Barking Dog Restaurant
Dog strollers are created to provide security and ultimate comfort to your pets. Here are ten significant reasons why you should buy one.
#1. Perfect for frequent travelers.
If you are a pet owner and you’re always on the go, you can carry your pet with you wherever and whenever you go without any hassle and mess on your end.
#2. Ideal for your visit to the vet.
If your pet has ailments or broken legs, it is better that they are placed in a comfortable pet stroller to ensure that they will arrive in the clinic as safe as possible.
If your trusted vet is located 10 blocks away from your home, carrying your pet or letting them stroll around the streets will increase the possibility of accidents due to road hazards and fast raging cars.
#3. Provides maximum comfort.
Always remember that strolling around is a lot better if they are in a cool and convenient dog stroller where they can rest and take a nap when they are already tired.
#4. Easy to wash, maintain and store.
Having a pet stroller is a great choice if it’s from DogStrollers-4less. Made by the top manufacturers in the industry, our featured strollers here are of highest quality and durable materials. It also offers great mobility and easy maintenance that makes it easy to use, wash and store.
#5. Great to use as a cart.
Aside from providing your pet ultimate comfort, the dog strollers also have a huge compartment wherein you can easily place and carry your groceries and other stuffs while enjoying the day.
#6. Ideal for aging dogs and young puppies as well.
The pet strollers and pet carriers offer the same level of fun while strolling around with your dog even they are a bit older or still a little.
#7. The “Best Seat” for pets.
For some pet owners, bringing their dog to some festivals as well as family outings, picnics and other shows is a must. However, doing these things could also mean allowing them to mingle with crowds which will often cause them confusion and being exposed to possible danger. Give them the best seat during outdoor adventures and special events in a safe and comfortable pet stroller.
#8. Fast and less traumatic evacuation during emergencies.
Transport your pet to a safer place with ease during calamities such as tornado or hurricane and emergencies with the help of a pet stroller. With excellent functionality and great feature of a large basket, you can also carry your dog’s important things with you.
#9. More quality time with your pet.
Bring your pet wherever you go at any given time with a pet stroller. Whether you are out for lunch in a pet-friendly restaurant or need to do some errands, a pet stroller is the answer to avoid leaving your pet behind and spend some quality time with them while doing your chores.
#10. The first-rate travel.
Riding in an airplane, boat or car has never been easier with a pet stroller. Transporting your pet easily from one place to another without worries that they will get lose or run away in some dangerous places is also another great benefit that you can get from having one.

QUESTION:
What would the dog say in a letter to God?
Dear God,
How come people love to smell flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another? Where are their priorities? When we get to Heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it the same old story?
Excuse me, but why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not one named for a dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We dogs love a nice ride! I know every breed cannot have its own model, but it would be easy to rename the Chrysler Eagle the Chrysler Beagle!
If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?
Is it true that in Heaven, dining room tables have on-ramps?
If we come back as humans, is that good, or bad?
More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.
We dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent IDs, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?
Are there dogs on other planets or are we alone? I have been howling at the moon and stars for a long time, but all I ever hear back is the beagle across the street!
Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?
Is it true that dogs are not allowed in restaurants because we can't make up our minds what NOT to order? Or is it the carpets thing, again?
May I have my missing parts back, you know the ones I mean!

QUESTION:
Who know how to DRAW the sounds of an action?
design a graphic image/ symbol to represent the SOUND of the following topic:
(It maybe abstract, metaphoric or typographic)Car crash/ dripping tap/ barking dog/ conversation between George Bush and Osama Bin Laden/ sex/ an argument between mother and daughter/ a mobile phone/ a Chinese restaurant/ a mosquito/ a kindergarten/ an argument between girlfriend and boyfriend/ a supermarket/ hunger/ morning
This excerise is designed to help you push past LITERALISM and investigate other approaches to graphic solutions. REMEMBER, it is the SOUND of the topic you are expressing, NOT the IMAGE of the topic.
WHO UNDERSTAND HOW TO DO THIS EXCERISE?
I really have no idea how to DRAW the sounds of an action...-
ANSWER:
How interesting! Try comic book symbols? The onomatopoeic word for that sound? A symbol that represents that action - like sex could be a moving bed. I can hear the squeaking now.

QUESTION:
How do I convince my parents to get my dog back?
Well I'm 16 years old, turning 18 in a year and a half which is still far away. I don't live in an abusive household or anything. I get three square meals a day. BUT the reason I want to run away is because my parents gave my dog away after we had him for three years! They said I mistreated/tortured/traumatized it. I mean I'm not Michael Vick. My parents' pet peeves was that the dog whined and barked a lot. It was because I made whining noises at him, so he growled and whined back at me. Another thing that pissed them off was that I would blow in his ears and sometimes wrap him up in a blanket and watch him struggle out (was not trying to suffocate him) I know I'm not helping my case, but those were what i thought were the worst things i did. Plus, they said he was traumatized because whenever I got home from school, he would run away under my parents' bed. They believed he should instead greet me and jump at me instead. Anyway, later he would warm up to me and let me pet him and lick my hand. He usually barks when there are unknown visitors in the house. We had to give him away to the original owner who offered to find us a new owner for him. He found one, which was some girl who was a vet med student. I know it sounds like he's in a better place, but I just want him back. It's been a month since I've seen him, and every day I cry at night thinking about him (and I'm a GUY!) I can't wait until I am 18 because then the new owner would be attached to him, and if I asked for him back, I probably wouldn't get him back. I always thought I would keep him until the day he died, but I was wrong. The quote "you never know what you have until it's gone" holds very true for my situation. If I can't run away because the legal consequences are too severe, then what should I do? Should I wage psychological warfare on them? I'm pretty good with lying and manipulating, which is a devious behavior. I would consider myself an expert at malingering, but I don't think anything I could do right now would MAKE them bring him back. History-made myself appear as a suicidal individual and I got to skip 2-3 weeks of school due to a "medical ailment", skipped school for a day by acting like I was insane (pretended to be schizophrenic and screamed there were demons around me and they bought it), When I went to a restaurant, I left and told my parents I wouldn't come home with them until they registered me for a 24 fitness pass, so i evaded them until they relented to my demands. Also remembered putting a knife to my wrist, to get another thing, but I don't remember what that was. I could describe myself as a sociopath, but I don't resort to violence. Maybe even a control freak. I guess I lack remorse or empathy towards others because I dont feel sorry for manipulating my parents although I occasionally feel guilty. I have been to a mental institution because of suicidal ideation (although I faked it) and I thought everyone there was legitimately insane. i.e. stitches where they cut themselves. I don't think I can pull that suicidal/insanity sh!t anymore because they've caught on, so the next best thing is for me to leave a run away note and leave, but I need a plan for that. I just feel as though something in my life is missing. My parents said I have to be more "RESPONSIBLE" and respectful, but that's a grey area. How can I show that ASAP? Or do I really have to do something DRASTIC. I've been to plenty of psychologists, and they've all quit on me because I talk to them normally and respectfully so it looks like my parents are fabricating some crazy story. I act normal in public although I'm shy and don't talk much, but when I get home it's like I have a personality change. My parents say I'man angel at school, but the devil at home, although in other households I think it's the other way around. My parents are more than capable of financially supporting the dog. Also I live in Katy, TX, but my dog moved to somewhere in Dallas. Well, that's my situation. I know that the law is not on my side, and I have no idea if the new owner will return my dog back. Well that's my situation. I guess most of you will say I don't deserve my dog back or think I'm crazy, but I'm just glad I vented my frustrations.-
ANSWER:
yes you were abusing the dog.
licking your hand was out of fear and submission not love.

QUESTION:
Please help! My dog has severe separation anxiety!?
My dog is the most well behaved little guy in the world .... except if I leave him alone in a public area. If he is at home alone he seems fine but one time I tied him up nearby while I ate in a restaurant and he could not stop howling and barking and basically screaming the entire time until I came back. In addition, he was trembling non-stop when I went back to see him, like he had been terrified out of his mind. He generally just loses his mind when I'm not around, except when he's at home. He's a half pomeranian and tibetan spaniel mix, and he's about 11months old. I want my dog to be calm when I am away from him in public areas, any advice is appreciated!!
a number of you have grown concerned that my dog was tied up somewhere in the middle of nowhere. just to reassure you, he was tied just that one time outside of the restaurant and I was watching him through the window the entire time. I would never leave my dog with the possibility of being stolen.-
ANSWER:
He's afraid you won't come back. You need to train him to tolerate being left alone. First of all, take him out daily. If it's a regular thing he'll get used to it faster. Bring him out hungry (skip his breakfast if need be) and bring something he really likes to eat. Kong toys are great - you fill it with cheese whiz or peanut butter and he'll go nuts trying to lick the stuff out.
Tie him up at a tree or something, and give him the kong. Then back away. Hang out where he can still see you. Then walk up and take away the kong and untie him. Find somewhere else, tie him back up, and give the Kong back to him. Again, walk away but stay within sight, and come back and untie him. Do not push him past his comfort level. Don't walk away so far that he starts to get nervous.
Do this three or four times each day (it sounds like a lot, but seriously all this could be done in ten or fifteen minutes a day).
Every day you'll notice that he is comfortable with you walking further and further away. He'll be disappointed when you come back because he knows he will lose his kong until you go away again.
Keep working on it until eventually he can chew happily on that Kong for extended periods of time while you hide behind a tree.
Until you have dealt with this issue and fixed it, do not leave him alone outside stores. One traumatic incident will undo all your hard work. Just set a goal of being able to leave him alone outside of a store or restaurant, and practice every day.
Until that day comes, it is kinder to leave him at home where he is comfortable.

QUESTION:
Are there guidelines to what is considered a service dog?
I've heard of service dogs for the blind, the deaf, and those with seizures. I've noticed that they are VERY well behaved and obviously well trained.I was just wondering - is there truly a "service dog" for social anxiety and panic attacks or is that just an excuse to carry the silly little thing in your purse?
I just went to restaurant and some lady was carrying one in a baby carrier on her chest. It was barking and coughing and sneezing and the people at the restaurant tried to tell us it was a "service animal" for social anxiety and panic attacks.
I thought service animals were for life threatening situations. I have panic attacks and I KNOW when I'm going to have one.-
ANSWER:
There is a lot of confusion over emotional support animals and service animals. Many people mistakenly claim as a service animal one that is really an emotional support animal because they don't know any better. There is lots of misinformation out there on this. And some people simply want to take their pets where pets aren't generally allowed, so they claim that pet as a service animal to get around "no pet" policies. The U.S. Department of Justice issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking last year that would tighten up the definitions of what a service animal is. They have issued a statement this month that the change in definition is expected to go through before the end of this year. Hopefully this will end some of the confusion.
Businesses are permitted to ask two questions:
1. Is this a service animal required because of disability?
2. What tasks has the animal been trained to perform to mitigate this disability?A member of the public cannot ask these questions, but a representative of the business being visited can. And that business can deny access to the animal if the person does not give a reasonable answer. An animal that is out of control, that causes a fundamental alteration of the business, or that constitutes a direct threat can also be denied access.
In the case of an animal coughing and sneezing at chest level where it would be flinging contamination on food could probably be considered a direct threat to safety because of food contamination. A service dog on the ground, not in contact with food would not generally be a direct threat.
Now about these dogs that "alert" to panic attacks. Wonder what is really happening? In at least nine cases out of ten that I have encountered, the dog isn't predicting anything. He's having a stress reaction to his owner's melt down. When dogs become stressed, most will offer appeasement displays which are interpreted by the owners as affection. They don't recognize it's really their dog displaying stress in his or her own way. They mistake this for an "alert."
Any pet dog without training is going to tend to respond when his owner is distressed. Such is the nature of dogs. Are there real tasks for psychiatric service dogs? Sure. Things like entering a room, turning on lights and executing a search for someone with PTSD, for example. http://www.servicedogcentral.org/content/node/77
The other issue of course is that most people with a diagnosed mental illness are not disabled by that illness, any more than people with a vision impairment are automatically blind. Whether mental illness or vision impairment, it is the severity of the impairment (not the diagnosis) which determines whether a person is disabled.
Check out this case recently decided by a judge:
http://www.news-leader.com/article/2009910230358The judge's ruling is even more illuminating:

QUESTION:
Why is my dog ignoring commands and seeming to forget them abruptly?
I was told that at 7 months my dog would start being a little ornery and stubborn like she was as a little puppy, I thought this was baloney but it happened overnight; I taught her a Focus command a month or so ago called 'Look', so when she starts barking I can grab her attention. I went out to an outside-portion restaurant with her and she acted like she didn't know anything at all! She's been to the restaurant around 3 or 4 times before, it isn't like the place is totally new. All the past times I was there she was perfectly fine and didn't growl or bark at all, now she just starts going Cujo out of the blue. And when I tap on her rear to get her to sit, she'll lay down and start whining and squeaking like I'm hurting her. It's common sense that if she doesn't have a good Sit, Down, and Focus command that I shouldn't put her in situations where there are her triggers walking around, but she used to have a great Sit and all- this is real sudden. Is it just her adolescence? And any tips on controlling barking and lunging on the leash would be good. I try walking the other way but she turns around constantly to bark and whine.
-
ANSWER:
at that young age, you need to reinforce the command with a correction if she doesn't comply - nothing is 100% with a puppy. you should continue training a few days a week.

QUESTION:
overprotective dog problem! please help!?
i recently adopted a young, male, dachshund mix from my local pound. he's extremely sweet and well mannered. except with certain people. when he met my family for the first time, he was fine. he loved them. except for my brother, but my brother did nothing to him! when he met my neighbors and their kids for the first time, he loved them. he was the sweetest dog.
however, about three days after i brought Davy home, we went to a drive in restaurant. when the carhop came to my window, he went ballistic. he was barking, and growling and lunging at her.
please tell me what to do about this overprotective behavior, without hiring a trainer!-
ANSWER:
Actually that sounds like typical Dachshund behavior. My dachshund does that, but he's not aggressive toward the people; he's just like. NEW PERSON AHHHHH! He has no idea what to do so I make him stop, and once he sees that I'm ok with the person he is too. However, you should immediately correct the dog with an AH AH and a sharp poke every time to get him to stop. He should get the idea, but being a dachshund mix he will probably be stubborn about it. It's all about setting your boundaries with the dog. You make the rules, and you need to enforce them.

QUESTION:
My dog is agressive with strangers. How to train him?
Hello!
I have a 1.5 yr old Lhassa Apso mixed with Tibetan Terrier. He has always been agressive with 'strangers' ( my friends..etc, he wasnt when he was a pup) who come into the house. Also if a stranger goes out into the garden ( where he stays most of the time) he comes and 'pretend' bites their feet. He doesnt Bite them but more like pinches , not even pinching its more like touching their feet/ankles with his teeth. Sometimes if i tell him to stop barking ( i say Quiet , firmly but without raising my voice ) he growls at me !
We also have a Lab. My little one tries to show him he is the dominant one all the time . But the Lab just ignores hime and i have been told that its good , because this means that the Lab is actually the dominant one, instead of engaging in a fight .
When i go to a restaurant with him and he sit below the table. after a while he starts to growl at waiters who come by.
But when we are in the street he is fine and doesnt growl at anyone or show any agression.
If i understand from what ive read on the net uptil now. he is showing territorial agression. but i dont know how to train him so it wont happen so much anymore.
But why does he sometimes show agression towards me???!
I give him food. i was told by someone to take his food away from him when he is eating . make him sit . and then give it again so he understands im the 'boss'. And when i do that hes fine, he doesnt show ANY signg agression .
My grandparents are coming soon from france and i d really like to have some useful tips on how to train him and how i should react, so that they can all live in peace and harmony.hehe . problem though is they dont really appreciate animals like i do.
Have i been too kind with him? Have i kept him too close to me ? is it in his nature? is he scared of strangers???
PLease Help me and my little Gompo(dog) he's a very cute , sweet and an intelligent dog.
Thankyou in advance
p.s the only being he listens to is my cat . when he wants to play with her and she gets tired of him , she gives him a few paw wacks and he turns around and leaves her alone for good. he has never growled at her or barked at her.
PP.S ABOVE AVERAGE. INSTeaD OF INSULTING THE DOG AND ME GIVE ME help I THOUGH THAT THIS IS WHAT THE SITE WAS FOR. i live in nepal and dont have access to good dog trainers orand books!-

QUESTION:
My dog hates being left in the car. How can I calm him?
I have a medium sized dog. He hates being left behind at home but is never a problem if we do. However, if we are away on a trip and leave him in the car while we shop or are in a restaurant he gets really upset with a distraught look in his eyes. He pushes against the glass facially pleading for our return. He never settles, barking a fair bit and obviously worrying if we'll ever return. As soon as the car is moving he settles and usually sleeps. I'm looking for some suggestions as to how we can get him to relax and settle calmly while left in the car.We have had him since 12 weeks old. He is five years old, is a cross between a boxer and a bulldog, weighs about 55 lbs, never causes any damage or any problem. He is never left in any uncomfortable circumstances. There is no history of anything happening to him in the car. My concern is to calm him rather than solving any problems for ourselves. He's a real sweetheart in every other circumstance.
-
ANSWER:
The obvious answer would be, don't leave him in the car. But, if he must stay, pet him and love him just before you get out, then leave him a chew-toy, you know, one of things they chew on untill it's gone? The kind they can eat. My dogs love those, and it keeps them calm and distracted during various things they don't like. And honestly, I wouldn't really worry about him. All dogs hate to see their owners go, and they get over it when they get back. It's okay. But I agree with bluebonnetgranny, it's not really good to leave dogs in the car.

