESTION:
My good friend screams and makes her dogs bark to entertain herself?
I am a little bit worried about my friend, who is 21. She enjoys screaming to make herself laugh. She says she has liked it ever since she was a child and records herself screaming into a microphone and plays it back. It is not limited to herself, she enjoys hearing others scream. She also finds loud animal noises funny so at times she will occasionally make her dogs bark and purpose while dancing to get them going. She likes the farm for when the animals all start going off. She otherwise appears to be 100% normal and functional. She is in college with me and has a job and many people like her. She just has this quirky thing she finds funny. She likes this youtube video very much, kind of gives and example of what she likes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1fN42svKbw
    What is wrong with her?
I think I'm wondering if it is some type of sensory issue or possibly anxiety? Or is she just quirky? Its something you would have to witness to fully appreciate :-)

    • ANSWER:
Nothing is wrong with her. Just because you think she's weird doesn't mean she is. She's just different and there is nothing wrong with it. I thought this video was funny.

EDIT-Well judging from what you said, she likes being herself.

My neighbour is taking videos and pictures of my dogs, yard, house, car and not exactly sure of what else. He could be taking these of me, and/or my family. He has posted a video (on youtube) of my dogs barking at him, while he stands at the connecting fence, with the camera in their face.
He has taken videos of other people on the street too - so this is bothering not just us but others on the street. Curious what rights do I have? • ANSWER:
First of all, you need to be consistent. Even the best methods will fail you can't be ruthlessly consistent, and since you've been jumping around methods like crazy, you clearly haven't been very consistent. So, choose a method and stick with it. Assuming you choose the right method (which I'll get into more in a moment), you should know that before it takes effect, his behavior is likely to get worse. That's called the "extinction burst," and you mustn't give in during this period. You can read a great little description of extinction bursts on this page:
      http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm

Now, you don't really describe what he's doing, so I'll kinda try to piece it together. So, what, he pulls on the leash? Okay, then think about why he's pulling: he wants to go forward. Right? Right. Therefore, an efficient way to discourage the behavior would be to never allow him to go forward if he's pulling. The second he begins pulling, you need to immediately stop dead in your tracks, or turn in the other direction and walk that way. (Try to stick with doing one or the other. I personally prefer stopping dead over turning and going in the other direction, but it's all about preference, I guess.) Do this every single time he hits the end of the leash! If you choose to stop in your tracks, he should eventually pause in his pulling to wonder what's going on; when he does, praise him, call him back, reward him, and keep walking. (And if he goes right back to pulling, then just stop again. The first several times especially, you might have to stop a hundred times!) If a lot of time has passed and he isn't pausing in his pulling, try to get his attention. Make a point of rewarding him very heavily (praise, delicious tiny treats like chicken, hot dog or cheese, etc.) every time he's doing something right. Whenever he isn't pulling, reward him by walking forward and giving him treats and whatnot. If he's by your side, give him tons of treats! Basically, you want to teach him that when he pulls, he does not get anything that he wants (walking forward, treats, praise, etc.), and that when he doesn't pull, he gets tons of great stuff (walking forward, treats, praise, etc.).

Don't bother with "training collars." There is simply no need to use a choke chain, shock collar, etc. If you choose to inflict pain or another unpleasant sensation on him to discourage pulling, then at least go with the prong collar, which is a much better choice than the other two (but still probably unnecessary). If you want to use a fancy tool, then I recommend the Easy Walk Harness, which makes it a bit harder to pull. It won't perform any miracles, but it will make it easier to restrain him when he does pull. I do not recommend using a head halter like the Gentle Leader because they require proper desensitization and I have a feeling that you'd end up using it like a crutch; you can't rely on the tool to do the training for you.

Be very careful when you try to punish him, if you do (which I don't particularly advise). It's very common for dogs to associate punishments for the wrong thing. For example, say he starts pulling on the leash and barking when he sees another dog. You spray him full in the face with water and yell at him. Did you discourage pulling? No, probably not, because he wasn't thinking about the fact that he was pulling. He was focused solely on the other dog, and thus most likely associated the negative stimuli (being sprayed with water, being screamed at, etc.) with what he was focused on (i.e., the other dog). So the next time he sees that dog, he's bound to freak out even more. Whereas his barking the first time was just frustrated excitement and enthusiasm, he'll just get more and more honestly aggressive toward the other dog because he wants that dog to stay the hell away because he thinks that very bad things happen whenever the dog is near. (I'm not necessarily saying that this is exactly what might happen, but it's a good example of what might happen. It happens terribly often.)

If he's biting in play, then think about how two dogs might behave in play. If Fido bites Rover too roughly while they're wrestling, then Rover will yelp and stalk off to lick his "wound." Fido is left lonely and bored, and he thus learns to inhibit the force of his bite because he doesn't want the fun and games to end. So, every time his teeth touch your skin, *instantly* shriek or yelp "OUCH!" and immediately end the game. Immediately stand up, cross your arms and stalk right out of the room. Do not return for at least several minutes. When you return, greet him calmly, but do not resume play for awhile. Here are two articles that should help further:
      http://dogstardaily.com/training/puppy-biting
      http://dogstardaily.com/training/teaching-bite-inhibition

If he's biting for another reason, then you'll have to specify. I mean, does he bite you when you try to take stuff from him? That's called resource guarding. Does he bite you when you hold him or restrain him? That requires desensitization. So on and so forth. All of these problems require much different treatment than play biting.

It sounds like he hasn't been properly socialized. You should have been socializing him extensively throughout his life, so by now, other dogs should be no big deal because he should have interacted with so many of them. So, socialize him. He needs to interact with tons and tons of dogs on a regular basis. Enroll him social training classes! Enlist anyone you know with a dog to help you socialize your dog! If you can do this, try modifying this method:
      http://www.mastiffonlinecommunity.net/viewtopic.php?t=85
Instead of having him tied to an immovable object, you'll have him on the leash with you. Instead of only working with a person, you'll have that other person have a dog with him or her. Every time your dog reacts, stand there and wait until he stops. (It might take a very long time at first, and he might even throw some tantrums. Just ignore it and wait for him to quit it.) Then walk forward. He'll eventually catch on; since he wants to go to the other dog, he'll be discouraged from barking because when he does, he doesn't get to go forward like he wants to. You should also try using this method to teach him to walk well with other dogs:
      http://www.mastiffonlinecommunity.net/viewtopic.php?t=86
I also highly recommend the book "Feisty Fido" by Patricia McConnell, which is about dogs who are reactive on the leash. Oh, and "My Dog Pulls, What Do I Do?" by Turid Rugaas.

Finally, all of the breeds in your mix are high energy. You need to exercise him like CRAZY! You can understand that he's chock full of frustration and pent-up energy on the walk, right? Because until he's trained to walk well, the walk is barely exercise. You have to drain the energy before the walk. Run around like a loon with him! Play fetch! Play soccer! Go hiking! Go swimming! Just drain that energy.

  19. QUESTION:
    Can dogs understand words?
I've seen videos on youtube of dogs saying words, I just wanted to know if it's possible from them to actually understand what the word means by the context, or do they just repeat the master with no real inkling of what theyre saying, like when a human tries imitating a dog's bark

Pepper my Plott hound understands go, bye bye, no, stop, cookie, snack, bed, lets ride, lode up, paw, other paw and sit, others I cant remember at this time. 20. QUESTION:
high frequency sounds that dogs can hear and humans can't?
    http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=EWKVtGQ_KSg&watch_response
this is a video where the dogs get annoyed like crazy and start barking to the high frequency sound. in this video the sound is audible to most humans too..
anyway i tried playing various high frequency sounds (ones i can hear and ones i cant) to my dog to see how he would react and he totally ignored it. btw i know my dog isn't deaf, or partially.

why do some dogs get annoyed and some don't?

    • ANSWER:
I don't know why it only annoys some dogs and not others. All three of my dogs looked around like "WTF" but none of them barked or whined... and after about 2 minutes, they quit caring

  21. QUESTION:
why do videos on my macbooks "photobooth" no play properly on youtube?
i recorded my dog barking and my cousin dancing on my macbook web cam, on photobooth, and uploaded them to youtube. but on the dog barking the audio was WAY off, and the dance my cousin did for about 45 seconds was crammed into 16 seconds and he was dancing at a SUPER fast speed, why are my videos not uploading properly>!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    • ANSWER:
Despite Youtube stating that .mov movie file formats are supported for upload, I've had problems with them before as well, much the same problems you are having. I convert the video into another format that seems to be better supported.

Photobooth saves movie files as a .mov file type, and something like a mpeg 4 seems to work better. You can find easy to use, free software to convert videos on the internet. I use a program called "Handbrake". Works well for me.

So, you convert the video into an mpeg4 format, for example, and then proceed to upload that to youtube, once you've checked and made sure the converted video's audio is synced properly and the video is playing normally, so on. Good luck.