QUESTION:
Should I be upset at my boyfriend, his dog, or my being ridiculous?
My boyfriend is so close to his dog. He talks about him all the time, sleeps with him, naps with him, his main hobby is playing with the dog taking him to the park etc. We cant leave him at home when he visits because he barks too much and I live in an apartment. I love the dog. He was very bad behaved when we first started dating and destroyed my shoes, would playfully bite, but he has gotten better about these things. The problem is I get so stressed out that the dog is there every second with my boyfriend and I. He has to sleep with us, sit by us on the sofa, sit by us as we eat, we cant play around without him jumping on us, we eat at restaurants with dog patios and we go to dog parks. It sly becomes overwhelming especially since they have such a close bond that I do not have with the dog. I am in the relationship for my bf obviously, and not the dog. The baby talking and constant look at the dog doing this and that eventually becomes overwhelming. My boyfriend still treats me very well with lots of attention and love. I'm just not sure how to separate him and the dog. It doesn't appear healthy as the dog seems to have separation anxiety. Their relationship makes me feel like a third wheel sometimes that lives in "their" world. When we were having a serious conversation about this he wouldn't put the dog down because he was sleeping on top of him. It feel so hard for me to talk to him about the dog when the dog is laying on top of him. Am I being ridiculous to not want them to be so close that it makes me feel awkward around them? Sometimes a constant in life is nice, but something this constant that impacts every situation is a little tough to handle. When we sit down to watch tv at night, we are not always in the same mood, don't watch the same shows, don't always talk, don't always sit close to each other. But the constant is that the dog always has to sit on his or mine legs because the dog likes it, we pet him, and talk about how cute he is.... Every single time. How do I get past this?-
ANSWER:
you should find a new boyfriend ... not that i think your boyfriend is doing anything wrong, it is just glaringly obvious you two are not compatible ... and the sad reality is, relationships do not last ... your boyfriend most likely statistically speaking will have the dog and the comfort it brings him way longer than you ... you should move on and find a partner who has the same feelings about animals ... and don't be a doormat, if you don't want to talk about how cute the dog is or go to dog parks, speak up ... if you don't want to have a discussion with the dog lying on the guy, don't be a wimp, tell the dog to get down and you are having a discussion ... it seems like you have gone along for the ride but now it is not acceptable ... you get what you settle for in this life and if you want a partner different than you have now, go and find him ...

QUESTION:
My daughter thinks that she is a dog!?
My four year old is constantly pretening that she is a puppy. She barks and refuses to use her huge vocabulary! She crawls on the floor and she even tried to lap water out of a glass at a restaurant with my grandma! Is this just a phase? We have two dogs, but we've always had them.
I do go along with it most of the time. I even call her to supper saying "All puppy dogs report to the table!" And I know she is smart. She has been tested and she is a genius.-
ANSWER:
Perfectly normal behavior. what we try doing is setting limits when our son was a doggy. for example..............we told him that doggies were not allowed at the dinner table with us but we would love for Kentin to join us. Dogs are not allowed in stores and are not allowed in restuarants. they are not allowed in church or in school. Otherwise you may be a doggie as much as you want. We made sure that all kis snacks and drinks during his "doggie phase" were served at the table. This did tame the doggie behavior some. we also drew the line at such things as leashes and lapping water out of bowls. Your daugher will out grow it. We went through many imaginary friends too:)

QUESTION:
What dog is right for me?? =] Please help!!?
after my yorkie died last year, i REALLY want a new dog. But not another yorkie because i don't want to find myself comparing or accidentally calling it my other dog's name.
So can you think of a dog that you think is right?-My mom and I live in a fairly large apartment in the suburbs. It has a large space especially for dogs and there is a long road where i like to take jogs and i think it would be perfect for taking it for walks.
-i have had 3 dogs before so im pretty experienced. And no, i won't use any old stuff from my other dogs on a new dog that i will get [;
-When i leave for school and my mom leaves for work, my mom usually leaves the door open just incase i forget my keys or my purse gets stolen, and its much easier to get inside. We kind of live in the corner of the hallway and the door is sort of hidden, plus this town has a very low crime rate, so a burglary is unlikely. However, i am home alone a lot too so i would like a medium-smaller large sized dog: one that is difficult to steal in case someone DOES try to get in the house and one that barks at strangers but isn't bark-happy. Nothing TOO big though. A large dog won't be suited for an apartment.
-Im 14 almost 15
-i want a god that isn't too hyper but likes excersize.
-must be friendly and affectionate! Can't be mean/aggressive!
-Should be easy to train, and i will be spending time to train it.
-Minimal shedding would be great, but not necessary
-I love "beautiful" dogs. I mean, all dogs are beautiful, but idk how to explain it. I don't like labs or the look of pugs (even though my friend has a pug and its the sweetest thing ever) but i LOVE Australian shepherds and white fluffy dogs
-For some reason i want a white fluffy dog [= But i like a lot of other breeds too
-I am very good at training dogs, so that won't be a problem [= (Ever since my 1st dog i used to watch a lot of dog training shows and i ready many dog training books)
-I like the Japanese Spits, the Samoyed, the Japanese Akita, American Eskimo, and the Havanese, are any of these breeds right for me?
******I know this is long, but i would LOVE your opinion! if you dnt know how to help me, but you read this whole thing, can you star it so some of your contacts can see it? Thanks =]
p.s. I leave school at 7, then my mom sometimes leaves for work at different times. i come home from school around 2:30 so the dog will be by itself for some time. Some of you think this is a bad idea, but i dont think it is because the dog NEEDS to learn to handle being by itself without freaking out. I mean, if we always left it with someone, then one day my mom and i leave to go to a restaurant, it will spazz out! And obviously im going to take it for a walk every morning before school.thankss<33
p.s. by "door open" i mean unlocked...not litterally open haha [=-
ANSWER:
Siberians and/or Malamutes are NOT apartment dogs!!! I would also stay away from the Samoyeds and Aussies for an apartment because they are all working breeds. Also, the Nordics are VERY vocal and shed like crazy. Of all the features you listed, I think a Shiba Inu would be a perfect match. They are not very vocal, have short, dense coats, are weary of strangers, very aloof, and great little guard dogs. They also don't mind being alone, and are extrmemely clean dogs. They are one of the smaller members of the Japanese Spitz family, but don't have the yappiness of the Eskimos, etc.. And they look like Mini Akitas!
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Working in restaurants, what is the significance when cooks (mostly mexicans) bark like dogs?-
ANSWER:
I used to train cooks for the military. I would bet that a pretty girl walked into the facility. It was time for a line check so the guys could gawk at her. We didn't have a "bark" to let us know the health inspector came in, they always just slipped in. Besides if you are doing your job right, you don't need a warning that the health inspector is there.

QUESTION:
Dog chased us?
There is a lady my friend and I see every time we get ice cream at a restaurant in town. She owns an antique next to the ice cream place. The lady is crazier than a pet coon! I can't even explain her! She let her chiwowa off the leash, and it chased us all over the parking lot. He was barking like he was rabid. It was really embarrassing because we were screaming, and running in front of everyone. What should we do?-
ANSWER:
I know a woman that works at a little shop next to my restaurant that has a little dog that she had outside with her and she sits out there and talks to people as they come in. On my lunch break, in the summer and spring, I sit out there and have lunch and I see the dog get of his leash sometimes and he chases little kids. She isn't much more normal either. I've talked to her and she sometimes speaks in tongues. She is nuts! The dog is a little biter. I hope she has enough common sense to hold onto him.

QUESTION:
Have any of you sought behavioral modification training for your dog that has bitten someone? LONG?
First off, if your answer is to have him put down, that is not going to happen.Brief history: Dog was dumped here 2 years ago. Very fearful and scared. Took a couple of months to gain his trust. He had pellet gun wounds thanks to some neighbors that got mad he got in their trash before we adopted him. He had clumps of tics, lacerations and was a mess. We got him to vet and back to great health. He has been a wonderful dog, in fact, saved my life. He is a Lab mix. Other than liking to pull on his leash when he sees rabbits or squirrels and barking at delivery men, he has been a joy. Recently kids had been setting off fireworks and I have noticed he tucks his tail and trembles again. I also noticed his barking got worse after that.
My husband asked a police officer friend of his about the legality of them. He stopped by one day on duty to give us some info and my husband was out doing yard work and had our dog on his 40" tie out. Our dog (on his tie out) and friend approached each other and then as soon as my husband walked up and the guy went to pet him, he bit him on the forearm. Of course all was reported as he was on duty and had to go have it checked and it was the right thing to do. He was very nice about it when we called to check on him. He knew I was upset and asked how I was, so an amazing kind man. My vet and others have said that I should find a trainer that specializes in behavioral problems like aggression. I am sick over his friend getting bitten, sick over my beloved dog doing this and worried about getting him on the right track. He loves kids and they only people he does not bark at and seems to trust 100%. He also loves cats that are accustomed to dogs.At any rate, we start a course right away- private training sessions with a trainer that used dogs in the war and also trains police dogs. He is very confident with me learning a few things and working with my dog on the homework he gives me each week, we can solve this problem. I am willing to do whatever it takes to make sure my dog has whatever he needs to become better adjusted so he does not hurt anyone as I could not bear that or the thought of having to put him down. I won't go into details but this dog helped me walk when an illness struck, he helped with depression that came with it and is a member of the family. He is my constant companion and is gentle with my little dog and cat. He isn't around a lot of people as I have a health issue I am dealing with and husband works for a company w/ crazy hours responsibilities. So, I am sure we will probably work on better socialization, although he is good when we are out places. All of the drive-thru people at banks, restaurants know him by name and have treats for him. I assume I will be instructed by the trainer to muzzle him and have him around people more?
Have any of you have success with retraining a dog that has bitten someone? What did that training entail?
The trainer when I called him was very impressive- talked to me for almost half an hour and answered many questions. He obviously loves dogs and has almost 40 years experience and experience with dog that have bitten. When I called my vet's office, they said they have had tons of dogs that have bitten even them, and all, when worked with, have been rehabilitated. He said I would need to get some things like a choke chain but that he does not hurt the dogs- he uses praise not treats as a reward. As I understood it, this is the slip type chain not, the dreadful pronged type.
Any input if you have experience with this?
Again, if you don't like dogs or your first solution is to put him down, that is your opinion. I am wanting to hear from those that take the time/ energy and expense to care for their dogs and hopefully have some helpful info about what to expect at training and success stories. At this point, the best training I can find is the only way I know how to proceed. Thanks.
Bindi- I did go to www.iaabc.org. Only 2 behaviorists are listed near me. One does not even deal with dogs that bite and the other despite claiming she deals with behavior issues on the website link she posts there, then, actually says total opposite on her blog- that dogs that bite will just bite worse the next time, even after training. She uses a rating called Ian Dunbar's Bite Scale. That would make my dog an L3 ! She suggests "rehoming them" if you have kids, which I don't, but then does not say what if you don't. I bet she would say to put them down.
Now (after reading all answers) uncomfortable with my choice of trainer, he has said that he thinks I need to establish myself as the alpha male and he is going to train me. If only there were a way to have THE dog whisperer. I wonder how far he travels for those shows??? Seriously. 3 am can't sleep- 1st class in 12 hours. Dog lovers wish us luck. Still would love details of a success story.-
ANSWER:
Your dog sounds like a fearful dog and there's lots of things you can do to help him. I personally think the person he bit did everything wrong - you never, ever approach a fearful dog and you NEVER pet him - the dog has to be the one to initiate contact. The dog wasn't ready for that - especially if the guy loomed over him, made eye contact, and/or petted him on his head.If you feel comfortable with this trainer, go with him. But remember, this is your dog, if he ever wants you to do something you feel is wrong for your dog, don't do it. You need to be your dog's advocate.
I can recommend a few really excellent books for you to read. Patricia McConnell's "The Cautious Canine", "Control Unleashed" by Leslie McDevitt, "Getting in TTouch With your Dog" by Linda Tellington Jones, and "Get Connected With Your Dog" by Brenda Aloff.
A fearful dog shouldn't be muzzled - that'll add to his distress. What you do is not let people approach him if he's uncomfortable with it. Counter-conditioning works wonders with fearful dogs. You start feeding the dogs bite-size pieces of high value treats before they get over threshold, keep feeding treats until the person's passed by or feed if you're talking to someone. When the person's gone, the treats stop. The dog eventually makes the connection that people are a good thing. But it's important you don't let anyone approach him - he needs to make the decision to go up to someone new.

QUESTION:
What are some of the best kid-friendly restaurants for brunch and dinner in Seattle (Ballard/Greenlake area)?
We have a 19-month-old with one on the way, and we try to be considerate parents when we dine out, but like places that are accommodating to families with their high chairs, crayons, healthier kids menus, faster service, etc. We've been dining at Hale's Alehouse in Fremont/Ballard, Cafe Vios on Capitol HIll, Elysian in Tangletown, Luau in Tangletown (sit by the fish tank on the floor!), Barking Dog in Ballard, High-Life in Ballard etc. We just want some new ideas!
On the contrary, where have you had BAD experiences taking your kids--the places you recommend we avoid?
-
ANSWER:
Have you been to the Wedgewood Broiler? It's on 35th and about 80th, so kind of northeast of the Greenlake area, but not too far. 35th runs parallel to Lake City Way and down to the U-Dist. It crosses Ravenna or you could take 65th by Greenlake and hang a left onto 35th headed north. It's kind of a throw-back sort of place that is great for families with kids and it's not "fancy" food, but more old American cooking like you might have expected 20-30 years ago restaurants were like. It's a cool place with good offerings!I just recommended Salty's on Alki for brunch at their brunch buffet and I think they really do have the best brunch in Seattle (on Sundays)! They are on Alki in West Seattle and the food is fantastic and the views are amazing, especially around this time of year! I know it's not in the Ballard/Greenlake area, per se, but for great brunch, it's worth the trek!

QUESTION:
What do you think of the restaurant scene?
This is a restaurant scene in my novel The Occasions. Toby, the owner of the restaurant, is talking to Heffler, his imaginary friend.Toby interpreted everything as though each part was an ingredient for a new narcotic recipe. He had to leave the room and throw away various bags and boxes. Then, he dusted the cabinets and scrubbed the walls. An imaginary friend knocked on the door of his ear and reminded him of an inspection coming soon. The inspector was from the fire department and wore prep-styled clothes so he could impress the gay clientele and did not know Toby was heterosexual. Then again, the imaginary friend thought Toby was bisexual and kept mentioning so to Toby. However, Toby’s girlfriend was involved with another man at the moment, proving the legitimacy of what the imaginary friend surmised. According to various books on cinematography, action can be related to any number of causes. One cause could be too much thyme in the asparagus salad. He also heard the front door opening and laughter before the door closed. He figured the gang walked out, respecting Toby’s privacy during a discussion moment with his imaginary friend. The moment was now and the friend’s name was Heffler.
Heffler appeared from behind Toby’s ear and wore his typical gray and pink jumpsuit decorated with purple and yellow feathers. He wore a mustache on his wrist and sunglasses on his neck. His ears were covered with miniature brown paper bags and a pizza coupon was taped to his forehead.
Heffler said, “I wore my mesh to cover up your tracks. You were inconsiderate by not determining the numbers involved in the package.”
Toby replied, “But you did not smack me with the fly like the bargain indicated on the spool.”
Heffler screamed, “This is not the way to go about petting your tortilla poodle!! You have to use masking tape and infiltrate the Russian book-keeper!! He will show you all about the damn crockery unless you want to stuff your pores with all that garbage like you did when we went to your cousin’s house and he was trying to jam a wax doll up his rectum!! You should know better than to call up Asia during the time you type the number seven!! It can cause the Bulgarian Buttermilk Police to curdle your brain!! It only takes five minutes to rectify taboo symbolism, you unholy camel who possesses the knowledge of demonic toothpaste!! I shall make an exorcism come into your nostrils and bake your toxic herbal system out of your infrared spy catchers!! Take it from me when I say I cannot condone your usage of anchovy paste on mousetraps, especially when nothing but bagels get caught and they bark like beagles!! Maybe you can take a walk and fly close to the airplane like you suggested on page ninety two when you went to graduate school and typed a frenzy while the nurse gave you a ********!! She was just as imaginary as me but at least I come wearing cool clothes, you ++++ ++++!! You cannot even put together a potato pie full of money and that’s what counts if you want to be robbed!! You make this restaurant a freaking coin machine of your punks who cause you harm when they scream at you when you walk along back roads!! You need a brown crayon to wipe away the grocery tears you’ve collected on your ancient journey towards Cairo when the stock market crashed into your lawn!! Pretty soon – and I mean this in the most ugly form of pretty as I can muster up – you cannot go just by my words, regardless of the dog who humps your leg!! You have to lick a cat’s stomach and add Drano to the megaphone because the fingers string me along until I can no longer do string tricks but the camera person told me otherwise and I had to harass him because he was such a stickler for perfect grammarian mammary circumspection… now look what you’ve made me do!! I have made a French excuse for a very German problem!! Just as long as you bang your nose against the marshmallow wall, I cannot be held libel for any lawyer type of action you have against my embezzlement techniques!! Just puff on this magic cigarette until you feel like you will disappear and that should scare the **** out of you but I told you before not to regard the bugs unless the bugs come to you first and then you can run the mile and make a runner for a song lyric with a razor in your fingernail but as long as it is made of gum you are okay!! My Italian mother told me this information and I will pass more along to you because you have bad springs in your mattress and you’ve never said hello to my advances so I cannot condone your heterosexuality, especially since I am also heterosexual and there cannot be two of us!! Hence, such is why I am your imaginary friend, even though some sources would say I am real and you are suffering from opposite-delusion but then no drugs could cure it so the pharmacies have to gain their share. Okay, maybe I have lingered and malingered too far but it is only out of love!!