  22. QUESTION:
Do you think old dogs can learn new tricks?
Do you think old dogs can learn new tricks? I purchased a chihuahua back in July of 1998. 23. QUESTION:
Is your dog interested in mirrors?
I've seen a lot of videos on youtube of dogs going crazy when they see mirrors because they think it's another dog. They attack it, bark loudly, or run and hide. I have a maltese and he seems totally disinterested with mirrors. He looks at them, sees his reflection, then just turns his head or walks away. He could care less about them. Is that normal? What does your dog do when he/she sees a mirror?

    • ANSWER:
It's normal for puppies or dogs that haven't seen mirrors before or that um...don't learn as quickly to be interested but most figure out pretty quickly that there is no other dog. Whether or not they recognize that it is themselves is debated with the whole "self awareness" argument. I think they just learn that there isn't a dog.

My dogs ignore them unless they kind of see it out of the corner of their eye, just noticing movement probably, and turn to look at it briefly and go "oh yeah, no dog there".

  25. QUESTION:
Was my dog mad when he was barking or was he just playing?
Okay my dog has always barks at the mail truck when it comes by my house. Every day for as long as I can remember and he's 14 years old. Recently I put a video up of him doing just that for people I know to see. Many of them said "no he just wanted to play with/chase the mail truck and that his barking was excitement, not anger". Well I don't think so, he seemed mad to me. Here is his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N4VrZWjvA4&feature=channel_video_title Tell me what you think and if you can, please explain why. I love dogs and I just wish to know! Thanks everyone!
Thank you Lexi, he always lunges at the front door like that. Reason why we know to keep it locked when the mail truck goes by!

  26. QUESTION:
    My dog annoying???
I was walking my beagle around the park the other day, and this middle aged woman, actually stopped me and asked me what kind of dog I have and I said beagle, she looked at me with all seriousness and said "that is one ugly beagle" later on we kept walking and Honey (my dog) barked at another dog, and we kept going and as I was leaving getting in my car the woman came over to and said her bark was terrible, saying she worked at the SPCA and she has never seen or heard a beagle like mine. This really hurt my feelings, I love my dog and want the best for her. I find out that this woman works at my SPCA do I go confront her for my dog and I, because I'm starting a internship there in Febuary. Or do I let it go and just figure she is ignorant and arogant? Below I posted a youtube video of my dog if anyone would like to see.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWTMvBbrB5Y
    Happy New Year!
For Lexi and tiff, I could care less if people look at my youtube account. I put it there because I want people's oppinions on my dog because I love her very much. Maybe next time I won't post a video link or picture and let people be totally clueless, no offence but you sound just as rude as the woman that judged my dog.

    • ANSWER:
Next time that rude woman tells you something is wrong with your dog, tell her you love your dog and think she's beautiful, and she can stick that in her dang juicebox and suck it. I think your dog looks fine, maybe next time she says your dog is one ugly beagle, you should tell her she's one ugly woman.

  27. QUESTION:
Is YouTube safe for a 13-year-old?
I'm really mature for my age (I'd say I'm at the maturity level of maybe a 17-18-year-old). I know not to talk to creepos, watch X-rated stuff, post personal info, or otherwise do stuff my parents would disapprove of. I would mainly be on there to have fun watching/rating/commenting on videos. The videos I uploaded would probably just be funny videos like my dog barking at her own reflection, none of me.

I already have Facebook, and I think I'm quite responsible with that. My parents know my password; they check my account a few times a week to make sure I'm staying out of trouble. I have my dad and grandma on my friends list (I'd have my mom, too, but she doesn't have FB). All my friends are people I know in real life, and I always reject requests from strangers.

So, yeah...do you think it's okay for me to have a YouTube account?
I'd use the same password as the Facebook one.

    • ANSWER:
Yeah, you constructed a good argument, plus your grammar is excellent...

By my standards you're 70 I.Q points higher than the rest of people your age.

      Go for it!

  28. QUESTION:
My computer is making really weird noises?
My computer makes noises such as a dog barking, cars on a road, weird music and a doorbell...
Its annoying and I can't watch youtube videos without being disturbed. What can I do???

    • ANSWER:
      LOL,

I sounds like someone changed your sound theme as a joke, im assuming your using windows so follow this:

Control panel/sound,speach and audio devices/change the sound scheme

Than you will have to through all of them to try and find the original sounds for each item.

  29. QUESTION:
    Difference between barking and baying?
Alright, so I'm trying to explain to someone the difference between barking and baying. I know the difference, but I need a thorough explanation to show him that's simplified without needing in-depth knowledge or experience with dogs. The videos I'm sending him from Youtube aren't cutting it (although the difference is obvious to me), so what's an easier way of explaining the difference to someone?

This came up because I said I want to get a Coonhound at some point (after graduation).

    • ANSWER:
I agree; a bark is a very short, abrupt, sharp, rough sound coming from the dog whereas baying is more like a bark that is extended into a short howl.

When the door rings we all know our dogs go ballistic. Barking and sniffing the door and other things.
Tomorrow is that day when the door is going to be ringing constantly for 1-2 hours. What technique do you suggest for keeping your dogs calm? Where will your dogs be when trick or treaters arrive? In the backyard? Busy with some friends? Or is your dog the calm ones who don't bother to go to the door?

My dogs will be with me in the basement and a movie... and tennis balls. They LOVE tennis balls. Why should the kids have all the fun? :) They'll hear the doorbell and bark, but I hope to learn ways to distract them - perhaps I'll work on training them to sit when they hear the doorbell? Ooh, ambitious! :)

  31. QUESTION:
Girlfriend thinks my dog is too loud, I hate when her cat scratches my furniture?
My girlfriend just moved in with her cat and we haven't been getting along. She gets annoyed by my dog barking and I get mad when her cat scratches at my sofa. I suggested that we do a trade: I will get my dog debarked and she will get her cat declawed. It seems like a win-win to me, but she is saying that declawing is crueler than debarking and hurts the animal more. I don't really care which is crueler because, frankly, I don't care about my dog or her cat, but I still need to convince her that debarking is worse so she'll go through with the deal. I tried showing her videos on youtube of debarked dogs and how pathetic they are but it wasn't enough. What else can do I to prove to her that my dog will be in more agony from a debarking than her cat from a declawing? Please help, we're both animal lovers and this is ruining our relationship...

  35. QUESTION:
My Dog Has SEVERE Seperation Anxiety VIDEO URL INCLUDED!!?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3BswAXZC6s&feature=player_profilepage

The video above is a video of my dog Silvia having one of her freak outs that goes on every time we leave. We have tried all methods of training, Cesar Millan, Victoria Stilwell and many more, we have worked hard on all diffrent types of training methods nothing works. Please notice that in the video we IGNORE her when we come back. We've owned many dogs in our life so we know how to train but Silvia's Case is so severe nothing works. She eats off the counter, poops on the floor sometimes, attacks us when we show any signs of leaving, and She barks NON STOP the whole time we are gone. HELP ME.. I can't live like this anymore. What should we do?

    • ANSWER:
If you can honestly say that you patiently tried every method, it may be a good idea to go to the vet and ask about anti-anxiety medicine for her. My friend's dog needs it for the same reason and while it hasn't completely cured the separation anxiety, it has helped.

Other than that, try crate training her. Once a dog starts to see their crate as their "safe place", they'll feel secure in it and won't be so anxious. So get a big crate. Start feeding her meals inside it and throwing toys and treats into it often during the day so she'll associate it with positive things. Put her in it at night too - and if she barks or cries while she's in there, it is very important to completely ignore her; if you let her out, she'll learn that barking and whining get her what she wants. So get some earplugs and leave her. Also, if you go to let her out of it and she starts barking or crying, ignore her and leave her there until she's quiet. Sounds cruel, but it's very important. Eventually she will settle down and willingly go in the crate.

When you leave the house, throw a Kong toy filled with frozen plain yogurt and treats into the crate. Once she goes in, lock the crate and leave without making a fuss. Don't say goodbye to her or anything like that, just leave.

Also, work with her by gradually increasing the time that she's alone and by changing your routine to leave. She knows that before you leave, you put your coat and shoes on. So a few times a day, put on your coat and shoes and just sit down on the couch and turn on the TV, go on the computer, whatever, just don't leave. That way she won't get anxious when she sees you doing it.

Put her in her crate, then leave the room. Wait outside for a few seconds - if she's barking, stay outside until she's quiet; if she's not barking, go back in. Then repeat about 10 times. Now increase the time to thirty seconds, again staying outside if she's barking and coming back in when she's quiet. Do that a few times, then increase the time to one minute, then two, then three, etc. until you can leave her alone for five minutes without barking. That doesn't sound like much, but it'll certainly be a big improvement from where she is now. Do this a few times a day.

One thing I noticed in the video is that you come back into the house while she is barking. All you're doing is reinforcing the barking; in her mind, barking gets you to come back in. If you come home and hear her barking, wait outside the door until she is completely quiet. Then come back in and ignore her - don't look at her, talk to her, or pet her - until she calms down.