QUESTION:
What's the deal with Muslims hating dogs?
I heard a lot time ago that muslims didn't like dogs, but I never knew why. So yesterday I ordered food from a Lebanese restaurant and this muslim guy delivers it. I put my dog (a maltese) down so I can sign the credit card slip. My dog walks up to the delivery guy in the hallway and snips his shoe. Seriously, this muslim guy FREAKED OUT. I've never seen anything like this before in my life. It reminded me of those old cartoons where an elephant gets scared of a mouse. This guy jumped back and was in the corner, almost having an anxiety attack. I glanced up as I was signing the slip and said "don't worry, he's friendly." It's not like my dog was barking or attacking him or anything. He was just being friendly. When I looked up a second time this guy was shoving my dog away with his foot and almost kicking him. I was pretty upset. What a freak. What's the deal with muslims and dogs? Why are they so weird? And they wonder why they'll never fit in here. wow.-
ANSWER:
Muslims believe dogs are "unclean," and if one licks them they have to undergo a long repurification ritual.I think it has something to do with how dogs will eat their own vomit and lick their own private areas.

QUESTION:
Is it okay for my son to call the man "ugly" when?
He is a Zombie? His dad is watching some 60's zombie movie and my son the whole movies is saying "ugy man"... He is 2 1/2, he doesnt call other non-Zombie people ugly (I would teach him different) But the zombie is covered in blood and eating someones intestins and well he is pretty ugly to be honest, Is that a good exception to call him ugly?BQ How old were your kids when they "freely" started expressing their oppion of others?
My son tell tons of women in the store they are "perdy"
We were at a restaurant and he turns to this elderly man and goes "OOOLLD man" ( it was honestly halarious if you'd seen his face) But i kept a straight face and told him was not nice.
He calls barking dogs "crazy doggies"-
ANSWER:
How dare your son call the bloody zombie ugly! Seriously, it is normal...and often embarrassing. My daughter has always been very empathetic...and somehow known how to be polite. The worst she has ever said was why does that man have long hair. But, I know I am in for it once my son begins talking more. He is much louder...and dramatic in that way.

QUESTION:
Is this a good start to a story *10 points*?
"Stop it!" she screamed. She threw her napkin to the floor as her dark brown eyes filled with tears. At this moment, it finally hit her what people meant when they said their heart was broken. "You've done it again, Jared." she thought to herself. She never thought he would after last time, but he had just proven her wrong again. "Allie, sit down. Let's talk about this!" he said as his eyes flickered nervously around the restaurant that had once been full of the clinking of silverware against plates and laughter, but was now filled with dead silence and confused stares. Tears streamed down her face as she ran out of the restaurant she now considered the red-walled prison.Outside, she gratefully gulped in the cold, evening air as her thoughts raced. Moths chased each other around the lamps that cast a low, yellow shadow on her. Jared calmly walked out, holding her zebra-striped coat in his right hand. Wordlessly, he put it around her shoulders and looked at the ground. "I didn't expect you to take it this way." he murmured, shuffling his feet. She laughed at this misplaced remark. "How was I supposed to take it? Laugh and say it was perfectly okay that you were leaving me for some slut again?" "That's not fair, Allie. I never meant to hurt you." "Yeah, I'm sure you didn't. I'm going home." she said. "Okay, let's go." he said as he jingled the keys to his truck in his pocket and slowly withdrew them. "Not with you!" she spat, "I'm walking." As she walked in the direction of her house, his pleas of "Come back, let's talk about this!" and "This is ridiculous. Please stop." faded into the wind as the distance between them grew. "That's a dinner to remember!" she laughed to herself as the moon grew higher in the sky, and the stars began to overcome the clouds.
Before she had full comprehension of where she was going, she found herself at Skyler's house. With a deep sigh, she knocked on his door. She heard Wheel of Fortune blaring on the TV, his dog, Scooby, barking, and a "Hold on a sec!" followed by footsteps and the door opened. His tired eyes suddenly came alive as the feelings flooded in his face; love, sadness, anger, and pain. She looked him up and down: Same massive height, tanned skin, toned arms, black hair, and brown eyes. "What are you doing here?" he finally said. "Is that a way to greet the woman you've claimed to love for 3 years?" The mascara stains had moved to her cheeks now. "Come in here before you catch cold." she entered his house, and vaguely heard the door click shut. "It's just the same as I remember; same blue walls, same kitchen tile, and the same goddamn dog. You haven't changed a bit!" she said as she shrugged her coat off and let it fall to the floor. Sighing, he picked it up and threw it on the table. "Why of all places did you pick here to come? You swore you'd never come back last time you left." "I made a mistake." she said. "I wanna make this right!" With no further warning, she leaped into his arms, throwing her arms around his neck, and pressed her lips hungrily against his. Every part of his body ached for her. He'd dreamed of holding her ever since the night she walked out on him, but it wasn't supposed to be like this. He pulled away from her, and her eyes looked sadly into his as she yelled, "What's the matter? I love you. Aren't I still the one you want, or am I just a good f*** who you decided to throw aside, just like Jared did?" The icy words speared his heart but recognition flooded his face. "So that's why you're here. Jared left again." Jared has always been the popular jock that had come close to f***ing every girl in high school Sophomore year and every year after that. Skyler had also played football, but was more serious about books than girls. Allie had been the new girl at high school, and Skyler found himself falling in love with her very quickly. They just started out as friends, but soon it turned into a love triangle: Skyler loved Allie, Allie loved Jared, and Jared loved football. Skyler was always the safe guy who Allie could turn to when Jared broke her heart, but she always accepted the half-hearted apologies and returned to Jared. "No, I love you!" she insisted with her bottom lip trembling and tears flooding her eyes again. With a sigh, he said "We both know that's a lie. I've always cared about you, but I know those feelings have never been returned." With that she burst into tears and slid to the ground. Scooby ran up to her from his spot in the laundry room and lovingly licked the tears from her face. This produced a small smile, but didn't stop the tears. "Why am I never good enough?"
-
ANSWER:
Just some possible changes 'She never thought he would after last time' makes sense but it doesn't really flow. : outside her thoughts raced (add a simile here?) ... : "Okay let's go" he sighed... "Come in here before you catch cold " I'm sure it's just a typo but check anyway ....Other than those it is a very good beginning. I want to know what happens next!

QUESTION:
Did I actually meditate -- or did something else happen to me? Please read on, this is important?
I woke up early this morning but didn't want to get out of bed just yet, so I just laid flat on my back, closed my eyes and started thinking about a trip I'm planning in June to Amsterdam (never been before). As I lay there thinking about it, I suddenly imagined a little restaurant in front of a canal, and I pictured myself there in the summer, in the afternoon. I kept focusing on this place caus it was giving me a good feeling.
Then all of a sudden my whole body started tingling, from my head to my toes, all why my mind stayed zeroed in on this place that I haven't even been to yet. It almost felt like my body was electric. Such an indescribably good feeling, and I stayed like that for maybe 2 mins, and then my dog started barking and took me out of the moment.
So what was happening to me? Did I go somewhere without going? Or was I actually meditating? I've never done any type of meditation before, so it seems kinda unlikely to me, but I guess it could be possible...
-
ANSWER:
Yes. I wish I can meditate like that.
Maybe I should just try it one day.
I would probably go to sleep. And you might have been astral dreaming. Like you were their but not physically.

QUESTION:
Was it a discrimination by police?
When I tried to leave my car with 2 dogs inside, 3 of 4 windows & roof-top window were slightly open, a caucasian woman walked to me and told dogs were going to die. I told her windows were open, then walked into a restaurant for a quick lunch for 15 min. When I stepped out the restaurant, 2 police officers came to me, and asked if the silver suv was mine.
THAT woman called police!
I was surrounded by 4 police officers and one female caucasian (who is different from the one showed up first), and a felame officer kept telling me that she could arrest and put me in a jail for 2 years due to animal cruelty, but didn't by her favor. They even allowed the stranger woman to yell at me "are you crazy?"
Actually, the inside of my car was not hot at all when the door was opened, my dogs were barking just because police officers were looking in. I checked a law (sb 1806) online and found they can't even arrest me when dogs are not harmed.

QUESTION:
Relationship(story, question, thing, share thoughts) detailed xD?
Okay so I have this really sweet girlfriend and we've been together for 5 months pretty much. We are pretty in tune with each other, but sometimes there's miss communication. But for the most part we love each other and our relationship is based on friendship. We only get to see eachother one or two times a week, and the times I do see her we have some kind of sexual encounter. Is this bad? Its not like it's the only thing we do when we're together but idk I get a weird vibe. I love her a lot and I don't want sex to be the relationship breaker or maker.. you know? We talk every day and sometimes at night, I work overnight but for the most part we have a healthy relationship. She writes me the sweetest letters and she talks about making it big with me
D So i'm pretty excited, but at the same time I'm really scared because I don't want to disappoint her. I found out some old stuff that dated to like when we first started going out, she said she loved some other guy and called him baby and stuff >:[ i was saaaaddd. I know it happpened a while ago you know but what am I supposed to think? time has rolled on and I have grown to love her with a passion. sometimes she just acts weird.. but i know she loves me, we've been through a lot, and i hope that me sticking around will in turn bring me a greater relationship in the future with her<33that's my end.
On Christmas I went over to her house and met her family, it was all good nice dinner and stuff, it comes 9pm and we decide to watch a movie together(dark knight, badass) Her mom was so paranoid that she stayed up with us in the living room just so she could keep an eye on us. She is 18 and I am 19, I mean that is a little ridiculous eh? Well anyways we finish the movie and it turns out my friend can't pick me up so I end up having to stay outside. We didn't want to tell her mom I was there(she was already trippin)So my girlfriend waited for her mom to sleep and snuck outside to be with me, she even slept out there with me.. on this recliner.bless her heart<333 but anyways.. It wasn't too cold outside but it was the wind that gave us the chills. So as the night went on we went on about our business, got a few hours of sleep. But around 6am her dog came out to pee, this dog barks for everything.. so yeah you know how it goes. She goes back inside and barely makes it past her mom. I had no ride so i went to some 24 hour restaurant and ate like a fatty then tried to sleep a little, my phone was dead so I couldnt text her for **** haha. 10am came I couldnt take it so I went back over there. I knocked and there she came and we sat outside for a little and her mom came out. her mom was mad at the world, she found out that I slept in the back cuz the gate was open. So like me and her mom talked, i explained everything like my intentions with her daughter, and explained a lot of what I felt for her. Her mom just let it flow in one ear and out the other, talked to me pretty disrespectfully and completely ignores everything her daughter had to say. I'm not gonna lie I was in tears and my girl couldn't even take it anymore, she was just crying. I finally convince her mom to let me see her, and she goes outside. her and i sat there for hours talking on end until about 6pm or630 I believe.. we had a nice time to talk and just be together i can tell I'm in love. if this isn't love then what is??
We both feel that we want to continue the relationship. My inner hunch suggests she's hiding something, something she doesn't want me to know.. that's like my only concern :/ when I talk to her about it she says she tells me everything.. but at the same time I know something is up.. idk if that makes sense-
ANSWER:
It is love. Follow your heart and do not let her mom stop you and your girlfriend from sharing your love with eachother.

QUESTION:
Fruits Basket Cursed with the Cat dream?
I was walking in a run down alley with houses all around. It was night and a young boy passed me I gave no second glance to him even when a dog barked at me. My heart thumped and I started running. I could hear someone calling out to me telling me to stop. I realized it was Kyo Sohma and my heart fluttered happily and I realized I loved him. I think I knew I was dreaming but I didnt know why my heart hurt and I wanted to cry. I jumped fences with cats meowing at me and I thought Kyo was there but i then realized I was cursed with the cat like Kyo. I passed a restaurant with Yellow lights like a French cafe or maybe it was Christmas? I jumped on a water tower and starred down at Kyo who looked to be worried and he shouted my name. I jumped down to the another side of the little area with Kyo still following behind me. I was surprised that he had caught me and when he turned me around I woke up and I found myself on the brink of crying.

QUESTION:
What should i do? Is she the worlds craziest wife or am i wrong?
I am going to open up about EVERYTHING in my relationship and do it here because i dont care if a stranger judges me and i need a place to vent and see what others think...My Wife and i are seperated and have been since April 12th (she stayed at a friends that week) or 19th (she got her own apartment). I filed for divorce and she paid all the filing fees
(awesome). Everything was good for the first 2 years, or so i thought. Then one day while arguing about money i left for work and had an awful feeling something was going to happen. Sure enough a "man broke in and beat my wife up"... with TWO dobermans locked in the front bedroom and the one was not quiet, ever. Supposedly my wife was using the bathroom and heard teh dogs barking so she "got up" and opened the door and a guy in a ski mask beat the mess out of her. she was bruised pretty good, but not to the point she should have been if someone wanted to hurt her.
i got a call from her sister at work telling me to get home, the sister made her call 911, she didnt do it on her own. now, that day i found out a lot of lies because when the story was explained to myself and an officer he began questioning me, i told him i didnt do it and pointed out that.... THE TOILET SEAT WAS UP!!! my wife claims to use it with the seat up sometimes (no woman does this).
i left home to get her father and this is what came out: i know how far fetched and naive i was at that time, but in my defense two major reasons i believed her are: numerous (4) coworkers told me about her "past" and talked me into dating her and giving her a chance because of her past and how she needed someone to be patient with her and understanding.... and her dad made a silly comment while wrestling with her saying "dont you wish i was your real dad".... read on folks
Below are things i was told while dating.....
Told me her real father was a next door neighbor
Told me her family had michigan mafia connections
told me she was 100% italian
said her real father owned a major restaurant chain
Said she had money in an overseas account from an inhertiance and family in italy stole it, used 500K while we were dating - she would even come over my house dressed up in clothing to match situations like funerals, business meetings, etc... who goes to those lengths for a lie????
Said she was molested and raped by her aunts boyfriend for years.
Said the man who molested her was released from prison in 2003 and he was stalking her, i asked if i could help out and she said her "cousins" were taking care of it. She had a hand written letter from him to her that was left on her bed (the man broke in) - it had some of the most disgusting things written in it, she showed me but i refused to read it.
She went to a major school of dance and was offered a job dancing over seas but stayed here because of me (i insisted she take the job).
Her dance partner saw bruises on her thighs and that's how her molestor was caught
Her dance partern died of AIDS, her dance school owner passed away, her half sister was killed, she found another neighborhood friend who was molested by teh same guy dead (she hung herself), and another person who was molested (slit her own throat).
she said her father had given her a black eye in the summer of 03 and had blamed her molestor to hide that her dad hit her.we tried to make it work and then...
I Found envelope with "Vaction Money" written on it in her white back pack - never confronted her but have found out since that it was her moms and she stole it.
-She had a ziploc bag (1 gallon size) with double seal strips (blue and purple) - when i asked her where it came from she said her purse and it rolled into our argument about the next event which ultimately led her to leave the first time 3 years ago.
-I had a bestbuy gift card stolen from me - i called best buy with the card number and they described an mp3 player which was purchased with the card, she purchased the same item on the same day but denied she used my card.WOW!!!!
now, we have a 2 year old because while she was gone the first time this man couldnt keep it in his pants because of course the crazier they are the hotter they are and my wife's kind of hot and OF COURSE she stopped taking her birth control a few months earlier and DIDNT TELL ME!!!! (i love my daughter with all my heart)
and now.... i found a love letter from her coworker that i "respectfully" referred to as "her boyfriend" over the past 14 months... sure enough, they began dating THE WEEK after she moved out. we have a 2 year old and i'm stumped as to what to do now... every ounce of me wants an apology but she blames me, says i treated her horribly and she "moved on"... let me be clear... I DO NOT WANT HER BACK!!! i filed for divorce a few weeks ago and we have a settlement agreement to be filed in a
just looking to vent.. what i wrote is 100 percent truth and i confronted her on this stuff when she moved out and her reply was "i moved on, so should you"....also would like to know if character plays a BIG role or "just a role" with custody...
her parents are furious with her, her sisters dont believe a word she says, she lied and said i've been sleeping around for "years and in front of my daughter" and when her sister said she didnt believe that she replied with "mind your own business then".
her family relationships are strained at best and i was told that "anything or anyone" i needed to help me out would be there when needed.
and... To agnostic queen... i am a wonderful father- i have been working with at risk youth for 10 years... my relationship with my 2 year old will never be questioned, by anyone with any knowledge of our relationship because it's simply that strong of a bond.
The kicker... i was arrested for domestic violence last night. she claimed i hit her in the back yard.. i was inside with my 2 year old coloring.-
ANSWER:
Like you, I cannot stand having a liar around me.Don't obsess over an apology. Who cares what a liar says? She's still going to tell "her people" whatever she wants them to believe. With the exception of your daughter, turn your back on that entire chapter of your life.
Instead, get the best attorney you can afford and get a fresh start on life. The sooner this woman is out of your life, the better it will be for you and your daughter. Just be sure she doesn't get custody of the child.
My husband had to give up EVERYTHING and then some for custody of his son, whose mother is manipulative, emotional, irresponsible, vinidictive and a liar. Nine years later, we're still paying the IRS for her tax debt but the son is far better off than he would've been had she raised him.
That's what it's all about.