      Good luck and HTH!

  36. QUESTION:
How can I teach my dog to skateboard?
Alright, so this is actually a serious question :D
How could I teach my dog to skateboard, to actually put his feet on the deck and move it forwards? At the moment he has a little problem where all he does is bark at the wheels!

Probably a complicated trick to learn, but if you look at a couple of youtube videos, it has been done :) Any ideas on how this may be achieved?

    • ANSWER:
Sure, it is easy to do....

First put on your helmet and knee pads and elbow pads and some serious rump pads,

Then, you get on the skateboard and tell Loki to watch, watch mommie fall now, but the only part you want to learn Loki are the parts where I stay on the board......LOL

No, really a neighbor taught their sheltie to do it, it took him about 2 weeks to get the dog use to it.

Get someone to help you, you first want someone that can skateboard well, tee hee..joking
then you put Loki on a leash and walk beside them really slow making sure that Loki does not get near the wheels...

Then, you talk to him, soothing talk, okay let's go boy, let's go, now this is what my neighbor did for 4 days, then he got his sheltie to sit on the board, held her on, then scooted the board slow while holding her on....she wanted off at first, but then started staying on.

He then put the leash on her, sat her on the board, held her, while a friend pushed the board from the back, she started liking it, stayed on, then in a week, she was staying on by herself, did not have to be held on, but he still kept the leash on her for a few more days.

He then took off the leash, she got on the board by herself, he would put her left back leg offf the board and push the board, she would want to raise her leg, but then he would stop, put her leg back down, by the second day of puttng her leg down, she kept it down on her own..

Then she kept it up all the time, she would sit on it, push with her back leg to move it, he would let her go on the drive way only, never into the street...she would bark if he stopped her, she would want to go again.

Now, he holds the board, she gets on by herself, pushes of with her back leg and keeps the board going and she can go pretty fast now.......she is getting better and better.

He took her to the lake as well, and she can stand on a surf board, and she can stay on, she has great balance now........on both boards.

Good luck, be careful and do not bump your rump too much trying to teach Loki

      Be careful.

Let me know how he does..I know as you are, he will be pro and on the circuit pretty fast....

  37. QUESTION:
What to do with a baby gopher (as in the rodent)?
I think I have a baby gopher. After watching a youtube video labled 'baby Gopher,' I'm 90% sure. I don't know what to do with it though. I live in town. I don't mind weening it untill it can take care of it self. I have no Idea what it eats or needs. I found it cowering on my deck in the midle of the day just past the reach of my active basset hound leash. Who, by the way, was barking at it with her big dog bark relentlessly. I'm suprised the poor thing didn't have a heart attack an keal over right then and their. I don't know how it got on the deck in the first place. This week a baby gopher, last week I, again with the help of my basset, discovered a kitten has been living in my garage, what should I expect to find next week!?

    • ANSWER:
First, try to get the advice of a local wild animal rescue if you do not have access to a vet. Otherwise, if you have the resources like time and money, consult a vet. I do not know what kind of diseases they carry and or what kinds of vaccinations they need. As for the next animals you might expect, possums, rabbits, badgers, and other small rodents.

  39. QUESTION:
Remote collar? (opinions) (thoughts) (sucess stories)?
Some people find them cruel and some people adore them. I've recently been looking into one for my 2 year old havanese. So here is my situation. When I got her she was awesome off leash , then she got more independent. Not a good thing. So she listens in the house to basic commands like sit, stay , laydown and hight five but when we are outside on a leash she barks and people, dogs, everything! When there are no distractions outside she will sit on a leash but that's about it. The second I take the leash off she runs unless I have good treats like cheese or meat. I saw numerous videos on YouTube of dogs off leash with a remote collar and it really seems to work even after you take the collar off . And I am not talking about the " shock collars" I'm talking about simulation and vibration. Opinions?
Oh and if you don't know what a havanese is it is small about 8- 15 pounds. Mine is 11 , fairly common size.

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
theres always a better way then a remote collar remote collars usually make it worst because the shock not only physically hurts them but emotionally too

how can you make your dog to BARK whenever you want them to bark?
i saw this video in youtube and i want to try it!!! :)

I taught my dogs by saying "speak" then getting them to bark, whenever they would bark I'd click my clicker and give them a treat. After a while they understand, it may take longer for certain breeds.
If you don't have a clicker you can just praise them and give them a treat. :3 That's always worked for me! ;D

    • ANSWER:
No retractable leashes - they don't allow good control of the dog and they can break. I think they are a bad idea.

We use 4-6 foot long heavy nylon leashes. One dog uses a Halti because though he walks nicely on a leash 90% of the time he sometimes startles at things and he is very large and can hurt me if he pulls when he freaks at something. The other uses a regular nylon collar. She heels nicely and doesn't startle like our other dog.

Not much walking in our house, too many dogs, not enough time, Bad owner!

      Morning - outside run around
      Feed
nap (we get ready for work)
      Outside - run around again
Sleep all day while we are at work.
I usually go home at lunch and let them out for 1/2 hour
      Sleep
Home around 5ish. Outside - play - throw ball. Run like nuts.
      Feed
Nap or drool while we eat
      Outside to play
      Play in living room
      Outside again
      Bed.
      It starts all over.

Weekends are worse but we play with them more.

My dad said we were going to get an Icelandic Sheepdog and then he said no they are to loud (which isn't true if you train them, which we would do). So I wrote an essay. It's kinda long but I need to know if it is good enough. Thanks :D

I think you should get a dog for many reasons. I think the dog should be an Icelandic sheepdog. There are many reasons why you should get a dog for our house but i will state three major reasons. one, you were the one who brought up the idea in the first place. Two, having a dog can help us become more mature. Three, they are adorable.

Firstly, I would like to state that you brought up the idea of our family getting a dog. Mom did a lot of research and emailed a lot of people and even called people about Icelandic sheepdogs. Now, you are saying that they bark to much and will cause unnecessary noise. That is false because they will not if they are trained not too. The dog would only bark to tell us that the door bell rang and when it is running around outside because dogs naturally do that. The dog would help us with the door bell because it has a tendency to break and not be fixed for awhile.

Secondly, having a dog will help us mature as people. It will teach us responsibility. There are many ways that getting a dog can teach us to be responsible. We will have to train the dog which would be a responsibility. Training a dog will take time which will teach our family patience and that is something our family needs. Also one of us will have to walk the dog every day so that will teach us priority.

Thirdly, these dogs are adorable. You have to admit it, they are. Especially the ones that look like German Shepherds. Everyone is getting good grades in school so there is no reason getting a dog is a bad thing and it will definitely not effect our grades because we usually don't have any homework to do anyway. All the more reason to get a dog, because we will have time to take care of it and then there will be no time to play video games or watch stupid YouTube videos.

These are just some reason why our family should get a dog. Think about it. We all want a dog. We have all wanted a dog for awhile. Remember, you brought up the idea in the first place, having a dog can teach us maturity, and Icelandic sheep dogs are adorable.
I guess I'm a terrible writer. That carrier is definitely out. But I just wanted to make a point. Apparently I am not doing a very good job. I'm so sorry this is the 5th time he has brought it up and actually talked to people about getting a dog. It wasn't just a thought like "Wouldn't it be nice to get a dog." it was more like he emailed different websites to my mom and stuff. I am also so sorry I'm not good at randomly saying stuff and making up an essay in 5 minutes, ok? This lady my mom was talking to has this breed of dog and it doesn't bark besides the times i mentioned above. I guess that's because a therapy dog, but my mom kinda wanted to make the dog a therapy dog. I was just trying to sound believable. No need to be mean. I'm so sorry I'm 15 and write like a 10 year old.

    • ANSWER:
you are not a terrible writer and if my child gave me that and i was already considering a getting a family dog, i would appreciate your effort ... you make good points and your thoughts are organized ... and i would get you a dog ... when i was growing up i would beg and beg for a dog, when my dad actually took steps towards buying a dog, i was silently optimistic ... and he did give in after it all and the entire family loved that dog for 17 years ... and don't let these negative nellies get you down, they are sad in their lives and just want others to feel sad too ... you keep after your dad and i am sure you will get a dog ...

  45. QUESTION:
How long does it take a cat bite to heal? Will my cat attack again?
I've had my adorable house cat, Prince since he was a kitten and he has never, ever hurt anyone before now. I was lounging on the couch browsing YouTube when I played a video with this super tiny dog with the most ridiculous bark. My cat went absolutely crazy and attacked me. I'm positive my cat thought I was the one making the barking.
He bit me badly on my arm and right away I noticed it was infected. It's been 3 days since it happened and I've been to the doctor twice now. I've gotten a tetanus shot as well as 2 other shots (in my ass) and been taking prescribed antibiotics.

The wound is pussing and the redness is still creeping up my arm. I haven't been feeling well, either. Very fatigued. The only improvement I can see is that the redness has faded some. My doctor said that if it gets worse, I'll have to go to the hospital (which I understand completely but would rather not spend the money if it's not needed).

Can someone please tell me if what I am going through is normal for healing a cat bite?

And also, I love my cat very much, but I'm afraid of him now. I'm doing my best to not show him that I am scared. I know they can sense it. And I know that the YouTube video is what triggered the attack, but I can't help but be frightened that I might do something to upset him again.

Is it likely that he'll attack me again?

    • ANSWER:
sometimes infection occours when animals bite

I've never had an infection from a bite or scratch from my pets.

It really depends on many factors.. one is your immune system and overall health. Someone with diabetes or circulatory issues is more prone to infection/slow healing for example. It also depends on your pet ("outdoor" cats are more likely to carry bacteria that can cause infection as opposed to "indoor" cats).

As far as attacking again. Sounds like displaced aggression. He heard the dog barking and that angered or frightened him, but he couldnt attack the dog, so he attacked the next closest living thing, which happened to be you.

  46. QUESTION:
    Colbert Report Theme Song?
    Hey everyone,

Do you know where I can find the audio or a video of the opening theme song to the Colbert Report? I've found theme songs like that of The Office on YouTube, then converted the file to mp3, but I can't find any video or even a link to the theme song. At the best I can find a video of a dog barking in front of a TV while the show is starting, but I'm looking for a clear, audio file of just the theme song. I don't use Limewire, so that's out of the picture, but do any of you know of a different approach?

    Thanks in advance.

    • ANSWER:
      http://www.televisiontunes.com

this site has the theme tune of The Colbert Report. under C. it gives you the option to download it as an mp3. I have downloaded a few theme tunes off this site.

  47. QUESTION:
Need opinions on my pony for sale?
He's about 13 hands, 6 years old, POA / Welsh cross, white flecks and a sock on his right hind. Walk / trot, still polishing his canter, has great brakes. I've ridden him in a halter bareback, and jumped him 2'6. He's VERY calm, not phased by barking dogs, or other spooking horses and is great at new places. He can also leg yield, side pass, and do turns on the fore hand. He's in CA, we have him at k, but highly negotiable.

    Here's a video of him, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJn-vBbeSOY

    Thanks guys.
Yes, I have owned him since he popped out of my first pony, and I have trained him by myself.

Oh and he also lunges, trailers, and ties.
Yes he has been to a show and was great, he did intro a and b and both scores were above 65%, and at our next pony club meeting in 2 weeks a couple of our smaller riders are going to get on him for a little.
    Haha thank you Meagan :)

horse lover, he loves doing any job, and he loves playing with toys, I was once trying to see if he could do games for our pony club so I picked up cones and he decided he would pick them up and carry them for me! haha. Yeah I would definitely do a lease, I love my pony.
Yes he has been to a show and he was great. We plan to take him to more upcoming shows. And we plan to have some of the junior riders in our pony club ride him a little bit.
Okay I will ask my mom to drop the price down a little on his ads. Usually when he takes odd distances it's because of me. When I first started jumping him I was trying to guide him through every step because I still wasn't sure how he would do. I recently jumped him and I decided to jump like a beginner, I basically sat there and he did all the work and he had it all figured out!

    • ANSWER:
I too am going to agree with the other answers so far and say that 6k is a little high. I would ask 5k and be willing to consider offers of 4k and up. With the economy, horse prices have either sky-rocketed or dropped, depending on the horse, and for most youngsters, they've dropped. I'm currently looking to add a pony to my roster that's around the same age as yours that just needs some finishing up over the winter and then will do the A circuit hunters next season, and the ones I'm looking at are mostly between 8k and 10k, so a good deal of them are only 2k more than you're currently asking. That being said, I think he's really cute and that you've done a great job with him. He jumps from any distance and doesn't seem bothered. I think he'd be a fantastic pony for a kid who wants to show locally and/or do pony club. I'd trust him with my kid (if I had one). I think if you lower your price a little, you'll probably sell him in a flash, and I doubt you would have any trouble finding a lease.

Walking Barking Dog Toy Barnie

Nothing is more annoying and stressful than to deal with constant dog barking. It is a frustrating and futile experience to control this unwanted behavior without a basic understanding of why they bark.

Dogs bark for various reasons. It is their way of communicating to you their moods, excitement and to get your attention to their needs. It is not mere noise but in conjunction with their body language, tail movements and facial expressions they tend to convey their message across to you.

Here are some instances where they convey different meaning. High-pitched short tonal bark with swift tail wags when he is in a playful mood. Low gruff bark gradually increasing to howlingwhen somebody is at the door or near the house. Loud bark with raised hackles when he sees another dog or cat. High pitched incessant bark when he is lonely or distressed and so on.

Once you know what triggers the barking then putting a fix is an easy task. Reasons for barking fall into two main categories - Basic behavior problem and situations and circumstances contributing to the barking. Barking on instinct is natural and should not be restrained.

Here are some proven techniques to stop your dog's continuous barking, which is unwarranted and not natural:

* Teaching your dog what is an acceptable behavior and what is not should be the first in your dog behavior training. Barking constantly in an attempt to get your attention and forcing you to submit to his needs is not good. Just to stop him from barking if you give a treat or play then you are encouraging him to bark even more in the future. Just walk away from him and don't even look at him. He may be confused and bark harder at first but by consistently reinforcing this you will have better control over this behavior.

* Teach him "quiet" or "enough" command whenever he barks. Explore the reason for barking before you hush him. Pat him and praise him immediately when he stops barking. He will learn to be quiet by associating the command with the praise.

* When your dog deliberately disobeys any of your commands, he displays his dominant position and if left unchecked will get worse with time. He needs to realize at young age that you are the authority leader an Alpha dog and he is below you. Dogs are well behaved when they know you are the leader of the pack and form a cordial relationship based on faith and respect.

* Boredom is another reason for constant barking. Dogs need to be engaged constantly and exercised enough to get rid of their boredom. Take your dog for a long walk every day or spend time with interactive plays like fetching the ball.

* Loneliness and separation anxiety are other causes of constant barking. They bark in an effort to get out of their confinement when left alone. Vigorous exercise before you leave will make him sleep when you are away and with chewy toys and items around will keep him busy till you return.

Bark aka shock collar use to stop dog barking is not human and has long-term psychological implications. Conditioning with praise and reward is the most compassionate approach to any dog behavior problem.

Who To Call About Barking Dogs Las Vegas

What to do in Las Vegas, lets see... The Adventure Dome at Circus Circus. There they have The Canyon Blaster, the only indoor double-loop, double-corkscrew roller coaster on the planet, Chaos, a three-dimensional tilt-a-whirl, tilting, spinning, and flipping all at the same time. The Inverter keeps you upside-down and staring at an upcoming wall of concrete for a full four seconds before turning you right side up again. Rim Runner is the only indoor water flume in the world dropping you 60-foot and will soak you good. And then they have the Sling Shot, which shoots you straight up a column at 4 G's.

The New York New York has a really cool roller coaster called the Manhattan Express that lasts two minutes and 45 seconds; it's the longest-lasting ride in Las Vegas. It has an insane 540-degree spiral, a 144-foot drop and runs at 67 MPH.

The Sahara has a roller coaster the call Speed. You will be catapulted from the launch area at 35 mph around the first curve and plummet through a mist-filled tunnel 25-feet below ground and then through a 72-foot loop, running about 70 mph, and speed through the Sahara's marquee sign to the top of a 224-foot tower. They then do it all again... backwards. This ride will last about 45 seconds.

Then if that is not enough for you, you can go to The Stratosphere Towers, which stands about 1000 feet off the ground. It has three rides at the very top and ALL are VERY scary! The Insanity is a spinning ride that dangles you over the edge. (1000 feet in the air!). The X Scream, this one is a seesaw thingy that dangles you over the edge. (1000 feet in the air!). Then there is the Big Shot, You are strapped into a chair with your legs dangling, and they shoot you straight up the tower's steeple, 160 feet in two seconds, at four G's. Then they free-fall you so you get negative G's, then shoot you up again, (1/5th of a mile in the air!).

And then for nighttime entertainment you need to go to Fremont Street Experience. That is downtown in the old part of Vegas on Fremont Street. You have all the casinos, like an open mall type atmosphere with kiosks and entertainment. Some weekends they will have two or three stages set up where different bands will be playing. Then there is the world largest television. The canopy that covers the entire street from casino to casino and about four or five blocks longs will play some really awesome stuff about every hour.

Hope that helps you out. Have a good time.