QUESTION:
Obnoxious neighbors. What would you do?
My neighbors have this horrid little dog, Diamond, that barks and growls all the time. I have a chocolate lab myself but she's rather timid, at least compared to Diamond. Diamond comes over to my house and stands at the front door barking, barking, barking. If I try to open the door she gets very aggressive. When I'm walking my dog and we see her outside, again the barking starts followed by her running up to us and if she can, she'll rush past me and go after my dog. To the best of my knowledge she's not landed a bite, but she does nip at both me and my dog.
Also these neighbors have a MENU posted on their front door. They SELL treats, hot dogs, soda, candy, etc to the neighborhood kids. Not only do I wonder if that's even safe or legal, but its really annoying to live across from the "local malt shop". (They sell things like chocolate dipped frozen fruit, yogurt dipped frozen fruit on sticks, and the aforementioned candy, chips, soda, licorice, and so much more.) And there's always a mess when the children decide to throw their trash into my yard.
So my question is, what do I do? What CAN I do? We live in an "apartment community" -- it's set up like condominiums. This family is directly across the sidewalk from me. Our front doors face each other. I've tried to talk to them. But its difficult to tell someone to control their dog. Especially when the dog is the responsiblity of the children, and the parents make that clear. Of course the children aren't going to attend to the problem. The only time the "problem" exists is when I'm over there complaining about it. They always say "we're so sorry". But yet the situation continues. I hate to be THAT neighbor and start filing real complaints, but two weeks ago I went to the management company and discussed the whole situation with them. They said they were aware of the "Diamond issue" but didn't know about the menu/restaurant thing. And they said they would talk to that family about it. So two weeks later, the menu is still on the door and nothing has changed. I had out-of-town guests last weekend who even commented on the "menu".If you made it this far, thanks for sticking with me.
My lease is up in September. Do you think I should wait it out? Should I pursue the situation further and let things get ugly? Do I contact the county health department and let them know about the snack bar being run out of their home? Can anyone give me suggestions? I am out of ideas.-
ANSWER:
Move. Start making arrangements/planning now if your lease is up in 9/10. I am myself. You can pursue the License thing about selling food/running a business from he home, etc., or the Health Dept., but there are always unintended consequences. You never know what they are going to be. My neighbors upstairs almost killed my dog by degreasing their BBQ with Pinesol and dumping the residue onto my patio. My apt.complex won't allow your plants to grow below your patio but it's ok to dump toxic crap down below? I went to the Manager. Deaf ears. Are you kidding me? Crazy. Thank God my little girl was with me and I didn't have any birds. My neighbors have made nice with me because we are Christians, but I am getting the hell out of here regardless. They have done other things which jeopardized the whole building because they have no idea of consequences of their actions. She carries around a nasty dirty doll by BTW. About 45 years old. WTF? Whatever. Freaky. Dangerous.Move. Because even if you got what you wanted, there is always the threat of retaliation. For me, the only way to get to me is through my animal.

QUESTION:
Questions about service dogs?
I'm trying to find info about service dogs. I know of this lady who claims to have a service dog. She takes the dog everyone she goes. The dog even goes into restaurants and she feeds it directly from her own fork. I can't believe the restaurant tolerates an animal eating from the silverware, but I guess that is a whole different topic. But anyway, I know that several business owners in the community are very annoyed with this lady because the dog has no manners. It barks at other customers and even lunges at them sometimes. I would just like other people's opinion on whether or not you think a service dog would act this way. I thought that service animals were very well trained. And another thing, the dog never has any identification on. Not even a collar. Do you think if this person really has a service dog then she should probably has some type of proof? I would think that in case a business owner asked she would have something that could be provided? I actually work at a place where she brings the dog and it is embarrassing when the dog misbehaves because sometimes the customers think the dog belongs to one of us employees. I am afraid it will scare our customers away.
And I have never seen the dog wear a vest either.
After I posted my question my sister told me to log onto www.servicedogssavelives.org. I found out that some states do require identification and the state I live in is one of them. Thanks for the answers.-
ANSWER:
I don't think you read all the way through Beth's site.State laws that require identification are void. The ADA supersedes them. Demanding proof of certification or identificaiton is itself a violation of the ADA. It's simply not the right way to go about this.
No, it's not the way a service animal would act. What's more, barking and behaving aggressively toward others is sufficient justification for the businesses to have the animal removed, regardless of whether it has any ID (which is available for a small fee over the internet, so meaningless anyway).
What businesses CAN do to tell whether an animal is a service animal, is ask these two questions:
1. Is this a service animal required because of disability? and
2. What is it trained to do to mitigate that disability. If the person is not disabled or the dog is not trained to perform tasks that mitigate the disability, then it isn't a service dog (regardless of vests or ID).
Make sure all involved businesses have a copy of this official guidance from the U.S. Department of Justice, the government agency charged with enforcing the ADA.
http://www.ada.gov/svcanimb.htmMake sure they also have this toll-free hotline to the Department of Justice for questions about the ADA: 800 - 514 - 0301
If you do not go through the proper steps you can expose your business to litigation (ie being sued).

QUESTION:
Why do people like the suburbs?
(In America) ... why? the suburbs suck! Even if I was a millionaire, I would rather choose to live in a urban area than the suburbs. Why?I hate the suburbs!
1) I am not a racist but in majority of U.S. suburbs are white populated. Urban areas and big cities are more diverse and interesting! More places to go! More restaurants! More people! More fun! That's right, all you people living in the burbs suck ass.
2) It is too individualistic, snobic, cold, and plain idiotic. What more can I say?
3) Neighbors keep to themselves in their gigantic houses, and don't come out often. Walking is a pain where everything is so far away, and ditches, barking dogs, tons of weeds, and the heat get to you. Am I not correct? Oh please ...
4) Suburban lifestyle is related to obesity. The suburban lifestyle is just 100% BORING. That's right. BORING!!!
5) The only good thing is usually better school systems.
Now please answer my question. WHY???
In the city, you can find more interesting stuff. A random guy breakdancing in the streets, good smelling food stands, addicting music playing in the cars loud, more events, etc. Going to the 'Burbs and seeing green trees everywhere you go and little kids on scooters is lame. REAL LAME. & Stupid.-
ANSWER:
I do not understand why people like the suburbs as well.
I am a city boy through and through.
Suburban life is pretty generic. If you closed your eyes, and were magically transported from one to another, they would all look alike: the same cookie cutter houses and MacMansions, the same old malls with the same old chain stores, the same corporate restaurant food chains from cheap fast food to the up-scale. People tend to look alike as well. And there is little individuality.
I prefer living in the city because they are melting pots of cultures and people. They are more diverse. There is much more to do.
And I love sitting in a cafe or at a sidewalk table and watching the human race go by.
I have lived in a very rural existence for a few years as well, because of a job. I would prefer living in the country to living in the suburbs, even though I have little appreciation for a rural existence. At least it's not generic.
I tend to think people move to the suburbs because of racial issues if the truth be told. That way they can live with their own kind, and not deal with the grittiness of the real world and city life.

QUESTION:
Me and my friend got in a fight because she got annoyed by me what should i do??
We were playing restaurant and i pretened to be a dog so i barked while my friend was taking orders and she just walked away and i asked her whats wrong and she said YOU! and i started to cry because that hert but she wont talk to me. What should i do??-
ANSWER:
well hun, sometimes people are a little more uptite about things and get annoyed by the smallest things. In my eyes you did nithing wrong it was your "friend" who got hot headed over a silly thing. If she dos'nt like what you are doing she should tell you and not just blow you off. Once she realizes the great friend she may loose over this is will be her lose and maybe she will learn not to loose her temper so quickly and to speak what she feels instead of hurting with her actions.

QUESTION:
Was this a good date?
I took my girlfriend out to the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. We watched about 1/2 of the opera "War and Peace" and we decided to go walk around broadway. (Not as I expected it to be but okay) We got lost when we first were coming to the city, then we got lost again. We called the day "Adventures in the City". I was planning to take her to a restaurant at the end, but we ended up going to Burger King XD (her choice!). Before we got home, I told her that we'll take a shortcut (a way which I didn't know what lead up to). We ended up in some alley, and it was the scariest experience of both of our lives. While we were walking in the dark, 2 huge dogs started barking and were about to jump on us! I took her hand and we started running so fast. (We got out of course...lol) When we got home, she said "Thank you so much for everything! This is the best fun I've had! Getting lost in the city, running from dogs, I loved it!" Do I take girls out on adventurous dates? What do u think?-
ANSWER:
Sounds like a great day!But I am concerned about your honesty. You wrote: "it was the scariest experience of both of our lives". This can not be true. Try never to exaggerate. It's enough to say: "It was pretty scary"

QUESTION:
Freeloading Brother is Driving Me Nuts!?
Let me set the scene for you: My husband and I live in a 2 bedroom apartment. We have 3 cats and a small dog. This is a comfortable and loving environment. We have always striven to take care of our less fortunate family members, from providing a place to escape to for a few days to helping with bills. My husband's 24 year old brother was fired from his job in April, just before Easter. He has always lived in MO with his mother, but has wanted to relocate to NE to be closer to my husband, who is like his best friend. Thus, when he lost his job, he started job hunting up here.
He actually found a job within the first 3 days, so we said he could stay with us until he had saved up enough for his own place. While he was waiting on his first "real" check (full hours, not just training 3-4 hours a day) my husband and I were providing gas money and food, in addition to footing the bill for any activities we did, like movies or dinners out or borrowing him money when he asked. We also paid for Brother's insurance premium, a loan payment, a new car battery, and other miscellaneous expenses.
Unfortunately, Brother is now making very good money, but blowing it. Instead of saving, he has taken trips to visit a long distance girlfriend, gotten a 0 tattoo, gone on a 0+ shopping spree for clothing and presents for the girlfriend, etc. He eats out frequently, having fast food/restaurant dinners more than 5 times a week. He also buys 0s of dollars in food a month that he does not welcome us to and keeps in a separate refrigerator.
There have also been problems with cleaning up after oneself, not leaving dirty dishes full of water "soaking" in the sink for days at a time, helping out with household chores, etc. There is also an issue of respect for my small dog, whom he does not like and I cherish as my most valued friend and prized tool. He does not like her simply because she is a small dog with a high pitched bark.
We have talked to Brother about setting a goal and sticking to it, but when asked what his goal was, he said, "I honestly don't know." We told him that needed to change.
Now, Brother is planning another trip to the girlfriend's, where they will stay in a hotel for her birthday. This will be another 0+ trip. Last night, he felt it appropriate to scream at my dog at the top of his lungs as soon as he came home due to her barking. I have hit the limit of my patience with this young man.
My husband does not want to charge Brother rent because he feels that Brother will feel entitled to an opinion about household issues if he is paying part of the rent. We do charge him a month for electric/internet, which he has yet to pay in full.
How can I communicate my extreme displeasure and coerce him into setting his own time limit/goal to be on his own? My husband is getting irritated as well, but no where near my level. I don't want to create bad blood between them, but I cannot allow someone to live with us forever. Especially after last night's stunt with my dog.
-
ANSWER:
Why is he not moving out already? He has a job and makes good money? Why on earth are you letting him still live with you and your husband? Tell him he has 2 months to find a place and get his butt out of the house... otherwise it doesn't sound like you'll ever get rid of him! He is 24, not a child. He's blowing his money because he knows he can sponge off of you two.

QUESTION:
what am i eating???????????
Hi there,
have recently found a restaurant in london that allows you to eat in including - pie chips and a drink for £4. My friends and i go there quite a lot but because of the low price i am somewhat concerned about the quality of the meat.- which is suppossed to be steak. Is it really quality steak?
Recently, we have experienced a large amount of stolen dogs in our neighbourhood and i was wondering if the two were linked. The last time we were there my friend though he could hear barking coming from the basement.
Am i eating dog?
-
ANSWER:
I'd guess you were eating poor quality (lips, ears and ar5eholes) steak that won't do you too much good. As for the dogs, I think the chemicals in the pies might have something to do with the barking your friends heard.

QUESTION:
How can I get them to believe me? They wont stop blaming me! Please help?
So I have a dog that is in heat, and she is too little to have puppies so we have a baby gate up for my male dog. I was babysitting and before I left I had my old brother pick my little brother up so I could go hangout with friends (I have been home all weekend and this is the last night to do anything, and I had permission to leave from my parents). Well anyways, as I was walking out of my house, I had seen my dog on top of the couch barking at the people who were picking me up and she had her diaper on (doggy diaper for extra protection) and I checked to see if the baby gate was still up and it was and I could see my male dog on the bed in the room barking as I walk to the door. Well I get a call when I am at the restaurant and my mom is freaking out asking if I let him out and I was no, I promise. Well they dont believe me, and I am 100% positive I didnt let him out! When I got home, I was still getting yelled and accused, and I was about to cry because my dad keeps saying "you dont know what we are going to have to go through" and "you are so irresponsible" and he just keeps going on and on, I promise on my life I didnt let him out. How can I make them understand I didnt let him out?

ANSWER:
You probably can't convince them of it.Let it ride and stop worrying so much about it you know he was in when you left.So stop beating yourself up about it.You can't changed what happened and you seem like you would if you could. As far as your parents go they are just upset and probably worried they to will get over it eventually.

QUESTION:
In-laws choosing dogs feelings over grandchildrens safety. Advice?
My in-laws are good people and I love them very much. Our only problem is their obsession over their dog. They have an ill tempered West Highland Terrier. The first time I ever met my in laws the dog yapped the entire time I was there and even bit my mother-in-law for simply picking it up. It wasn't a big deal till our first son was born. When I was pregnant with him one of my husband's aunts pulled us aside and told us "We know you love your parents but be careful taking the baby over to their house after he is born because their dog has bit several of his cousins."
It wasn't long after he was born that my in-laws started badgering us to bring our son over to visit. We expressed (nicely) our concerns about the dog and asked if they would be willing to put the dog in the other room while we were there to avoid any problems and they refused. They said it would upset their dog too much and hurt his feelings. After yet more badgering and comments that we were keeping their grandbaby from them we gave in. The whole time we were there the dog growled, snarled and barked when either of them held him. They thought it was cute that their puppy was jealous. After a miserable hour my husband was fed up and we left. We told them we would not be coming back over unless they agree to put the dog up and they got mad and said we were overreacting.
We were able to avoid taking him back over there for quite some time, appeasing them w/ visits at restaurant and few at our house. By the time he was 10 months they were back to badgering us about coming to their house. After some scathing remarks once again about us keeping the baby from them and how he gets to visit "my" parents house we agreed to try visiting again. Once again we pleaded w/ them to put the dog in another room but were once again met with refusal. We even explained that since he was now walking he might upset the dog and they still refused. They swore that the dog would NEVER bite our son and we reluctantly agreed. It wasn't ten minutes into our visit when our son toddled over to his grandma and the dog very quickly spun around and bit at our son's face. It missed by less than an inch due to my mother-in-law's lightning fast reflexes as she snapped up the dog. We literally heard the the dogs teeth as they snapped together.
We were so angry we couldn't speak. We simply picked up our son, his diaper bag, and left. They called us about an hour later saying that he was only "snapping" and that our son touched the dog as he walked by causing him to do so. He wouldn't have actually bit him!!
We told them we were done and that they could come to our house to visit their grandson whenever they want, but we would absolutely not be going back to their house.
A year later we had another baby. We felt bad that his parents weren't spending as much time with their grandsons and my husband and I offered to let them pick the kids up and spend time with them as long as they don't take them back to their house. They were so excited and two days later they picked up the kids telling us they were taking them to the park and grabbing a bite to eat. They brought the kids back, telling us they had a great time and the kids were sleeping. A week later we found out (quite by accident) that they lied to us and took the kids to their house and stayed there the whole time they were gone.
When we found out we were livid!! My husband called them and they denied the whole thing. My husband's grandmother called and let it slip. Anyway, now we feel they can't trust them at all. They are constantly calling asking to pick the boys up and I am always making an excuse as to why they can't.
I don't know what else to do. At family functions his family always catch me by myself and make comments about how odd it is that my family is always with the boys and his parents aren't.
Sorry about the length but I had to get the whole thing out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.-
ANSWER:
NEVER EVER EVER let your in-laws take your children out of your sight as you now know they cannot be trusted with them and that the in-laws will actually lie to you to get their own way. And they are not thinking clearly. That dog is jealous of your child and if it snaps, it will bite. And a dog bite can kill a child, especially an infant! Your in-laws are in complete denial over what their dog will do and they will blame your child before they will ever accept accountability for their actions. And if your child is bitten or even killed, there will be an investigation by CPS. If it comes out that you were warned about your in-laws' dog or how they cared for your children, you could lose custody of any children you have (ie. you knew better and will be held accountable!).If and when his family make comments about you not letting your children go to their in-laws, make it very clear to everyone that the dog is a hazard and that you have a duty under the law to protect your child. Let them know that the in-laws are free to visit your children under your roof and supervision, but not otherwise. If anyone pushes the issue, tell them you don't care to discuss it any further. Do not let yourself get blackmailed by family or pressured or guilted into letting your in-laws visit your children unsupervised and do not bring your children to the in-laws home either.
Stay strong and take care!