What is the best way to stop your two dogs from excessively barking?
I have two dogs, a pitbull/retreiver mix and black lab/retreiver mix, and the one is about 5 years old while the other is getting close to being 8. The main problem is that they have been raised in a household where there were hardly any visitors besides the mailman and a few friends etc. Now that we have moved, we have more people over and there is more excitement around the house. My two dogs do not stop barking. And they continue even if you tell them to stop and such, they go on and on. Eventually, if someone is in the house long enough, they will stop barking and rest...but then as soon as that person gets up to get a drink both dogs jump to their feet and start loudly barking once again. I was considering getting shock collars for them both to try and stop most of the barking but I wanted to get advice from you guys first. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Barking is generally considered a normal behavior that most dogs display. Some breeds tend to bark more than others, and domesticated dogs seem to bark more frequently and for different reasons than wild dogs. Barking is, after all, a method by which dogs communicate with one another and with their human companions.
However, dogs that bark in excess can become annoying or downright disruptive to the general peace. Some cities have ordinances to govern the barking of dogs and assess fines or other penalties to people who own dogs that bark excessively. Barking has even been known to cause neighborhood disputes and subsequent court battles.

It is prudent, therefore, to learn how to control your dog's barking. To do so, it is important to understand the reasons that dog bark.

      Why Do Dogs Bark?
We've identified seven general reasons for barking. Each generates a different kind of bark with a unique sound.

      1. Barking to induce play. This bark is generally muffled, with accompanying tail wagging and the characteristic crouching with head lowered to the ground, hindquarters raised. Dogs will stop barking as the play proceeds. If you do not play with the dog, the animal will eventually give up and stop barking.

      2. Barking to discipline young. This sound usually involves a snap and a sharp bark, uttered when puppies or younger dogs do something that irritates an older dog. The bark itself generally does not persist, as one or two warnings usually stop younger animals in their tracks.

      3. Barking to warn of danger. This is a deep, repeated bark. The dog's tail will be motionless or lowered to the ground and the dog's forelimbs will be widely spaced on the ground. The barking will generally persist until the source of danger is removed or until the dog is able to retreat to a position of safety.

      4. Barking to threaten intruders. This bark may include an angry growl. The dog may raise its hackles and the hair on its back and tail. The dog will plant all four feet squarely and assume a fighting stance. As the dog barks, the teeth and gums will be readily visible. To stop such a bark, you must either remove the intruder or remove the dog from the situation. Sometimes, stepping to the dog's side and assuring it that all is well will cause it to stop barking.

      5. Curiosity barking. In general, this bark is displayed when there is some activity near a dog, but in such a place where the animal cannot have a good look. It is as if the dog is saying, "Hey, what's up?" The dog will display excitement and tend to pace erratically with a slightly wagging tail. To stop the barking, all you have to do is let the dog see what it is curious about.

      6. Barking for companionship. This is an incessant, repetitive bark, accompanied by a relatively motionless tail and concentration toward the area most associated with the dog's owners. The solution to this type of bark is to spend more time with the dog and to allow the dog access to the area where humans spend their time. This bark is often displayed by dogs that are ignored, tied out by themselves or locked up alone.

      7. Barking for reward. Finally, dogs can be inadvertently trained to bark and will persist with remarkable resistance. Barking can become associated with almost any activity that leads to reward. For instance, a dog that barks at garbage trucks because they intrude within its territory will learn that persistent barking leads to the disappearance of the trucks. This rewards the barking behavior, and a cycle is begun that is difficult to break. Persistent barking can then generalize to other objects-school buses, neighbors walking by, children on the way to school, the paper boy, mailman, milkman and so on. To break the cycle, it is necessary to interrupt the natural system of reward.

      Solutions to Barking
The first five reasons for barking are rarely the cause of "excessive" or "annoying" barking. They are usually specific to certain situations and short-lived.

The sixth and seventh reasons are those most likely to be considered problem barking, and they are not unrelated.

Barking for companionship can turn into barking for reward: The dog barks to get its owner's attention, the owner comes to the dog to tell it to be quiet, perhaps petting it or playing with it, and goes away again. The dog is quiet while the owner is there, but has learned that barking will bring the owner back. Thus the system of barking and reward is established.

A solution, again, is to spend more time with your dog and have it near you rather than tied up somewhere separate from you.

However, if your dog is separated from you and it begins to bark to get your attention, do not immediately go to the dog. It must learn that barking will not guarantee your presence.

By spending more time with the dog at regular intervals not instigated by barking, your dog will feel more assured that it will get sufficient attention from you and will not have as much inclination to bark for companionship.

How do you teach a barking dog to distinguish between friends and strangers?

The solution is to show the dog that certain individuals (garbage collectors, mailmen, milkmen) are, indeed, friends.

To accomplish this, the dog has to be introduced to these people and given an opportunity to get to know them. While this is not always practical, it is nonetheless a potential solution.

As you restrain your dog, stop delivery people and have a short conversation with them, letting them meet the dog for a brief period. Repeat and lengthen the process over the next few weeks.

Eventually, your dog should accept these individuals and all will be well until your regular mailman is sick and another takes his place.

What do you do with a dog that barks at guests in your house?

One solution is to take the dog to another room and give it something to do. Or, if the guest comes to your home often and you don't want to have to lock up the dog every time, work to gradually introduce one to the other. Have the guest get on his knees, pet the dog, offer it a treat, and more or less become part of the family. Let your dog establish the speed at which this relationship develops: Don't force it, or your dog may become alarmed by a "pushy" guest.

How do you deal with a dog that barks at the phone?

This is simply a case of a dog that has been reward- ed for barking at the phone ringing. When the dog barks, someone even- tually answers the phone and it stops ringing. To stop your dog from doing this, have a friend call and let the phone ring until the dog loses interest. Continue over a period of days, and in time the dog will learn that barking at the phone ac- complishes nothing.

Finally, what do you do with the dog that barks while you are away from home?

There are several possible solutions. One is to act as if you are leaving, then stand outside the door until the dog barks. When it does, return and scold it verbally. Another is to get your dog a cormpanion - but you might end up with two barkers!

A third is to use a sound-activated tape recorder. When the dog barks, the sound switch turns on the tape recorder for a minute. The tape plays your voice scolding the dog. Some systems can repeat as many as 45 times while you are away.

The best way to reduce your dog's barking is to pay attention to the reasons for the bark. If you can satisfy the dog's needs, barking will automatically be reduced. By the same token, learned barking can be extremely persistent. Internal rewards can cause the cycle to go on for years. The best solution is prevention, so be aware of the possibilities and work to stop problem barking before it starts.

  8. QUESTION:
Are there ways to stop a dog from barking?
My two dogs are about 6-7 monthso old, at the smallest thing they start barking like around 3-4 am. I need help, are there even such things as sleeping meds for dogs ( i think they wasted too much energy barking they need a few hour rest ) lol!

Thanks to the people who tried to help me out!
Can a dog also drinnk Nyquil or Benedryl? I'm just wondering but I will never give it to my dogs if something bad was in it.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi!

It's in a dog's nature to bark. They enjoy barking, and they bark for many reasons. They will bark when they want something, when they are playing, when they are establishing their territory, when they are frightened, when they are annoyed, and when they are just saying "Hi!" Too much barking, however, can drive a dog's family--and their neighbors--crazy!

  9. QUESTION:
Ways to help my dog stop barking as much?
hi, I have a pomeranian who barks non-stop. I give him treats when he is quiet, but he still barks whenever I leave the room. Is there some advive on how to make him stop barking as much?

    • ANSWER:
First thing is to figure out WHY he barks. Chances are that your pomeranian is rather spoiled, that he thinks he's the boss in the house. When you leave the room, he gets frantic, because he thinks he's supposed to take care of you, and when you're gone, he doesn't know what happened to you and he can't protect you. Think of how a mom or dad would feel if their child went somewhere and they didn't know where he was and couldn't take care of him because he was gone.

So you have to teach the dog that he isn't the boss of the house. You have to teach him that you are the boss of HIM.
There are three "MUST READ" books you can probably get at Amazon.com. They will teach you how to be the boss of your dog while still being kind and loving to him.

      1. The first is "The Dog Whisperer" by Cesar Millan. Teaches you how to be a pack leader.

      2. The second is "The Dog Listener" by Jan Fennell. Teaches you how to get willing cooperation from your dog.

      3. The third is "The Art of Raising A Puppy" by the Monks of New Skete. Teaches you how to get a puppy started right as a member of your pack.

And finally, make sure your dog gets lots of exercise. Take him for walks several times a day. He can walk for 5 minutes for each month of his life up to about 12 months, but because he's such a little dog, don't walk him for much more than that in any one walk.

And keep on giving him treats when he stops barking. Never yell at him, because he'll think you're barking back at him. Don't overdo the treats, though, or he'll get fat. Start out by giving him a treat when he first stops barking, then increase the time by 5 seconds at a time, so that after about a week, you're giving him a treat about 15 seconds after he stops barking and after two weeks, you're giving him a treat 30 seconds after he stops barking. After that, mix it up. Sometimes give him the treat right away, sometimes after 10 seconds, then after 20, then after 10, then after 30, then right away, and so on.

But do remember that Pomeranians are barkers. Most of them bark almost all the time.

      Good luck!

  10. QUESTION:
What is the best way to stop my dogs barking at night and early morning?
They fight with each other quiet a bit too. They get treated the same feed the same, but feed separately otherwise one dog doesn't get any.