QUESTION:
I'm 13 and writing a book. I really want it to get published and do I have a chance?
Here it is but you don't have to read it all. I just didn't know what to put in.
Bear in mind that some of the content might be mudled up from the copy and paste.
Preface
Where to begin? How do you explain something so complex and unreal. Let’s say something’s should just be left hidden- untouched- not to be disturbed. Some things are too pure and delicate for us to care about. Like a dove's egg. A young soul yet to be freed into world. A life so fragile and helpless. We ponder childish thoughts and stroke the smooth shell. Though when the mother may return it rejects the life to be and leaves it in the bitter winds destroying its potential. The dove that flies and gives us hope is gone all because of our selfish curiosity.
The real world can be tough but thats where we belong.
I read these words over and over.
What does it mean by worlds? Have I yet to find out?Chapter 1
A Fresh Start“ Hello, earth to Scarlet.”
I bolt up-right, I feel like I have just woken up from a realistic dream.
“It's breakfast hurry up what do you want?”
I looked at my mum. What is she talking about? She knows I only eat my own cooking or restaurants that met my standards.
“Just a glass of orange juice. Please!”
The Air Hostess hands over the carton of juice and gives me a huge smile and smugly pushes her trolley away.
“Scarlet, come on you haven't eaten anything for hours, your skinny enough as it is, you need to get out this habit,”
Were interrupted by a pig like snore irrupting from my slumbering dad.
“Harold, shush!”
My mum flicks him in the forehead. He
groans and judders but continues snorting like a pig. 'Typical parent behaviour' I smirk.
My mum usually starts going on at me and then totally forgets.
I put away my diary and open the shutter letting in a flood of light.
I then press my head against the window
looking out towards the ocean of clouds.
I'm getting kinda bored. I've watched all the In-flight movies, I've read all my books and magazines and I've even turned the sick-bag into a hand puppet. So I start imagining what my new life will be like in Michigan.
Snow and more Snow. I don't see why my Dad accepted the new job in that big computer hardware company. His job back in London was fine and I was perfectly content with my life. Anyway I'm gonna miss Anna and Louise
my best friends since year one. I became friends with Anna on the first day of school.
She was crying in the corner of the play ground because she had, well 'an accident.'
I comforted her and said that it happens to everyone, I guess we were friends since then. I first met Louise after the Christmas break when she had just moved down from Scotland. Everyone teased her because of her accent, except me. I even gave her my cookie from lunch. I sigh and my eyes prick. I'm also gonna miss Shady, my beautiful black and white springer spaniel too. She loved me so much and was always extremely daft, but now shes in kennel waiting every day for me to come back with her head in her paws trying to ignore the other dogs who keep barking and intimidating her. I hate my Dad for that.
I didn't speak to him for days when I heard we were moving. My dad said that we would get a new dog but I didn't care. I kind of regret being mean to him but I was pretty depressed.
To be honest watching Old Yeller during the flight didn't really help. My face was like a wet peach exuding water when Yeller died.
The first time I watched it I was petrified
that Shady might of get rabies and die too.
“Scarlet!”
Uggghhh what now.....
“Make sure you've got all your things the
planes landing in a few minutes!”
Like I care!
The ground is now visible. A blanket of
snow.
Cool!“Attention, could all passengers put their
seat belts on and remain seated for landing.
Thank you.”
I look to my right, my mum is staring in my direction.
Looks like trouble.
“Scarlet have you done what I asked you!”
I grab all my books and stuff them in my bag.
“Yes mum!”
'Bump!'
I look outside it’s just a blur of white and grey. The next thing you know everyone is swarming through the isle like ravenous flies desperate to get a taste of the sweet sugar that beholds at the end of the path.
'Well a good ten minutes,'
“Oh shut up Scarlet,” says she....
I push through the crowd, I can't stand this Plane!
Then...'Sigh'
I feel like a baby rabbit taking its first steps out the burrow. It’s so refreshing and radiant.
Even though its freezing I take a few more steps. Now my stomach flutters with horror as I plummet down, and down.Chapter 2
Something In the mirror“She looks fine to me, you've got nothing to worry about Mrs Dove,”
'What did he say Harold, I still need to get used to this accent,'
“He said she's fine Marie!”
I snort with laughter even though my nose is bulging and spurting a scarlet waterfall.
I guess it suits my name!
I didn't know airports have a doctors surgery.
Weird.....
My mum is now ask-

Barking Dog Restaurant Amesbury Ma
Let me just tell you that if you have a dog that is pulling the leash when you are walking him, you are in good company. Just a few corrections and your dog walk will be a new experience. It takes two to pull or create tension in a leash so remember that both you and your dog need to adjust your behavior.
Lets start by taking a step back to try to understand why your dog is pulling the leash and how to train your dog not to do so . Most living beings act based on how to gain pleasure or void pain, and in this case the dog associates this behavior with pleasure or reward. When I go out to play with my dog we go to park near by to play and meet other dogs. As a puppy my dog was pulling like crazy ever time she understood where we where going. And guess what. Every time she got to park five minutes later so to her pulling was to arrive in her favorite place, the park. Just give it some thoughts and you will see that every time your dog is pulling there are some sort of reward at the end of it.
To undo this, to some very frustrating dog behavior there are a few simple but powerful steps to take. Every time your pull or create some sort of tension juts stop for a few seconds. Give the dog a reward in form of praise or food/favorite toy when he turns his attention to you. If it doesen't help then take some steps back or in an other direction. But the key here is to reward your dog every time the tension is gone, with it's favorite toy or food of your choice. Repeat this behavior until the dog don't pull as much any longer, then start to reward him when he stops pulling and are back at your side looking at you giving you it's attention. This should not take to long time before your dog is walking in leash with you in a way that you will enjoy
Lets summarize this effective way on how to train your dog stop pulling the leash:
- Both you and your dog need to change behavior to make this work.
- Do this every time your dog is pulling. Be consistent.
- Reward your dog every time your behave the way you like it to do.
PS! Some dogs likes to walk in front of their pack because they try to take the lead. If this is the case for you, just follow the same steps. I have done so with success on some of my dogs.
Have a good dog-walk
Cheers
Tom
Barking Dog Problems Monterey County
Controlling excessive dog barking is a painful ordeal for the dog owners to deal with. It is difficult and time consuming unless you know why your dog is barking in the first place.
Dog barking is a natural behavior of expressing their mood, excitement and to get your attention to their needs. Along with their vocalization, tail movements and facial aspects they convey different meaning depending on the situation.
Here are some instances where they convey different meaning. High-pitched short tonal bark with swift tail wags when he is in a playful mood. Low gruff bark gradually increasing to howling when somebody is at the door or near the house. Loud bark with raised hackles when he sees another dog or cat. High pitched incessant bark when he is lonely or distressed and so on.
Once you know what triggers the barking then putting a fix is an easy task. Reasons for barking fall into two main categories - Basic behavior problem and situations and circumstances contributing to the barking. Barking on instinct is natural and should not be restrained.
Let's see how to stop your dog's relentless barking which sometimes has no apparent cause:
* Teaching your dog what is an acceptable behavior and what is not should be the first in your dog behavior training. Barking constantly in an attempt to get your attention and forcing you to submit to his needs is not good. Just to stop him from barking if you give a treat or play then you are encouraging him to bark even more in the future. Just walk away from him and don't even look at him. He may be confused and bark harder at first but by consistently reinforcing this you will have better control over this behavior.
* Divert his attention whenever he barks. Use "quiet" or "enough" or whatever word you want to use to divert him when he barks. Use the same word all the time not to confuse him. When he obeys to your command and stop barking, reward him with a treat and praise him immediately. He starts to associate treat and praise with the command you use and learn to be quiet.
* When your dog feels dominant he will simply ignore any of your commands. He needs to be taught at earlier stage before he becomes teen the hierarchy of the household. He has to learn that he is below every member in the household. Dogs behave well under a leadership and form a good relationship based on trust and regard.
* Constant barking due to boredom or lack of socialization: They become anxious or stressed without social interaction and resort to meaningless barking to let out their stress. Spend time and engage your dog with playful activities, which are interactive like fetching the ball or taking for a long walk.
* Separation anxiety can drive your dog to bark constantly. When left alone, they bark in an effort to get out of that situation. Exercise him enough before you leave so that he is tired and sleep when you are away and also provide enough chewy toys and items to engage him till you return.
Shock collars to curb dog barking is inhumane and is strongly discouraged. Positive reinforcement is an effective approach for all behavior issues.
Barking Dog Problems
If you're like most people, the sound of a barking dog will drive you nuts. Did you know that incessant loud barking is one of the most annoying and stressful noises for humans? If your dog engages in excessive barking, here are five tips that can help stop a barking dog.
Choose Your Dog Breed Carefully To Avoid Problem Barking
The working breeds of dogs, including cattle dogs, border collies, and German shepherds, need jobs to do, or they'll get bored and frustrated. And boredom and frustration in dogs leads to barking problems. Before you adopt a dog, do your homework so you can find the best dog for your situation.
If you live on a farm and need help herding animals, a border collie may be a great help. The same dog can cause untold problems in a suburban yard. Choose your new pet carefully.
Excessive Barking Is A Way To Use Energy
Dogs are high maintenance animals. This is something else to consider before you adopt one. Did you know that dogs require around an hour and a half of exercise a day to use up their energy? Dogs who are cooped up inside or tied up in the yard all day by themselves are more prone to problem barking. This behavior uses up pent-up energy.
If you don't have enough time to walk your dog every day, you may need to hire someone to do it.
Nuisance Barking Is A Cry For Attention
Dogs are very social animals. In the wild, they live in packs. It's an unnatural situation for a dog to be alone for long periods of time. Loud barking is how your dog asks for attention.
Spend lots of time with your dog. Take him on errands with you in the car. Who hasn't seen a dog, joyfully hanging his head out a car window, sniffing the wind, and smiling? Play with him, talk with him. Make him a part of your life, and he'll reward you many times over with his devotion.
Make Sure You're The Alpha Dog
Dogs in the wild bark to alert the pack of strangers or danger. The pack leader then deals with the situation if necessary. You should do the same. When your dog barks, check to see what he's barking at. Then tell him, "that's enough." He should defer to you as the alpha dog. If he doesn't, take him by the collar and shake him gently, again saying "that's enough" more firmly. You need to establish yourself as the leader so your dog will listen to you.
Avoid Reinforcing Problem Barking
Believe it or not, yelling at your dog doesn't solve barking problems. Your dog is getting your attention, so he'll keep barking in order to get it, especially if that's the only time you pay attention to him.
It's very easy to inadvertently train your dog to do the wrong things. Avoid dog behavior problems by learning how to communicate with your dog effectively. A good dog training course that includes a consultation with a professional dog trainer may be the answer to your nuisance barking problems.

QUESTION:
Dog barking problems, help?
So my dog is a pretty good boy, he listens to me and he dosen't cause trouble but he has one huge problem. If I take him on a walk or we go to a store and I have to tie him up outside he barks like crazy. I don't think it's separation anxiety because it's only when I leave him outside of stores. I can leave him at a friends or relatives house where he's chained up outside and he's completely fine.Any tips on how to train him not to spaz outside of stores?
-
ANSWER:
Take him to stores and don't go inside. Reward him for being quiet. Then step toward the door, reward him for being quiet. Every day or two, go a few feet closer to the door or into the door, then go out and reward him for being quiet. Work up to 10 minutes just inside the door. That will give you 15 or 20 to shop. Don't expect a dog to be happy to see you go. Even if it isn't separation anxiety, he can't protect you if he can't see you. Baby steps. And, aren't you worried that someone might steal him if you leave him tied outside and quiet and sweet?

QUESTION:
Barking Dog problems?
I own a shih-poo and he isn't very good around guest and people passing by. Is there a way we could get him to be calmer around other people and quieter. Also sometimes he is outside (in the fenced in backyard) and doesn't come in when he is called because he either see's us in our coats because we are going somewhere, there is a neighbor or their dog outside or he just doesn't listen and he doesn't come in right away with treats becasue he can't smell them when he is outside right away with all the other smells.-
ANSWER:
It sounds like he needs to be trained better. Around other people, every time he barks, make sure that you are calm and assertive and give a sharp tug on the leash. He will eventually learn that it is not acceptable behaviour. Work on your come command. On your walks call him every so often and give him a treat when he comes. Practice until he comes perfectly every time. Good luck!

QUESTION:
Dog Problems(Barking, Biting and others)?
My dog is 8 months old, he is a golden retreiver and australian shepherd mix. I recently adopted him about a month ago. He is a very nice dog but he doesn't respond when called upon and sometime he would grab my foot with his mouth, seems like he is biting my foot but he doesn't really bite it. I would continuously tell him "No" but he wouldn't stop. He is starting to bite harder and harder and I have a few scratches on my leg and arm. Also, he likes to jump on the sofa, which I don't allow, and I would pull him off. Later, he would jump back up onto the sofa again and would become very angry, he would growl and sometimes bark and bite me when I try to pull him off of the sofa by pulling on his collar. It feels like he is trying to do this to catch my attention, but I'm not sure. He also bit my hand when I was trying to force him into his crate, it is almost impossible to put him in his crate. I really want to keep my dog, but he is becoming more of a problem to my family. Please Help!-
ANSWER:
You should call a dog behaviorist/trainer right away. He is showing aggressive behavior, and you'll probably need help to stop him. Without treatment, he'll get worse. It's an aggressive thing to get on the couch and growl when you try to remove him. He is not seeing that you are the boss, and that is an important lesson. He has to learn to obey without becoming agitated. I'd definitely say you have to hire someone professional to help.

QUESTION:
Having major dog problems, how can I get him to stop barking?
My dog won't stop barking!? At first I just kept feeding him to shut him up, but that doesn't work anymore. I tried hitting him with a broom handle, and now he's really aggressive, even more than before. He's only 9 months old, so I don't want to put him to sleep. I don't want to but he's aggresive to the little ones. Are golden retrievers usually this bad?-
ANSWER:
Wow, no they are not. There is a reason he's barking and it could be anything. To help you correct the issue, you need to find out why it's happening first.
There are help-websites for things like this, too. You could try key words like golden retriever, dog training, dog barking, etc.
Have you considered obedience training? That's what I would do . . . your basic classes will help you with these sorts of issues. Please don't be abusive to your dog and you are correct in knowing that's why he's now aggressive. You need to do something now or he will end up hurting someone and sadly (altho NOT his fault) will have to then be put to sleep.
These situations are so sad and can be prevented with proper training of the people.
I'm sorry if I have offended you - Just expressing my opinion. Take it for what it's worth! Good luck with your dog.

I bet a good tritronics bark collar would be less than the fines and make the neighbors like you better. If you take the receipt or collar to court and prove that you are trying to curb the barking...the judge may like you more too!

QUESTION:
Day time barking dog, problem resolved long time ago just now got summons to go to court.Never arrested. Small?
Day time barking dog, problem resolved long time ago just now got summons to go to court.Never arrested. Small dog ,only one neighbor complaining, neighborhood full of barking dogs. Pissed cop off because my dog was quiet.-
ANSWER:
You don't have to be arrested for this it is a noise complaint. How can you show the court that your dog does not site in the yard and bark when you leave till he hears your car pull up outside again. This is what you will have to show the court. A dog is allowed to bark if someone enters your premises or someone is disturbing it somehow. Buy a cheap video camera with sound hook it up to a video recorder and let it run on long play aimed towards where the dog is. Then when you get home you will get a pretty good idea of what is really going on with the dog.

QUESTION:
Chewing, biting, growling, barking, peeing dog problems!?
My family got a 5 month(ish) old beagle mix (looks like a beagle though to me although I'm not expert) from a shelter about a month and a half ago. The first week was just great. He was incredibly affectionate, gentle, and did his #1 and #2 OUTSIDE most of the time (I had him on a meticulously controlled eating/drinking schedule, since what goes in must come out...). Now, though, new problems have cropped up. He seems to pee INSIDE the house more than he does outside. Poop is not such a problem. He has only done a #2 inside the house once in the past couple of weeks. I see that more as my fault than his. His other problem is chewing.... he chews on EVERYTHING he can find. I have something called Phooey and that stopped him from chewing on the coffee table (or maybe he got bored of chewing on it, I don't know), but he still loves to chew on clothing and..... everything else. His other problem lately is aggression. Biting/barking. Any advice on how to train him?
I tried something I found in another question/answer, as far as the biting part goes. He bites me and the other humans, not just clothes and furniture. Anyway, the answer I found said to just be persistent and calm (no getting angry, impatient, or nervous about his biting). Wrap your hand around his mouth and hold his mouth shut immediately when he bites, and say, "No bite," in firm tones, but without raising your voice. It worked very quickly! He has almost totally stopped biting me and growling at me in less than a single day, with less than one hour of training. However, my 9 year old son is another issue. The dog still bites him and it's nearly impossible to get the boy to focus long enough, and patiently enough, to train the dog that HE wanted in teh first place.
Thanks for the advice on peeing, I will try all of it.-
ANSWER:
He's still a puppy- puppies love to chew and play- and always a surprise to find a puddle behind a chair or sofa- I guess my 1st question is are you at home or gone when he does this inside? If you are there when he pees in house, you need to rub his nose in it, pop him on the butt while doing it, and say no firmly- then immediately put him outside, walk around with him for a bit, and when he goes pee pee again, tell him good boy go pee pee- sounds stupid but, it works for us- We can tell our dog to go pee pee or poo poo- and almost on demand now she will do it! Buy the dog chew toys, and a can of Stay OFF - for furniture and whatever else you don't want your dog on! The aggression is just a puppy thng too- he will grow out of it- let him know who is boss-that play time is approiate outside at certain times- but no rough stuff inside or at other times- Good Luck - hope this helps!- or try the collar thing for the barking or a squirt bottle( more humane) Let me know- I'm at Yahoo!

Urgent help with my dog's barking problems?
I just got a complaint from my condos that she barks way too much continuously, and it's been bugging everyone
I agree with that, and i don't want to give my dog awayShe barks at every person she sees outside, she barks at every sound she hears outside, everything etc
I need help and some tips on how to make her stop barking at people etc or anything at all, asap
I don't want to give her away
-
ANSWER:
She may feel she has too much to protect. Some dogs just feel safer in a crate. This way she has her own small space that is just hers. Not yours to protect. Make sure you never use the space to punish her with. Only positive reinforcement. She doesn't need anything in there as long as you're not gone for long periods of time.

Bark Collars are out of the question. I'm thirteen and don't have enough money to buy a collar for this purpose, nor would I use it for more than breaking her of it so it would sit in my closet and rot.And yes, we have tried treats. Canine Carry Outs, she does anything for them.
-
ANSWER:
I've heard using static shock collars, spray bottles & muzzles. NO PEOPLE!!! Muzzles muffle a bark. Static shock collars add fear of barking even for protection purposes. And spray bottles? They only work for so long. The trick to the bottle is to not let the dog see you do it. If they do it causes a fear also.Your first mistake was giving the dog a treat to stop. The dog sees barking as a reward now. Punishing the dog for barking doesnt fair to well either. In a dogs mind any attention is good attention. Secludeing her may not be working to well for you because your dog may suffer from slight seperation anxity.
Your best bet in your situation (not wanting to go to a trainer) is to ignore the dog. Socialize the dog more. By socializing, the dog will learn to be more accepting of people entering the home. Let people entering your home know not to look at the dog, especially in the eyes. This can be seen as a intimidation to the dog. Even though the dog will still bark at first, pay no attention to the barking when it happens. Eventually the dog will see that there is nothing in it for her to continue barking.
I hope this will help you. Good-Luck!!

QUESTION:
barking dog?
Hi. Just rescued a dog and he's great!! ONly one problem, barking. He doesn't do it inside (thank god) but he does it outside. He's a lab hound mix. I can stop him from barking if he is close to me (I say a sharp "no" and if that doesn't stop him, I make my hand into a claw shape and I tap him with it. There is no force its not hittting!!! It's supposed to be like dogs correcting each other in the wild)Anyways, heres my question. How do I stop him from barking when he's not near me (running into the bushes and woods in my yard etc.)?????? He's a great dog, he really is. He's picking up commands really fast. We've had him for a week (and he knew not one command), and he knows sit, down (sort of
) and USUALLY come (we're working on that). Any tricks and advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
the barking's not excessive, but still, I need to stop it (mostly, I understand he's a dog and will bark). But please DON'T suggest a bark zap collar! It's not that bad!
the question is what do I do when he's not near me???? In the woods in my yard, etc. He hasn't mastered come, especially when he is outside and see's squirrels!!!!-
ANSWER:
You could try an air horn or a hose if in a fenced yard but once the dog is away there is not much to do. My dobe is a barker so wears a Electric collar so he doesn't annoy the neighbors and me. The Citronella ones make some dogs puke and can activate by another dog barking.

QUESTION:
What is the best dog barking control for large stubborn dogs?
I have an 85 lb boxer/lab mix dog with a huge barking problem. Anytime someone walks by the house or knocks on the door. They have some different collars out there, just seeing if anyone has any luck with any of them for BIG STUBBORN dogs(citronella, sonic, shock) Thanks!-
ANSWER:
If you have a persistent barker & training it to hush on command has not worked, then a good collar to train a dog that barking causing a negative consequence it would avoid, is the Dogtra, no-bark collar. http://www.dogtra.com/If fitted & used correctly it is safe for the dog to wear & should prevent nuisance barking which will make life more pleasant for you & your neighbors. You are right to address this issue as persistent barking can constitute an actionable nuisance in law.

QUESTION:
My dog has barking problems and if she continues, then I will have to give her up. What should I do?
I have two dogs. One is a german shepard mix (her name is Jenny) and a border collie (his name is Jax). Jenny barks a lot and we have tried different methods. The first one was to just train her not to bark. That didn't work. The second one was to use a bark shock collar thing. We thought it was cruel so we stopped using it. Then we tried a muzzle which didn't really work either. Our neighbors that live behind us have called the cops on our doogs before. Well tonight when we got home, my dad had accidently left the dogs outside in our fenced in backyard. When we got home, my mom is always so paraniod about them barking and they were barking so she said "GO INSIDE AND LET THE DOGS IN!!!!" I said "Mom, it isn't like an atomic bomb is going off if I dont let the dogs in. They called the police on them a long time ago. It's fine." Right then, we heard a blow horn that was really loud. We raced inside and let the dogs in. Appearantly our neighbors had made the noise and scared Jax to death. Now I know that if they call the cops another time then my dad will surely want to get rid of Jenny. I can't let him do that. She is like my best friend and I love her a lot. Please help me!!! I need a way to keep her quiet but some of the methods we have used don't fully work. Help!!-
ANSWER:
If you are getting complaints your neighbors, and are facing fines or having
to get rid of your dogs, look into debarking your dogs. It really doesn't
make it so your dogs can't bark, but it softens the pitch and volume of the
bark so it is less annoying and noticeable to neighbors. The surgery
consists of clipping a notch into the dog's vocal cords while it is under
anesthesia, through a laryngoscope. They do not cut the dog's throat, and
the whole procedure from the time the dog is put under to the time it is up
and running around is half an hour. It is painless and the dog can still
bark, but it barks in a whisper. They can eat, drink and play right after
the surgery with no ill effects. Debarked dogs no longer have to endure
being yelled at to shut up, getting sprayed in the face or zapped, or worse,
being poisoned by angry neighbors.

QUESTION:
Can you go to jail for someone stating that your dog is barking all the time?
I have a neighbor that keeps complaining about my dog barking all day and all night. My dog does not go outside before 10:00 and is brought in between 9 and 10:00 at night. She only barks when people go by the fence, people come up to the door and kids in the neighborhood that stand over the fence taunting her. She has made complaint after complaint, with every time the authorities come out they never see my dog barking. They hear other dogs in the neighborhood barking. She recently called my Landlord and told her that if she doesn't do anything that she will go to jail as well as me. Can someone go to jail for a dog barking, or accused of barking all day and night? She has also written a nasty letter with no return address cussing at us and calling us names. We have noticed some barking problems in the past but have corrected them.-
ANSWER:
You should check the laws for where you live.I personally have never heard of anyone going to jail for a barking dog, but I know of people who have been fined and who have had their dogs taken away because of excessive barking.
If the dog is barking on and off every day on and off for up to 12 hours a day I'm not surprised though that the neighbour is upset. I would be too and yes if after speaking to you about it the dog was still barking I would report it. Most people would.
Even if it's not non stop say someone is a shift worker. Chances are at 10am he/she is going to be trying to sleep. It's kinda hard if a dog keeps barking on and off all day. For them 10am would be live 2am to you. Even if this is not the case a dog barking on and off for 12 hours a day is a pain in the butt that no would should have to be putting up with.
If the dog is no longer being left out for hours on end and is brought in as soon as it's barks she's wrong to still be complaining, but if it's still ongoing I'm afraid she does have a just complaint and you could end up in big trouble.
It is a problem if there are several dogs in the neighbourhood barking and you are being blamed. I would suggest just leaving your dog out long enough to do what he has to and then bring him in. Then she can;t blame you if the dog is inside however much barking is going on outside.

QUESTION:
Neighbor's dog barking problem,, who and where should I get help?
My neighbor's dog would bark all night long and disturbs my right to live in a reasonable environment. At first I wanted to be nice to the neighbor but now it has reached my limit. Dog silencer wont work because his house is far (but the dog bark is so loud). He basically owns this farmland where he keeps his dog to watch and bark at his sheep or somehting so he is away when his dog barks. Writing a note to him wont work as I hear rumors from other neighbors that he is someone you wouldn't want to argue because he is not nice.(I really don't think he cares about anything as he lets his dog out there in the rain barking sometimes)
So I found a sheriff website where I can report barking dog problem, great, no answers. I sent out more than 5 letters, still no answers. I came to face the fact that they wont help me. If there is anything left I can do please help. (Please no answers like "shoot the dog with ashotgun" because Im serious and I really want to get this solved.)-

ANSWER:
i have an ACD also. he is just a joy, but he has this problem with the UPS truck.every time he hears it, or i see the warning signs he is going to bark, i say his name and divert his attention as quickly as possible. it helps if you make a noise or whistle in a different way. try a prong collar also. i use this for him when he is walking. it was recommended to me by my dog trainer i used previously. it mimics your dog's mom's teeth when he is misbehaving. just be EXTREMELY careful when you use it-- ACD's tend to hide their pain, and whether or not you notice if she feels it or not, she does regardless. after i began using this device, he is the perfect walker, and isn't even territorial when other dogs pass by. =)
good luck. ACD's will walk all over you if you let them, and if her bad habits are not halted as soon as they are present, she can and most likely will continue to do them.

QUESTION:
My Dog has a barking problem. How can I make her stop barking for no reason?
I have a little Pitbull/Chihuahua mix dog. She is 1 year old and loves to bark at EVERYTHING! I recently tried a shock collar but I felt like maybe the shock collar had been continuously shocking her because she looked scared and almost like she was in pain even though she wasn't barking. I've since removed the collar because I didn't know if it was hurting her. Any suggestions out there on how to get her to stop barking?-
ANSWER:
Barking is something that dogs do naturally, so bark collars are not an appropriate solution to the problem. Excessive barking can be an issue, and if you use a collar, you should be able to control the situation, as opposed to the collar going off every single time the dog barks. And by the way, there are collars which do not shock and yet are still as (if not more) effective than shocking. There are collars that simply vibrate and there are collars which spray a liquid with an unpleasant odor. Either way, you should have a collar that YOU can control with a remote. The thing about controlling barking is that barking is your dog's voice... A lot of people get dogs for protection, and that is exactly what your dog wants to do. How can your dog warn you of danger if she cannot bark? So it is sort of mean to punish them every single time they bark. By the way, I heard this all on the Dog Whisperer, and I thought it made a lot of sense.Anyway haha I'm not so qualified to answer this question because I kind of have the same problem sometimes with my dachshunds. It's like they feel the need to compensate for their dainty size. If I had the money, I would buy them both training collars because they really need it. But I am a poor college student!

QUESTION:
Problems with a barking dog !?
My neighbor has a large, unregistered dog that they allow to run free at night when the county dog catcher's are off shift. This dog barks all night long and drives me and my other neighbors nuts. I called the sheriff's dept and was told to call 911. this is not a 911 type of problem but I guess where I live the 911 dispatches for several area counties. Will I get in trouble if I call on a stray dog that is a nuisance ? The dog catcher here is a 9-5 job M-F and can hardly ever be reached. I have left message after message for weeks and still no reply. I live in SW Georgia (USA) but I dont want to get fined for a frivolous 911 call. Any better ideas ? Or is this a common way to do it.?

QUESTION:
Dog barking and chasing problems?
I've posted my concerns about my dog barking and lunging at people, but I think I need to re-post and be clearer on a couple things. My dog is a 3 year old rescued dog from my neighbor (who told me they didn't want him) My other neighbors told me this dog was never let inside the house since it was a puppy and temperatures reach 118 degrees.
What he does is fiercely bark at people and lunges towards them. When I opened up the door the other night he took off running at the neighbor and then when he approached her (I thought he was going to bite) he just stood by her barking at her. I would have had him on a leash had I known he would start chasing people. I'm not used to caring for abused and neglected animals. I've never had a dog with this type of behavior before let alone be exposed to such people who do not properly care for dogs.
When I try to socialize him and take him to a store, he will decide to bark at someone and when they approach him he starts wagging his tail and sometimes continues to bark but they can pet him without him biting them.
I'm really confused with this dog. He barks like he's going to bite but it doesn't appear that will bite.
Also, when I try turning him around so he is distracted from who he is barking at, he definitly does not forget who he is barking at, he fights me to look at that person again and never stops barking.
Someone said to squirt a little water on his face and this should stop the barking soon, but this does not seem right. And I will not jerk on his collar because I don't think pain should be involved with training a dog. Just because dogs don't cry doesn't mean they are not in pain when people jerk on their collars.
I want my dog to listen to me because he likes me, not because he is fearful of me. The last thing I want to do is to bring pain upon a dog who already lived 2 years in a very neglectful and miserable life. Please help. Thanks~
a12 - I am being very detailed about my dog so I can get the best advice from someone who may be a professional at this. People who are professionals do want to know as much as they can before making their diagnosis.-
ANSWER:
I'm glad you don't want to jerk the leash or spray water -- those things do nothing to teach a dog anything.I think you have part of the answer in your detailed account, despite the dog's seeming confusing to you. The combination of barking that sounds fierce, an urge to run towards a person, but letting someone pet him, sounds like the dog is confused, too. He could be torn between being fearful and interested, he could just be completely without social skills due to his early life.
We can never know exactly what he's feeling, since dogs don't talk. But, assuming there is fear here, and not just "being a bad dog," and dealing with the behaviors that you see, are always a good bet.
I'd recommend working with a trainer who understands how to use desensitization and counterconditioning, and teaches rather than setting a dog up for failure and trying to punish mistakes.
But, here are some ideas of what you can do, or what a good trainer might choose to help you with:
1. Choosing to redirect attention to you when he sees something exciting/upsetting. Work on getting him to automatically check in with you after normal daily events like coming through the door to a room, coming out of the crate, going out the door, etc.
Then, teach him a habit of looking back at you after something has distracted him -- start with something neutral, in the house, like waving a boring object in his peripheral vision. As soon as he glances away, click a clicker (or use some other marker noise) and give a treat when he looks back at you.
The rest of the process, and a video of a dog learning this, are here:
http://www.akinfdt.net/look_at_that.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuV3MOvvyr4
2. Working with friends who know what the project is, to desensitize and countercondition him to the approach of people, while also showing him that only calm behavior will get him what he wants.
Approach someone at the distance at which he *doesn't* yet react, and feed treats. Gradually, and unevenly, try getting a bit closer through lots of repeats, always keeping him "under threshold" -- not excited.
3. Do the "walking with a goal" game, starting with inanimate goals like a treat, to teach him that he has to walk nicely with you to get to what he wants. A pretty good description is here:
http://taylor.uurnet.net/pipermail/click-l_click-l.com/2004-March/000119.html
Fear can turn to aggression, so I wouldn't push him into socialization he's not ready for.

QUESTION:
Dog Barking at People Problems?
Ok, i have a yellow lab that is 2 years old, and he wont stop barking at adults! he never does anything to kids, even if he does not know them. He is the sweetest thing to kids, but when we walk him and he sees an adult he growls, the his back hairs stick up and he will bark and im afraid he will eventualy bite someone.
how do i stop this-
ANSWER:
If they are barking than they are ususally afraid. It's when they silently are going after someone that you have something to worry about. I'd start by having some of you adult friends come up to him slowly when he is barking, show the dog they are not going to hurt him then start pettting him.

QUESTION:
I have a barking dog problem. He is tied up and starts barking around 6am and continues forever, what do i do?
the dog is well taken care of, licensed, but when his owner leaves, he starts to bark non stop for up to 4 hours outside my bedroom window. HELP???!!!!!-
ANSWER:
Let the neighbor know the dog is barking when he is away. Ask if you can meet the dog, and also ask if you can provide treats.Make friends with the dog. Since the dog is right outside your window, talk to it.
Then, every time it barks, toss it a treat and ask it to be quiet. Eventually, the dog will just look up to your room, and provide a single bark asking for a treat.
Beats non-stop complaining!

QUESTION:
Dog Barking at night Problems?
We have two outside dogs ,one border colly and lab mix and one pure lab. the lab 1 yr old, that other 1 1/2 yr old. and 5 acres, but deer keep on coming at night and my dogs bark at them.
Sadly my dads a light sleeper so he wakes up. (unlike me). Then can't get back to sleep. We tried one of those electric zap collers and it worked wonders. but then I didn't put it on good one night and they chewed it up.
They don't like water (unless they're swimming in it)
do you think shooting them with a water gun will work?
Well, the dog coller isn't really broken. i just have to sew the zapper on a new coller.
(to bad i don't know how to sew.)-
ANSWER:
I would rather my dogs barked when something (or someone) was on property. You might want to get ear plugs for your dad, as long as the neighbors are not complaining, I would just let them be.

QUESTION:
Barking dog problem. Please help?
I brought a 2-year old Maltese male about a month ago from someone who couldn't keep him for some reason. I already have a 2-year old Shih Tzu so I thought they could be friends and keep each other company when no one's home. The problem is the new dog barks a lot. He's really small. You can't even feel his weight when you hold him. But he is LOUD!
When we're home, it's a little better, but when I take him out for a walk, he barks at every little noise- cars, people passing by, other dogs. I try to stop him but he just won't listen..
I tried punishing him, shouting at him, give him treats.. everything!
so I just pull tightly on the leash and run whenever he barks to distract him, but it's been almost a month and all the noise and stress are wearing me out.He is a sweet dog normally. He climbs onto my lap when I'm sitting down and likes to be around my family. But I just can't stop him from barking and yelping.
Is there any way to make him stop barking? At least during the walks.. Please help!-
ANSWER:
Train him!
First, use a trigger word. I use "quiet." Every time he barks, clap your hands to get his attention and say "Quiet." Don't yell or he'll think you're joining in on the fun. When he responds give him a treat. He will associate the word quiet with a treat, after a few weeks. Eventually you'll not need the treats. Just keep at it, and remember to keep calm. When you over react so will he! Good luck!