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like there might be a dominance problem. Are they both the same sex and not spayed? Is there other dogs around your house that bark too? My dogs bark a lot when the others get going outside and if they bark inside they get popped on the nose and told no. They also make collars for dogs to stop barking, some shock and others spray out a scent that dogs don't like to teach them not to do it.

  11. QUESTION:
Any effective ways to stop my dog from barking when I tie him up?
I take him for walks to the local shop where I live. Hes learned not to bark at other dogs in yards, but when I tie him up outside the shop, he barks like mad when I walk away from him. He then barks at people, cars, everything.

    • ANSWER:
      LOL!!!

Don't you hate it when people don't read the question!!
      Ha! Ha!

      Anyway...

This is a case of "when the cat's away the mice will play".
You aren't right there to give the correction for the bad behavior, so he goes right back to his old ways.
Also, "pack mentality" in dogs tells them being left behind is a bad, bad thing. Remember, he doesn't understand, "I'll be right back". He's acting out a little in frustration and fear.

      What to do?
Pretend to walk away, wait for the bad behavior, and give a correction. Perhaps a friend could hold the leash and give the correction, but only if he misbehaves with the friend.

Someone mentioned a toy to keep him occupied, that's a great idea.
Look up the "guard" command. It's not for every dog, but it could distract him by giving him a "job" while you're gone.

  12. QUESTION:
what is the best way to stop my 3 dogs from barking?
hi we have 3 yorksshire terriers and any noise they hear they dont stop barking at it what is the best way to stop them barking and by not having to pay to have them shutup one of them is 6 years old the other is 2 and a half and the other is just over 1 and there still barking now any gelp please

    • ANSWER:
Yes, barking is a natural form of behaviour, but dogs need to learn WHEN to bark, esp if they living in YOUR house.
What you do( & this may sound cruel, but believe me it's not!) each time they bark, you need to chuck them with something that will startle them.In other words, you're wanting to create a startled response at the exact moment the dogs bark, so that they can make the association:each time i bark, this thing comes from no where, therefore i'll avoid barking at a specific thing. The other imp. thing is that they mustn't see it coming from you!
Therefore...Barking...let the item strike them.give no attention.
Next time ...barking...throw some place close by.let them make the link.
Lastly...Barking....just let the item make a noise.
We normally use an old money tin with only the base filled with coins.
      Believe me...it works!!

  14. QUESTION:
Last night I could not get to sleep because my neighbours dogs would not stop barking.?
In order to get them to be quite i fired a few shots with my handgun. I know it is wrong, what are some other ways to get the dogs to stop barking?

    • ANSWER:
I hate that with a passion. I just got some new neighbors and they have an old pit bull. That dog barks constantly, all day all night. I kid you not. The dog barks all the time and I'm like geez I wish these people would shut their dog up! The neighbors before them had two Huskys that like to jump the fence into my yard and eat my dogs food. My outside dog (a pit bull mixed breed) just let them...lol They were too big for him to fight I guess.

  15. QUESTION:
are dog whistles effective to stop dogs barking?
I read somewhere that if i Blow on a dog whistle a certain way it might bug a dog so much it stops barking, since it will associate the sound with the annoying sound. is it true?

    • ANSWER:
They act to distract the dog from it's barking but it is a temporary measure. If the whistle is noisy, your neighbors can file a complaint for the same noise ordinance violation you should be doing, so be sure to use a dog whistle whose tone is indiscernable to the human ear.

Can you direct the neighbors to a trainer or offer them alternatives towards training their dog not to bark? You mentioned in your previous post that you didn't know if they just didn't care or know how to stop the problem. Offering them a solution is your first step in resolving the issue. If that fails, then your next step is to file a complaint for violating the noise ordinances in your area. Document the problem both in a log and with a camcorder for evidence.

  16. QUESTION:
What are some humane ways to stop my dog from barking?
I have a German Shepherd , he is about 8 months old . My mom and I got him and we both wanted him for his friendly personality. My dad hated him from the start and wanted nothing to do with him, so I started training him and now he can sit and wait at the door and a few other things. Now, I am the only one that loves him and we are his 4th home he has came too, my mom doesn't like him any more because he barks and I am working with his jumping problems. They both want to get a shock collar, I have seen dogs with them and I don't believe that they are necessary (I don't believe in choke chains either). I would like to know some more humane ways to train a dog to stop barking when in the kennel or away from me. My dad says that it doesn't hurt the dog, but the previous owners hit him with brooms and once a wrench, so now he is submissive to things that may hurt him and I think it would not be right for him, any advice? Thank you ♥
ps I realize it may work for some dogs.

    • ANSWER:
Wow i am sorry your going thru this with your dog and your parents are trying to shock him into submission.Dogs bark as that's how they express their selves' but shocking and hitting would make him mean and not trust anyone again. He has been thru hell with his other owners and i thank God he had you to look after him.I rescued a poodle that had 2 broken legs and had been screamed at so much he was a nervous wreck. He lived a great life and laughed yes laughed and lived 4 ys till he died of heart failure.I am so glad he had a nice life after going thru hell with his demon owners' before me. edit.. Many dogs bark at night outside and if he comes in at night that would help' and for barking i am clueless except for shaking a can of coins or beans to get his attention..Lots of luck as you'll need it with what your going thru..

The way to stop him from barking is to give him an interesting life. Long walk in the morning, then he's got something to dream about till lunchtime. Long walk in the afternoon before supper. 20. QUESTION:
What is the best way to stop my dogs from barking without the use of shock colars?

    • ANSWER:
I had this problem when my dog was a puppy. We used an ultrasonic bark control box we got from Petsmart for about bucks. Every time she barked it let out a high pitched sound. My cat would promptly go over and slap the dog in the face. Now the dog doesn't bark and she doesn't mess with the cat either! Took care of two problems!

  22. QUESTION:
What is the best way to stop dogs that bark at the sound of the doorbell?
My two pomeranians bark everytime the doorbell rings. We have tried so many ways to try and stop their behavior but it never seems to stick with them in the end.

    • ANSWER:
      Correction and redirection.

First question: do you want the dogs to bark at all? A warning bark? Or none?

Have someone you know help you out - they ring the bell and when the dogs bark (have them on a leash) you find something they dislike. A spray with a water bottle, a loud noise, anything that distracts them. Praise when they go quiet and bring them to greet the visitor.

Sometimes a toy or treat will get their attention - throw one when the bell rings after you correct the bark. Let them have a chewie if you know someone is coming over. My dog usually goes nuts for doorbells but if she has her rawhide she won't budge.

Bark collars are last resort. I would look into regular obedience training. It will help.

  23. QUESTION:
I need some good ways to teach my dogs to stop barking at everything?
I just moved into an apartment & my dogs are used to a yard where they can bark & do what they want. How can I help them adjust & be quiet? Thanks so much
Thanks midnight ♥ One dog is almost 2yrs & the other is a 10yr pom. The pom is very hard headed! I was thinking about a mussle just till they get the point. Thanks♥
Thank you guys so much!!! ♥ Im gonna try them all & just hope my dogs get with it :)

    • ANSWER:
I learned this really great trick recently, and it works on my dog because she hates water. What you do is as soon as they start barking (not after they stop) you spray them in the face with a water bottle. It sounds mean, but it's not. Just give them a little squirt and my dog shuts up and runs away. Give it a try!
      Hope this helps!

  24. QUESTION:
Whats the best way to get dogs to stop barking?
i have two puppies and they never bark when i get home and one neighhbor says that they never hear it but another is giving me a really hard time about the barking, i have tried everything from collars to locking them insidie my apt all day and at the end of they day those options are to mean. i didnt have the heard to put on the shock collar for more than 5 minutes, couldnt leave them inside casue i trianed them to poty outside and i donrt know what else i can do. any input would be nice

    • ANSWER:
Is the neighbour who says she's never heard anything just being nice? You must ask somebody else who you know will give you an honest answer. Its very possible that the little mites feel abandoned by you when you are out and they are locked outside. I just hope they have shelter, food and water and enough space to play safely.
It needs stopping now though, if your neighbour is getting really p'd off with the constant yapping/barking - they might try poisoning your dog.

  27. QUESTION:
Ways to teach an old dog to stop barking?
my dog was very well behaved until we got a new dog. now he barks like there is no tomorrow. weve tried spray bottles and muzzles but they havent worked. my dad just bought a shock collar and i really dont want my dog to wear it, how else can i teach him to stop barking?
Thanks Fish, weve been trying this. he mostly barks when he wants to play with the other dog.

    • ANSWER:
Clearly your dog is best suited as an 'only' dog and feels his position as the #1 dog in the house is threatened by the arrival of the new one. Try paying more attention to him for a while and always make sure that if you are doing something with both dogs (like feeding) make sure you give the older dog his food first Same for treats. That way you will be reinforcing the "alpha dog" position. That might help.

can people please stop being IDIOTS!! and give me sensible answers.