QUESTION:
Problems with dog when people come to the door?
Hello, I have a Great Dane. He's quite protective of our property but it's becoming an issue when someone comes to the door. I've tried making him sit, blocking, he's just so darn big and he ends up lunging at people... he's never bit anyone I'm just afraid that if we don't get this under control NOW that we could have a problem. No one is wants a very large growling, snarling, barking dog coming at them.
Thanks for any ideas!-
ANSWER:
The sit-stay command must take place when the dog is in "safe" distance from the door.
When he gets too close, it's harder for him to remain calm.
All it takes is practice and persistence.

QUESTION:
barking problems with my 1 year old dachshund?
So my dachshund is 1 year old and she is a mini. Whenever we go on a walk she barks at other dogs out of fear. She is afraid of other dogs. She doesn't have fear aggression. She just barks and her hairs stand up. This is very frustrating because she would NEVER stop barking and she gets my other dachshund to bark also. We didn't socialize her when she was a puppy which is a big mistake. How can I fix this problem? She's not afraid of my other dog.
-
ANSWER:
Good for you for asking for help! Your dachshund’s barking problem needs to be addressed before she gets worse.Unlike most dog owners, you recognize that your dachshund is barking out of fear, instead of the common misconception that she’s “protecting” you from potential harm. In reality, dogs that show the behaviors that your dachshund is currently showing are protecting solely themselves from what they perceive as a threat.
Yes, you were right the first time, your dog does have fear aggression. Although mild right now, it can get worse and it’s not something to ignore.
Fear aggression can be caused either by abuse, genetics or under socialization. You already know that your dog has fear aggression from being under socialized. It’s not too late to socialize your dog, but you’re going to have to socialize her differently than most dogs.
For example, don’t let her interact with a bunch of dogs at once off leash. Even if the dogs are calm and friendly, it’s a risk you do NOT want to take. What you might think of as a harmless way to properly socialize your dog, your dachshund could view it in a threatening way and could get more stressed and show more fear aggression behaviors. A well intended doggie socialization group could easily turn sour if your dachshund feels that she is too threatened. You don’t want your dachshund or any of the dogs in the group to have a negative experience as the result of your dachshund’s fear aggression.
Basically, for now, stay away from large groups of doggie “play dates” and dog parks! Dog parks spell TROUBLE for me and even more so for a dog that has fear aggression/dog aggression. Dog parks seem like a great idea, but, in reality, they do more harm than good. They’re not the best places for dogs. Dog parks are NOT very safe. The biggest problem with dog parks is that dogs are not supervised. Dogs run wild at quite a distance from their owners, so it’s hard to step in and stop inappropriate behavior, therefore things can escalate very quickly. Many dogs, exhilarated at the freedom of the wide open spaces in a dog park, get riled up and out of control. Rough housing and play fighting are the ways in which some dogs play, and it’s ok to some extent, but it can get out of hand and timid, fearful dogs in this environment will no doubt get worse.
You have to be the judge, but you can either try to resolve this problem with your dachshund by yourself or you may need to take your dachshund to a professional dog trainer/certified animal behaviorist.
Here are some pointers to help you help your dachshund yourself.
Never comfort or console your dachshund when she is scared and reacting negatively to other dogs. If you do, your dachshund will translate that to mean that it’s “ok” to be scared. Instead of consoling her, be confident! When she barks and her hair stands up, let her know that her behavior will NOT be tolerated! Make her sit and redirect her attention to you. Use the “Watch me” command if she knows it. If she doesn’t, use a treat or toy to get her focused on you and ONLY you. Make sure to praise her like crazy the minute she stops barking to focus on you. Once she’s focused, continue on your way, passing the other dog a good length away. I wouldn’t recommend introducing her to the other dog. That should be done further down the road, when her behavior has greatly improved at a distance.
The goal is to show your dachshund through your actions (as in what you expect of her behavior wise) that if you’re not the least bit concerned with strange dogs, then she shouldn’t be either. Your dachshund needs to learn to look up to you in what she perceives as “scary” situations and eventually, learn to trust you COMPLETELY in ANY situation that comes up.
Like I said earlier, if you feel you cannot resolve this yourself, then you need to take your dachshund to a professional dog trainer/certified animal behaviorist (not a veterinary behaviorist there is a difference). Unlike regular dog trainers/obedience instructors, animal behaviorists know more about dogs with special needs. (Please note that I’m in NO way talking about “animal behaviorist” or “dog behaviorist” as in TV personality Cesar Millan!)
If you go to a regular dog training class, you’re taking the risk that the trainer doesn’t know how to deal with more than the basic/intermediate training. My dog was a rescue and when we took her to regular training class, the instructor didn’t have a clue on how to help her not be scared of everybody and everything.

QUESTION:
Barking dog problem!?
Hi!I have a huuuge problem with my puppy. About 3 weeks ago, I received a yellow lab/golden retriever mix as a pet from my parents. At first I was excited, but then I found that the dog would not stop barking at everything in sight.
At first I started lightly smacking it on the snout to let it know that it wasn't okay, and it worked for a short time, but then it started again, so I started taking away it's food, and after about 3-4 days, it still wouldn't stop, so I took to lightly hitting it with a broom handle and that is working so far, but I know it will stop working soon.Is there anything else I can do to get it to stop? I'm afraid I'm going to have to put it down!
-
ANSWER:
i agree, the smacking was ok.but the starving was not! the dog is not gonna learn by not eating. and the broomhandle is just abuse.
what i have heard that works is, taking an empty coke can and filling it about 1/4 or half way full of pennies. tape off the top, and shake it every time your dog barks. its supposed to scare them and make them not want to bark because they wont want to hear it. just be persistant with it, that means do it every time.
or you could buy a collar that prevents barking.

QUESTION:
How do you stop a dog from barking?
We don't really have a serious barking problem but It can become one because my dog just will not shut up at night. Most the time he sleeps inside in the cage and outside with the family all day. He only barks at night when hes outside.-
ANSWER:
You can train him when and when not to 'speak'
I find clicker training is the best. Does he bark when someone comes to the door? If he does get a friend or someone you know to knock your front door. Allow him to bark then tell him "Good boy, enough" clicker, and give treats/praise. He will soon pick it up!
However a dog should not sleep outside unless you have proper kennels and a GOOD reason for keeping him outside. He is most likely lonely!

My fiance and i just purchased a house. we have two cats and a 5 month old newfoundland. my mother just moved in with her 4 year old Pomeranian. before he got here we would leave our two cats and our Newfoundland in our bedroom while we were at work. everything was fine. now that Cody, The Pomeranian is here were not sure what to do. first we tried putting them all in the same room together but i think that's just to much for my cats. then we tried putting cody in a separate room. He pooed everywhere. so today we gave them all the run of the house. Kingsley, The Newfie pup destroyed the house while Cody pooped everywhere. i'm not sure how the best way to handle this is? should we kennel them in the same room? kennel them in separate rooms? also Cody barks incessantly. he's a nervous dog and i'm not sure how to remedy this. i'm trying to think like victoria stillwell , but i'm not sure how to fix this problem??-
ANSWER:
Crate them separately, no longer than 4 hours a day. Give them more exercise. Make sure they are tired and calm every time you leave the house.

QUESTION:
a dog barking problem?
hi, this is my problem. i have 2 border collies 5 years old. when ever we are out and meet other dogs and owners as soon as we start to talk to them the female collie barks and she won't stop. you tell her to be quiet she just carry's on. she knows she's not allow to do this. it spoils the conversation we try to have because all attention go's on her. we have tried ignoring her but she goes on. we have tried getting her to sit which she will do but still she carrys on. the male dog is so good. any ideas?-
ANSWER:
You state that she knows she's not allow to do this. However the fact that she is doing it and you're not repremanding her tells her that while you may not like it (by your reaction), it IS allowed. There are devices which administer a gental shock - not enough to hurt, but enough to be irritating which are used to control barking. Once the dog is trained with this, the device will no longer be necessary. Another possible irritant/corrective measure is a dog whistle, to be used when Rover goes on one of her barking jags.I don't buy the psychological approach. Dogs work on instinct. They aren't sentient.

What problems will a dog owner get, when the dog barks too much?
When I call animal control or the police, they will go to the dog owner. Will they just tell him to stop barking? When barking does not stop and I call again, will the dog owner have to pay a fine? Does anybody know how much? I suffer and the government earns money for that.

QUESTION:
HALP! Barking neighbor dog problem!?
We have a Russian family next door. We have not had problems with them in the 4+ years we've lived here, but last year they acquired a small, extremely neurotic dog that BARKS AND BARKS AND BARKS. Part of the problem is they put it outside and leave it alone-for hours and hours and hours. I don't want to antagonize them, but part of the problem lies in that they don't care for us very much, only because they are VERY religious and a couple years ago they discovered we are atheists...they do not allow their children to play with ours. Sad, but we deal. That being said, WHAT DO WE DO? This dog started barking this morning (saturday!) at 6:15 a.m, and was left outside, barking, until about 7:45-8:00 a.m. Our bedroom is on this side of the house, and with summer, we'd like to have the windows open at times but as you can imagine, not an option with the dog..I HAVE tried writing a polite note, no response. (We have 3 rescued dogs that DON'T bark because we pay attention to them!)-
ANSWER:
Well, the obvious answer is to kill the dog and hide the evidence. No, I'm kidding. If you are annoyed about the dog, chances are that other people are also annoyed. Find another neighbor that dislikes the barking noises, and are not atheists, and tell them that someone needs to do something about it.
Slowly manipulate them until they decide to do something about it, and voila, problem solved.
I still think the 'kill the dog and hide the evidence' idea is better, but that's just because I'm sleep-deprived right now.
Good luck. If all fails, maybe it's time to start buying earplugs or sound proofing your walls.

QUESTION:
Dog barking problem ( please help ) thank you?
My dog is barking when he dosent see anybody , but when he see's us he stop barking ,, So please help I need 2 go 2 sleep
-
ANSWER:
I think your dog is barking for your attention. I think it is better to ignore that behaviour. Give him something to play. I was told to give a toy at a time by trainer. Praise when he is quiet. Give a raw bone which is appropriate for your dog to chew. Have quality time with dog such as training or fetching balls etc.
If you need to stop him straight away, command him to sit down and ask him to wait few seconds, and treat him. regular exercise helps as well.

QUESTION:
Dog barking problem - advice needed!?
I have 2 Boxers - 1 female that is 5 and 1 male that is 11 months. A year ago we installed an underground Invisible Dog Fence which works great. But my problem is.....Now that the dogs have free run of the yard as opposed to a leash, they are barking nightmares. It's been getting worse over the past year and I'm sure our neighbors hate us for it. And now the 11 month old just started to bark (I am assuming it's because he sees the older one do it.)
What they do is run up towards the sidewalk at full speed and bark at every person & car that goes by our house. Sometimes it is a normal bark, but other times it seems rather aggressive and I think it scares the people walking by.
They are rather obedient dogs but when they are in this mode they will not listen at all. Water squirting won't work because they love it.
Any ideas on how to get them to sto
I should add that we have taken them to obedient school and they passed with flying colors. They are very obedient dogs, but just not in this situation. Also water spray bottles don't work because they LOVE it.

ANSWER:
Might be time to get a bark collar. There is a kind that releases a burst of citronella scented air across their muzzle when they bark. The air startles them and they don't like the smell of citronella..You might also want to post signs that your yard is surrounded by invisible fence so people won't think the dogs can get to them. It can be scary when a dog is running flat out at you and barking aggressively.

QUESTION:
Barking dog problem - how do we deal with our dog at night on his own?
We have to leave our dog in the front room at night, in his bed, with water and food but shut the door. I dont want the dog in the bedroom (we live in a flat at the moment) and I have cats that I dont want the dog running freely with when I cannot supervise in case he attacks them (they are still fairly new to each other).
The dog is 5 years old and has come to live with me and my partner after living with my partner and his adult children until recently, so he is experiencing a big change.
Me and my partner are to be moving soon to a 3 bed house and the plan then is to allow the dog to have the run of the ground floor but to put stair gates at the bottomm of the stairs so he cannot get upstairs.
last night, the dog was barking so much and biting and scratching at the front room door that my partner and I argued and he ended up going back to his previous (empty) home with the dog.
What can we do to stop this barking at night, but keep my cats safe and remain in a relationship!!!Thanks

QUESTION:
Small dog barking problem.. considering a collar.. advice?
I have a small yippy dog (half pomeranian/ half chihuahua) and he is an absolute little darling and the sweetest thing in the world.. problem is... he has the barking problem that alot of dogs his size do.The SECOND anyone knocks on our front door he goes crazy. He continues to bark and bark at them for the first five minutes or so that they are in the house and its driving people (and his mommy!) nuts.
Ive tried every discipline method imaginable to no avail. Weve gone months where we ignore him when he does it so he realizes it doesnt get attention- nothing. Ive gone months of yelling at him when he does it or giving him a little spank- nothing.
Im at the point where im seriously consider one of those shock collars for him.. but i just.. couldnt imagine. Hes my little baby and i dont want to do anything that would harm him psychologically or anything (hes very sensitve lol!)
Does anyone have opinions on these? advice? have you used them? thanks!
-
ANSWER:
The Electric bark collar is the only thing that will stop the dog barking, guaranteed!!! Other methods may exist, but, if you need the dog to stop, only the Electric bark collar will do that!
Now, having said that, I must say that you do not sound as if you are willing to put one on your dog because you are calling him your "little baby" and you "could not imagine"...etc!! Realize that he is a dog, not a human and put a collar on him that will stop his barking and will not drive you, his owner, not his "mommy" crazy!!! Good luck!

QUESTION:
How do i stop my dog from barking and peeing when he is in his kennel?
He is a two year old housebroken dog with no health problems. I don't know how to make the barking and peeing stop. My other dog has no problems being in her kennel.
Barking starts as soon as he is put in the kennel. He is in there for only 3 hours and he pees. When I am home, he holds it longer than that.-
ANSWER:
Many dogs are usually well behaved in their kennels because it is thier den, their personal space that is there's alone. This is why they normally do not pee in there, because it is their home space and they do not want to abuse it or make it unpleasant to be in.However, your dog sounds like he doesn't want to be in his kennel, by his behavior. There are many possible reasons:
-Has he been in the kennel long? Long enough to treat it like his home? If not, then it will take a little while before he does. Put him in his kennel at the far end of the house for the night (after taking him outside to relieve himself) and leave him there for that night. Don't let him out or clean the pee till morning (clean him too if he wet on himself). Ignore him for the night though, even if he barks or pees, he needs to learn that he will be in there for a while, and has to treat it like his home. It may take a few nights (perhaps longer than a week) but he should come to understand that no matter what.
-If your dog was recently extremely frightened just before or while he was in his kennel, then he may fear the place now. Don't yell at your dog while its in the kennel, even if its barking. He needs to see the kennel as his sanctuary (den). Try the above steps for the first cause to solve this problem too.
-The kennel may be large enough that he can pee at one end and still be comfortable. If this is the case, get the appropriate kennel size for your dog.
-How long is he left in the kennel? A dog can be in the kennel for the night, and under six hours during the day, as long as they are excercised pleanty later. If you leave your dog in the kennel for too long, they will not like their kennel and immediately see it as a prison for the day. Do not put your dog in for more than six hours a day, and if you can, try leaving him out of the kennel in a normal room. Also, try putting the dog in there for random periods of time, like ten or fifteen minutes, so he realizes that just because he is in the kennel, he won't be in there forever.
-If these steps fail, your dog may have a bladder problem and may need to see the vet. It could be he is simply barking because he needs to pee and can't hold it.
Hope this helps!

QUESTION:
my dog have a exessive barking problem?
if any guest comes at home, my dog starts barking. it really disturbes me. if i try to stop him, he does not obey me. he does not stop even i beat him. please help. what should i do?-
ANSWER:
First of all, NEVER EVER beat your dog, that is not the answer. Screaming at him and spanking him will only lead to further aggression from his part, too. Dogs are sensitive to the owner's feelings and the more anxiety you display, the more he will bark and act crazy. Try to be calm, but firm with him (but without yelling) so the dog understands that you don't need his protection in that particular situation (because his instincts are to protect you). And don't forget that any behavioral problems a dog has are usually the owner's fault (lack of training, aggressiveness etc.).

QUESTION:
How do you approach a small dog that is barking at you?
Normally I have no problems with dogs. Since watching the Dog Whisper series on the National Geographic Channel, I am curious to know if there is a meathod to stop any small non-agressive dogs from barking at me. Like my neighbor's dog for example. The reason why I asked is because I want it to know me better as a good human friend.-
ANSWER:
The best thing to do when you encounter a barking dog is to stop and let the dog smell you.Don't look at it don't try to touch it and don't speak to it until it has the chance to check you out.Just stand calmly until it stops barking close to your feet or legs.Let it smell you a few times before you try to move on.Once you take a step it'll probably start barking again so stop and stand calmly once more and let him smell you again.Talk to him this time in a playful tone and offer him a treat if it's o.k. with your neighbors just don't try to touch him until he's completely comfortable with you.
Don't ever offer a dog your hand to smell right away cos he may mistake the gesture as you're trying to grab him keep hands at your sides. And don't look him in the eye or make fast movements just act calm and confident and the dog will check you out and dismiss you as a threat.