    • ANSWER:
Dogs bark because they mistakenly think they have to defend the home against possible attack. It is quite normal but unaceptable behaviour which needs to be trained out of them by positive reinforcment.

So the question becomes how do we do it. lol

Well actually its realy quite simple.

Firstly get some turkey meat, I recomend one of them turkey rolls. Take off the fat and roast it then cut it into one cm cubes and put say 30 or 40 cubes in a plastic bag. the rest in the freezer or fridge.

Now, reconditioning, its going to take time and patience.

A dogs hearing is around four times more sensitive than a humans so shouting is pointless. Keep a very calm demena and talk quietly as if to a four yearold child in normal voice not baby talk.

The word NO means nothing to a dog. logically speaking NO 'What'. So the command must be 'Quiet' phonicaly its unique and it works well.

Now your ready for training, if the dog barks when somone knocks on the door place yourself between the dog and the door, gain its attention and look straight into its eyes and point one finger at it, then say in a normal but firm voice 'quiet' - do not growl it or shout it.

You may have say it several times before the dog stops barking. As soon as it stops barking give it a piece of turkey and lots of praise with a gentle approving voice and a stroke. If it starts barking again, return your hand to the command position and make eye contact and then say firmly in a normal voice 'quiet' again.

Repeat the above as often as necessary until all that it takes to shut him up is a gentle 'quiet' from you in any situation.

When the dog becomes conditioned not to bark reduce the treats to every second time and then third and fourth time until you are only using voice commands.
      Regards Steve

  31. QUESTION:
Are there any effective ways to permanently stop a dog from barking?

    • ANSWER:
      Not really.
Barking is instinctive for them. It's their "job" to protect the family by, at least, allerting them to danger.

      BUT!
For some dogs, it almost becomes a syndrome. A neurosis, if you will.
Non-stop barking is a sign of boredom, lack of exersize, natural/inbred nervousness. Some dogs just don't know any better. They haven't been trained what to do, so they over react.
Plus, it's fun for dogs to run barking at every little thing. If you yell and chase them, that's all the more fun. They think you are barking with them. They have no idea that you're upset.

First thing to try is more exersize. Tired dogs are quiet dogs.

Try only paying attention to her when she's quiet. At random times in the day WHEN SHE'S QUIET say "good (use the dog's name) no barking!". Even if you have to wait until she's eating or sleeping. Catch her being quiet and praise her.

      Ignore barking.
      Leave the room if possible.

Put 12 pennies (or pebbles) in a soda can and tape the lid shut. When she starts up. Shake the can sharply. It will startle her momentarily- AS SOON AS SHE SHUTS UP, PRAISE HER!!! If she ignores the can, toss it in her direction. Don't pelt her with it. You don't want to hurt her. It will seem like a "bomb" has gone off next to her and she will (hopefully) quit for a second.

Their are collars you can try. Some squirt a smell dogs don't like. Others shock them with electricity. Some have remote controls, others just let the dog bark 2-3 times before it zaps them.
Make no mistake. "Tough nuts" won't quit without painful aversion therapy.

There is a surgery. Cutting the vocal cords will make her quieter, but she will still bark. It will sound like coughing. It's dangerous, expensive, and difficult to find a vet that will do it.

Some breeds are barkers. Jack Russels and Rat Terriers. Pomeranians. Dachunds. Just to name a few. If you have one of these, seek professional help. You need a trainer.

I am going to build one that will work uo to two city blocks away if I have to. In the mean time I have found a safer way to stop it. I got the phone number of party a block away and every time the dog barks (mostly)12am on) - I call ---the dog then stops barking!!!!TRY IT.

  33. QUESTION:
How do I stop my dog barking - Miniature Pinscher?
I have a 2 yr old miniature pinscher that we adopted from a shelter. He showed signs of neglect when we got him. Our trouble now is that he barks way too much. We have a pasture behind our home with 2 horses in it and he constantly barks when they are anywhere near our fence. He will also bark at any one who enters the pasture and the dogs that run n the pasture. He seems unwilling to stop barking when we give him the command. Also when he is barking he refuses to come when he is called, any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
I also have a miniture pinscher who looks like she was going to be quite the barker. What we did was got a soda can and put about pennies in it and duct tapped the top. Anytime she barked we would shake the can and she would stop instantly. I know they say you can clap to stop behavior but it honestly didn't even phase her. Now if she starts and even sees the can she will stop. I am not sure if it will work for your dog as mine is a puppy but its worth a try. Good Luck!

  34. QUESTION:
How to make your dog stop barking?
Well my dog is five years old and in the past few years she's been barking way too much. She's a bigger dog with a lower and more powerful bark too so it's extra loud. I know it isn't easy to train a dog if they are used to doing something...Is there any way to make her stop barking?

    • ANSWER:
      hi,

An instinctive canine behavior, a bark now and then reminds you that your dog is still very much a dog. However, constant barking can be disruptive, if not downright nerve-racking. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent or curb problem barking.

how can i stop my dogs from barking so much?
we just moved into our new house and our neighbors are dick heads, they both have big dogs (on both sides of us) and my two small dogs bark at them when they see them, the neighbors are insisting that our dogs start the barking which is dumb because all dogs bark, but we cant get evicted so i was wondering if you guys know of ANY WAYS to get our dogs to stop barking or bark less? i have one 6yr old jack russel and a 1yr old chihuahua/yorkie mix!
lmao i would love to stick one on my neighbors if i could!

where can i get the collars for the cheapest price?
the dogs are out door dogs!!! i need something that would stop them from barking outdoors not in the house!

    • ANSWER:
You can get a device called a "barker breaker". It emits a sound that dogs don't like when the bark. It will work on your dog AND your neighbors too!
A google search shows there are lots of stores that sell it. I had one for my neighbor's little yapper and it worked great. The only problem is the one I bought was not waterproof and it died when it got wet. I believe there is a waterproof model, but it's a bit expensive if I remember correctly.

  36. QUESTION:
Is there a method or a product that actually WORKS to get a dog to stop barking?
Our dogs are 5 & 8 years old now. At our old house they stayed in the garage at night & the back yard during the day. They did bark a bit, but I was at home all the time so I could keep them down...

Now, we just bought a house & there is no garage & the fence needs repairs. So, they're outside in a decent size pen 24/7. One dog barks way more than the other so we got him one of those ZAP collars, it doesn't work.

I got a letter from my city yesterday that my dog barking is creating a disturbance in the neighbourhood... We need to fix this fast, or find a new home for the dogs - we don't want to give them up!!

Anything work for you? I can't keep wasting 0 to keep trying different products... Thanks =)

If you are using an electric collar that must be manually activated, you cannot make accurate corrections, and the dogs will not learn to stop barking.

If you have a collar that activates when the dog barks, the dog still needs to learn what the correction means, it may take a while. A bark collar will work only if used properly. It must be VERY snug, high on the dogs neck, as close to the jaw as possible without strangling the dog.

You should experiment with the correction level to make sure that the correction is high enough to discourage the dog from barking.

I use a tri-tronics model, and it is very effective. My dogs know when it is on, and they do not bark.

      There are other alternatives:

      1) There are devices that you can put up that emits an ultrasonic sound (that only dogs can hear) when the dogs bark. The sound is supposed to distract them and change the behavior. Check out Bill Boatman's in Ohio.

      2) You could put them in crates in your basement during the day while your are gone. They may still bark, but they won't be as easily heard, and eventually they will calm down in their crates, and feel more secure. Part of their barking is insecurity, plus, it is also nice to have your pets in the house.

Best of luck. I hope you find an effective method so that you can keep your dogs.

  37. QUESTION:
Effective ways to stop dog growling and barking?
We adopted a small older (5-8 y/o) Chihuahua mix rescue a few months ago. She's the sweetest little thing to US, but doesn't like some men and some dogs (usually bigger than her; she's been OK with some smaller dogs). She growls, barks, jumps up, and pulls when she sees a dog or man she doesn't like. I've posted about her before; I think the problem is she wasn't properly socialized.

She is NOT aggressive in the sense that she doesn't bite. Just the growling and barking.

We had her on a harness when we noticed this behavior. I've since switched her to a pinch collar (a "Small" - I had to take out 3 links). Since she's smaller (14 lbs), I give her a little tug and say "no" when she growls or barks, but this hasn't helped. She actually jumps still, and I don't think she's phased by the pinch at all (she's very good with it when I use it to help her learn to "heel").

I've gone through dog obedience training in the past, so I know the basics at least, and am training her at home on other things. I just haven't had to train a dog who's had these problems.. (Note: In the future I will take her to obedience classes to socialize her more, but that's not an option at the moment.)

Now what? I've seen collars that sense when the dog is going to bark and then emit a lemon-scented spray to stop it... or do I go the shock collar route? I'm usually against the latter, since I think it can be cruel. I don't want to traumatize her...

I would appreciate the responses of EXPERIENCED people who have dealt with a similar problem with their dogs... I don't need anyone telling me I'm cruel or anything. Thanks. :)

    • ANSWER:
Don't know why you would think anyone would call you cruel...you are trying to do the best you can for a dog you rescued...way to go! First, I really dislike prong collars..have you tried a martingale or slip lead? When she does this unwanted behavior...can you see an warning signs...does her back stripe, ears go forward, does she feel tense? Can you tell if the dog or human is making eye contact or otherwise making your dog feel threatened? Using a slip lead high on the neck the way they do at the dog shows, you can try the change direction maneuver if you notice the warning signs. Also, I have had success with teaching my dog to bark on command so that I could teach him the quiet command. If you can get the other people to cooperate, try doing a "meet and greet". Try to keep your dog calm and approach the offending party...stop at about 3 feet away and have your dog sit and ignore. Just briefly chat with the person. If you tell them you are in training, you will be amazed how helpful they will be. I think you have the right idea, you need to do this as a training exercise every day! One last word...about ecollar...I have used this for the last 8 monhs with my pit hound mix and I love it. It is not cruel or painful..like anything else it needs to be learned and used properly. Anyway, there are a lot of training methods out there, not every one is the right one for every dog! I hope my suggestions were helpful, good luck.

How do u stop your dogs from barking at strangers and/or other dogs during your walks?
How do u stop your dogs from barking at strangers and/or other dogs during your walks?
I've tried giving the dogs treats whenever stranger/other dogs approach our way but my dog doesn't care about treats. She seems to be scared and wants to bark, growl at them.

    • ANSWER:
When your dog barks or growls during walks, snap his lead and say "No" firmly (don't yell). Have the collar up high on his neck and snap the lead, redirecting him when he starts growling or barking. If you can watch your dog and see the signs before he growls or barks, it's even better. This redirection lets him know you're in control. If you do this everytime, he'll learn. It'll take about a week of walking and correcting for him to get the message. Do not give him treats or rub him and give affection when he growls or barks. You're telling him this is good behavior when you do that. Good Luck!

  42. QUESTION:
Is there a way you can stop your dogs from running/barking when the doorbell rings?
It's really annoying because when a group of people come in, we have to hold the dogs back because they will run out.
My dogs are 5 and 8. So is it too late to train?

    • ANSWER:
Training: I would respectfully suggest you read a couple of books and watch some videos on raising and training dogs. Also, I recommend two TV shows, "The Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Millan on the National Geographic Channel, and "It's Me or the Dog," with Victoria Stillwell, on Animal Planet. Both programs are very instructive and often deal with the issues you raise here. Good luck!

  43. QUESTION:
How can I stop my dogs from barking so much?
I have a dachshund and a chihuahua and any time someone comes over they bark for about 10 minutes. Is there a way to stop this?

    • ANSWER:
As I've been trying to convey to everyone that is asking this question...a method that worked for me really well, with no hitting or screaming or abuse of any kind.
Simply take an empty soda can, put some small stones or pennies inside, and seal it with duct tape You may want to make one of these for each room in your home, because it's a good correction for many bad habits, including chewing, etc.
Anyway, let your dog bark when someone knocks or first comes in...it is trying to alert you to them, and it's called "protective barking". Then, after a few barks, immediately, in a firm voice, tell them "No! Stop it!" and give the can a few shakes. The unusual noise startles them, and they usually stop for a bit, anyway. Then, when they start again, repeat the same procedure. If after a time they bark again, it's time to drop the can beside you, (do not throw it!), and give the same command. The noise is louder and startles them again.
I know this works because our little Shih Tzu was a real 'yapper' and barked at anything and everything. (Sometimes the smaller the dog the more they bark out of fear). So now, all I need to do is say "I'm gonna get my can!" and she looks to where the one remaining one is and shuts up right away.

Don't spray water or anything else in your dogs face when barking. That may only make him fearful of water and of anything in your hand. You don't want a fearful dog, just a calm and peaceful dog that you can control with words and not action.

Good luck, I hope this helps you as well as it did me.

  44. QUESTION:
How do I get my dog to stop barking at other dogs?
My chihuahua loves humans but HATES other dogs. (we got him from a shelter). He growls and barks and tries to bite them.

We're getting ready to move into a high-rise apartment complex that involves a lot of long elevator rides with other dogs, and I'm afraid he'll start snarling and barking at them all the way down.

How can I get him to be nice and comfortable around his own kind before our big move in two months?

    Thanks so much!

    • ANSWER:
I would consistantly give the dog a verbal and physical correction everytime the behaivor starts. When the dog is quiet while in the presence of other dogs, the behavior you are trying to encourage, its time time to give lots of praise. Most dogs only get away with what the owners allow them to get away with.

  46. QUESTION:
Is there a way to get my dog to stop barking?
I have a 6 month old chihuahua. She constantly barks, sometimes at nothing. Whenever she sees another person or dog, she barks and barks, even if the dog is way bigger than her. Her barking is really annoying and often gives me headaches. I have tried the command "enough" many times and it doesn't seem to be helping much, if at all. I have praised her when she stopped the barking. Is there something I am doing wrong? Does anyone have any ideas on how to get her to stop?

Electronic collar. The best is made by Tri Tronics. They call it the Bark Limiter XS.
I tried a citronella collar. It was useless.

  47. QUESTION:
What's the best way to get noisy, barking dogs to stop barking?
I live in a Granny flat on the bottom section of a house and the Owners - a couple in their twenties - live upstairs with their Border Collie dog - about 1 year old as well as a younger Staffy. There are no other problems living here - the owners are really nice and I normally like animals, however the dogs are getting a bit too noisy.

The spend their time either in the backyard or upstairs. The problem is, that they seem to bark quite often - at birds, the dog next door and whenever a dog goes past on the footpath.

It's worse when they see a dog go past when they're upstairs as they run onto the verandah and go nuts! Barking really loudly and running all over the verandah - which sounds loud from my granny flat as it's right underneath.

So my question is - how do I explain to the Owners nicely that their dogs' barking is a nuisance without getting their noses out of joint? As the owners just let the dogs bark - only occasionally giving them a slight reprimand in a gentle voice - which of course the dogs just ignore!

I should mention that the dog's behaviour is pretty good besides the barking (apart from the Staffy jumping up and dragging your washing off the line when she's bored!)

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    • ANSWER:
That's so annoying. I would call the police and make a sound ordinance complaint. Don't give your name, so your neighbors won't know who did it.

Its either that or get a bb gun. GL

  49. QUESTION:
Easy ways to stop your dog barking at night? HELP!!!!!!!?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

To start, you can remove any stimulus from the dogs environment.

      * Block your dog's access to doors and windows while he is indoors so he cannot see outside.
      * Play music or the TV to mask noises that trigger barking.
      * Change your doorbell ring so as to disassociate him from the ring he is used to accompanying with barking.
      * Call him inside from the yard at times he is prone to barking, such as when school lets out and kids are noisily making their way home.

  50. QUESTION:
how to get my dogs to stop barking?
My dogs do not bark when they are inside, but as soon as they go outside they constantly bark. I always watch them to see what they are barking at and i don't see anything but i know there's something causing them to bark.

I don't want to disturb my neighbors or have them call some animal police on me. I don't want them to be debark either i think that's the most cruel way of making a dog stop barking.

I want to know how to train my dogs to stop barking if that is possible, i don't want to rely on shock collars cause i'm afraid of it hurting them too much. I know better than to yell at them when they're barking, knowing that they think i'm barking along.

I don't want to use any physical contact on them like hitting them either. So how do you train a dog to stop barking, i know i have limited down since i don't rely on shocking or physical contact but is there any other way or must i rely on one of those two. This is for everyone's happiness including the dogs.

    • ANSWER:
I liked this advice, found at http://www.perfectpaws.com/bark.html

The first step in obtaining peace and quiet is to realize that lots of barking is caused by the dog being lonely, bored, frustrated or frightened. These are all situations that you can help to alleviate. A well-exercised, happy dog is more likely to sleep all day while you are not home. Spend time playing with, training and exercising your dog.

Obedience training is great mental exercise. Thinking is a tiring activity for dogs, as it is for humans. Most dogs really enjoy a rapid paced, exciting "game" of Come here, sit, heel, sit, heel, down, stay . . . come here for hugs, a massage, a celebration of praise and treats. Don't allow training to be a boring, tedious routine.

If your dog lives in the back yard most of the time, she probably needs "social exercise." She needs walks around the neighborhood, so she can investigate all the sounds and smells that tantalize her while she is in the yard. Bring her into the house when you are home. She needs to feel that she is part of your family. Having a large yard is not equal to having a well exercised dog. You may see your dog dashing madly around your yard, but he is not exercising. He is doing the doggy equivalent of pacing, fidgeting, or other human forms of nervous activity. Provide your dog with fun things with which to occupy himself, such as a digging pit or special chew toys.

Dogs are social animals. They need friends and companionship. Take your dog to the same dog park daily or weekly and let her make doggy friends. Dogs romping around and playing together tire rapidly and will sleep happily while recovering from the good, hardy play session.