QUESTION:
What should I do about my neighbors barking dog?
My family and I moved in to our new home about 5 months ago. Their barking dog is becoming a real problem now that it's warm outside and the windows are open at night. The dog keeps my 2 year old up late and wakes us all up several times at night. We're not dying to be best friends with the folks next door, since they aren't they type that we would be close friends with ever, but at the same time we want to make as few waves as possible. This barking dog has to stop immediately though. Thanks for any advice!-
ANSWER:
I understand what you mean when you say "as few waves as possible". I also like to avoid conflict of this kind because neighbors can be there for a loooooong time. I also understand that you don't want to develop a friendship.I once even gave to some neighbors, as a present, one of those special collars for dogs that keep them from barking. I asked them nicely if they could put it in their dog's neck at night, because the barking was keeping us awake. It worked. I spent money, but it was for my own benefit.
I hope it goes well... some neighbors don't respond well to nice conversations, let alone police or other authorities involvement.
My neighbors now acquired a rooster and two peacocks... there's no special collar for those!!!

Barking Dog Problem Neighbors
Does your dog growl or bark when a stranger approaches your house or when something goes bump in the night? If so, you're not alone. Most dogs will vocalize when they are exposed to new or different situations, including strange people or animals entering their territory; being separated from their pack, mother or even your family members; or new or alarming sounds. Dogs may also bark or growl when they see prey, such as squirrels, and they may bark for attention, food or if they are anxious.
Dogs often growl when they are fearful or trying to assert themselves in a situation. If the dog's fear or assertiveness is alleviated by growling or barking, the dog will learn that his behavior is acceptable and the behavior may become more frequent or severe.
Some medical problems may cause growling or barking and older pets experiencing senile changes may have barking problems. Intense and continuous barking may be considered compulsive. Check with your veterinarian to evaluate your pet's barking or growling problem. Behavior training and drug therapy may be helpful in reducing barking for pets with medical, geriatric and compulsive disorders.
Socialize Your Puppy
Acclimate your puppy to a variety of different people, environments, situations and noises to help lessen anxiety as your puppy grows. Make sure your puppy spends time alone so that he doesn't develop separation anxiety while you are away from him (see Dogs and Separation Anxiety). Proper training is essential to preventing behavior problems, such as growling and barking. Ask you veterinarian for more information about puppy training and see Training Your Puppy).
Correcting a Barking or Growling Problem
Correcting a barking or growling problem first requires that you have effective management of your dog. Once you have achieved this, you can begin to train your dog to lessen his barking or growling behavior by using rewards for quiet behavior. The reward should be something that the dog really likes such as a favorite treat, tummy rubs, or a favorite toy. Punishment is generally ineffective in correcting barking problems. Too much punishment may even exacerbate the behavior and cause the dog to be fearful or aggressive.
Begin your training with situations that you can easily control (such as a family member making a noise that causes the dog to bark) before moving on to difficult situations (such as a strange animal in your yard). When your dog barks at the stimuli (for instance, a doorbell ring), immediately interrupt the barking. When the dog is quiet offer the dog a reward for their behavior.
Several products are available that may interrupt barking. Devices activated by owners, such as water sprayers, cans with coins or pebbles and audible alarms. Citronella Spray Bark Collars as well as Bark Collars using a static correction, are usually effective in disrupting barking and getting a quiet response from the dog. It is important when first using these devices that you are there to praise and reward the dog when it becomes quiet. Without the reward there is no incentive to remain quiet.
Bark-activated products are also effective because they will immediately respond to barking. Off-collar, bark-activated alarms or water sprayers will train your dog to stop barking in specific areas. Bark-activated collars are useful when your dog doesn't bark in single, specific areas (the collar will respond when your dog barks, no matter where he is located at the time). Audible and ultrasonic collars are sometimes effective in stopping barking, but they are rarely a completely reliable deterrent. Citronella-spraying collars are effective with most dogs. Electronic shock collar should never be used. Make sure to discuss these options with your veterinarian to find the one that will work best for your pet.
During training, barking must be interrupted right after it begins for the training to be effective. Repeat this process until the dog no longer barks or growls at the situation, person or sound.
Reward your dog when, at your request, he has stopped barking. Only reward the dog when he is quiet and gradually increase the amount of time that the dog needs to be quiet for him to receive a reward.
As the barking or growling problem decreases, make sure to direct your dog to more appropriate behavior, such as play, and the problem should lessen over time.

QUESTION:
What can I do about my neighbors barking dog?
Neighbors dog never shuts up. Anti-dog barking devices don't work, I tried that already. I don't want to talk to them, I'm afraid they will be vindictive. Police have handed the barking dog problem off to animal control who are useless. For animal control to do anything other than send a notice, you have to give your name & address which I don't want to do. Can't contact the HOA, they are on the board. The dog barks when they ARE HOME, not when they are away so I can't videotape it happening. Please help!
If I call Animal Control they want a name & address. Should I give a false name & makeup an address? What is they look it up & see it doesn't exist? If you think I'm buying the nasty thing a toy, you are crazy.
I like the idea of tape recording the barking.
-
ANSWER:
the only thing you can do is keep trying to get the animal control officer to do something if they wont then give them a false name i had to do that to someone who was head of the neighborhood watch and they got the point when they got a fine in the mail

This animal begins barking at 5 AM in the morning and goes on for hours!
Are there are any remote "trainers"-utrlasound makers which i could use to counter this barking?-

QUESTION:
My neighbors dog is pulling and ripping out the bottom of my fence. I live in Chicago.?
My neighbors dog, i don't talk to them because they are problem neighbors and their dog barks excessively and is destroying my fence, what legal action can i take? All help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.-
ANSWER:
You better tell those neighbors to take control of their dog or you're gonna call the police. I love dogs so much and they are my favorite animal but the owners are responsible and have to train their dog.
Edit: Don't buy stuff to stop the dog from destroying your fence because that will probably get ruined anyway. My dad always sends certified letters when he has problem so send one to your neighbor asking him to take control of their dog before you call the police or do something about it. Then ask them to please send a certified letter back. Keep a copy of it. If they don't do what you asked them to, take action.

QUESTION:
dog barking problem...?
How do you handle a neighbor whose dogs bark, for seemingly no reason, for hours on end? Generally starts about 8PM and continues until after I have fallen asleep(11PM). Fortunately I sleep with earplugs so they do not keep me awake. I live in an area where people leave their windows open to enjoy the breeze and it has become quite bothersome. I had the same problem for six years. We had six beagles, and 5 various other dogs on a block with 8 houses. Beagles are the worst barkers. I complained for YEARS. I would call animal control and if they came out and didn’t hear the dog bark then it wasn’t considered a complaint. The beagles would start around 5:30 a.m. My life was miserable and completely stressed. Talking to these morons didn’t help.I started video taping this nonsense out my bedroom window. I set up my camcorder on a tripod and let it roll. I got footage of one dog getting loose and biting a neighbor. I got footage of one neighbor sitting outside with their five dogs (when the city only allows three).
I was told I would have to take them to court. There was three different houses with barking dogs. One would start and they all would start barking. They basically kept their dogs outside neglected, so you can’t blame the dogs. It’s the owners. Taking them to court was not an option because there was too many of them to gang up on me. During this time, I was the owner of a very well behaved dog. So I’m a BIG time dog lover.
I ended up moving.
You have to say something quick to these people so they realize that it is affecting you. Some people will do the neighborly thing and try to get it under control. I know I would. My situation was so bad that for 6 years I never heard a bird chirp because of the dogs scaring everything away.
My new neighbors dog would bark out the window at me in my yard when she was not home. I haven’t met the neighbor yet so I left her a little note telling her that her dog was barking all the time out the window and I think that she misses you. I suggested that she close her curtains and turn on a radio when she leaves so the dog won’t be so lonely. She must have took my advice because the dog never did it again. Now that’s neighborly.

QUESTION:
How to stop neighbours dogs barking, serious problem?
Ok, i move to a very nice estate thats tidy and clean and doesent have any teens haning around but i have a serious problem, my neighbour has a labrador and that barks for about 30 minutes non stop and the owner is in letting it bark! then 2 doors down to the opposite side is a stupid white yappy thing that goes on for about 20 mins then behind is the worst, 2 yappy dogs that attack and bark at each other for up to 1 1/2 hours and their neighbours also have 2 yappy white things as well that go for about 30 minutes and i cant have 1 hour f peace, 1 of the neighbours always has their dogs out, my mum complained and called the council about 3 of the neighbours but they ignore it, PLEASE HELP im so stressed and cant even watch 1 tv programme without millions of noise and i dont want to move because its a great house and a 4 minute walk away from school. i have to study for exams and i cant please help, is there a whistle or anything to stop them? last night the 2 stupid white ones behind was barking at 2am (as usual) so im woken up and i was so close to getting up and opening the back gate and letting them loose. i hope all these 6 dogs die
woopee another neighbour behind bought a big boxer dog now 7 dogs to bark all day I HOPE THEY ALL DIE-
ANSWER:
It sucks, but remember it's not the dogs fault, so don't get mad at them, it's the owners.
Keep complaining to the council, police even, they'll do something if there is cause. If there is noise pollution or such, if it's just a personal thing then they wont do anything about it, but if it's a real problem they will.Ear plugs, noise cancelling head phones... seriously, you have a better chance of just blocking the noise than stopping it.
Good luck, with the dogs and your exams!

QUESTION:
What can I do to get my dog to quit barking at night?
There is a stray cat in my small neighborhood and it bothers my dog, who lives in our fenced backyard. If my dog gets out, he might get run over by a car or he might not come back. Anyways, the cat taunts my dog and he won't quit barking! I am up all night listening to my dog barking! And to add to this problem, my neighbors have 3 dogs that bark at him! What can I do?-
ANSWER:
Bring him inside at night. If he's not housetrained or you don't want him walking around your house or something just get a really big cage so he's not stressed out by being in it. After a few nights he'll be used to it & no more barking!

QUESTION:
My neighbor has a problem with my dog barking when she is outside. What can I do?
Firstly, my dog is crate trained and is put in her cage at about 9:30 to 10:00 pm for the night. Our neighbor had mentioned a problem with our dog barking before so we made arrangements that the dog is let outside AFTER 10:00 am. Which is, in my opinion, very reasonable. My husband had been sick all day today and the dog never got to go outside until I came home. I got home close to 4:30 and let the dog out. Another neighbor walked her dog past out house which got my dog barking. Next thing I know my neighbor is knocking on my dog asking me "Do we have to talk about the dog again?" I had just put stuff down so I could let the dog in and told her as much. She told me that it was non-stop lately and needed to stop. The problem I have with this is that it was 5:15 and my dog had been stuck inside all day. I think she is being unreasonable but I'm not sure what to do. We have already been reasonable about what time we let her out and we make sure she is in before 9 pm. Should I approach my neighbor and sit down and discuss this? Or should I get a mediator, since we have already tried to make sure our dog isn't too interruptive? I'm completely at a loss here...-
ANSWER:
#1 A dog barking at 10 am or 5:15 pm is not breaking any noise ordinances.
#2 Rather than leave the dog in the yard to do it's business and get exercise try taking it for a leash walk to blow off some steam.
#3 when your neighbor says"it needs to stop" what exactly is she getting at? Is she going to call the authorities? Report her first for trespassing and harassment. If you feel she was really threatening

QUESTION:
Potential problem with my neighbors dog?
I have been renting a small apartment for 4 years now. Its an efficiency apartment attached to a house on about 3 acres of land. We have a large shared backyard that is not fenced. I have 2 dogs, a bc mix and a pit bull mix- both super friendly rescue dogs. I have had 3 different neighbors in 4 years, they all had dogs that my dogs loved. Every summer my dogs have been able to play in the yard with the neighbor dogs. The problem is my new neighbor (since last fall) has a small dog (some kind of "designer" dog- maltese/poodle maybe) that is quite dog aggressive, I tried to introduce it to my dogs when they moved in and she frantically went after them. The owner did nothing so I gave up. All winter she has just turned the dog lose to use the bathroom, every time she comes to my side, taunts my dogs by barking and whining at the door and then uses the bathroom on my porch. Im not one to cause a fuss over something like that but I dont want my dogs to be banished to the house all summer. I pay a lot of money to live in a house where my dogs have a huge yard to run in. I can't really go to landlord because he kisses her butt bc she comes from money and the property manager already hates that I own a pit bull. If, god forbid, her dog comes after mine in the yard this summer (my dogs now stay on leashes or the line when we go out) would I be held responsible? I have told her that the guy up the road has hit dogs before and that coyotes will kill dogs but she still lets her dog run loose. I feel like my dogs are getting the short end of the stick here and if something did happen my pit bull would be blamed. Short of keeping them on a leash what other actions can I take to protect them should something happen? (protect them legally, in a fight that little dog could get very hurt- she has gone after my bc mix before and the neighbor didnt even flinch, I had to break them up and her dog bit my hand)-
ANSWER:
a) make sure they are registered with the city
b) make sure they are up to date on all vaccines, especially rabies
c) put them through the canine good neighbor testThis will ensure that should something ever occur, your/your dog's ass is covered.. it proves responsible ownership, more so than the designer mutt.
Talk to the landlord about the designer mutts aggression issues. Do it in a " Im concerned for her dog" way not an " That little rat is an effing .PoS" way...suggest that any and all tennants that want dogs should provide proof of having passed an obedience course to ensure proper manners and respect.
Worst comes to worst, set up a video camera and record the little ankle biters behavior.. when you have enough evidence, wait until the next incident and call animal control to come get the dog. Then give them the videos.

QUESTION:
Dog Barking Problem...?
ok i have a one year old jack russell terrier mix and she barks at everything and anyone. when she is outside she barks at all the neighbors who are in there yards and she doesn't stop. in the middle of the night she barks at random things and when she see's one of my neighbors in there house watching tv she barks at the because she see's them through there window. she just doen't shut the f**k up. i recently purchased one of those collars that blows air into you dogs face if they bark to much, well when the air gets blown into her face she likes it and keeps barking and tries to catch the air with her mouth. one time in the middle of the night she was barking like crazy so i gave her a smack on her rear (i am not an animal abuser) and she liked it. i tried everything in the book and it is still not working, she is a really really small dog so i do not want to buy a barking collar yet, but i think i may have to. Is there anything else i can try before i invest in the bark collar?
i give her love, yell at her, scold her and rep remand her and she just doesn't shut up, she is a really sweet god and she is always giving kisses and being playful, so i will never give her away, i love that dog but i just do not know what to do.
is it because she is a small breed dog?-
ANSWER:
Jack russells are very hyper and noisy by nature, I would try to take her to a professional trainer like they have classes at Petco for example, they can recommend how to train her, show technics, etc. I think it's possible. You can also do a research on-line how to train.
I trained my dog. When he behaves good I give him treats, when he barks I say "quiet!". Just keep saying the same command so she gets it what it means and what do you want from her, because otherwise maybe she has no clue that she's not suppose to bark. Dogs are smart and they uderstand, it's just we need to show and explain to them what is that we need from them.

QUESTION:
How do I get my dog to quit barking at the neighbors?
I adopted a dog from the SPCA and she is so sweet to me and the family. The only behavioral problem she has is she barks at older men. How can I break this behavior? I have had the neighbor take her on walks, giving her treats, etc., but she will not quit barking at him. What can I do? The neighbor has had enough of it and really wants to get along with the dog.-
ANSWER:
Continue to associate your neighbor in a good way with your dog. If she's food motivated, continue with every time the dog sees him he tosses some tasty treats her way. Slowly move to the interaction, don't force it on your dog as it may be too fast for her. She may have had a bad experience with older men in the past, so with treats, calmness and only good things associated with him are your best ways of curing the barking.

QUESTION:
Dog With Severe Barking Problem?
A lady came into my work, asking about her dog that has a barking behaviour problem. I work in a pet store, but my speciality is birds, not dogs, and I was wondering what some of the people here might tell her...She took her Labradoodle to the vet who said he may need to be put on Valium. She doesn't want her dog to be drugged up and sedated all the time so it is a last resort.
He gets separation anxiety, where ever she walks inside her house he follows closely behind. If she is even a couple of metres away he begins to lick his lips and get anxious. He barks constantly, non-stop.
She went on holiday and came back with her letterbox filled with abusive letters from neighbours saying her dog barked non-stop for 3 days. She would go to the supermarket and tie him up outside but he would immediately be barking and hysterical. So she tried leaving him in the car for a couple of minutes while she went shopping (I assume she did it as long as it was safe and he doesn't overheat - it is winter here) and came back with letters all over her windscreen saying her dog won't stop barking and she is a cruel owner.
She walks him for around 2 hours a day.
What does someone do about this? Thanks for your help.
-
ANSWER:
This dog needs to go in for a simple procedure called debarking.Contrary to what an animal rights activist will tell you, they DO NOT REMOVE ANY of the dogs vocal chords. A small hole is put in each one giving the dog a quiet bark, more of an inside voice. It is a far less traumatic procedure then say spaying, and yet the AR people freak out when you mention it. They would rather see this ladies dog taken away for being a nuisance and probably euthanized then being debarked.
I know at least 15 debarked dogs, the dogs are happy because they are not being yelled at, shocked, squirted or medicated. The owners are happy because they are not having to yell at the dog all the time, or shock it or medicate it, and the neighbors are not harassing them. The neighbors are happy because peace and quiet has returned to their home.
I would debark him AND put him on something like clomicalm. The dog can be eventually weaned off the clomicalm.

QUESTION:
How can you get dogs to stop problem barking (i.e., bad enough that neighbors are complaining)?
Shock collars are effective, but only when on, and the dogs get pressure ulcers from them.-
ANSWER:
you can have your vet burn out the vocal cords on the dog...some say it's cruel but it's no worse pain the getting our tonsils removed and ALOT of kennels use this method.

QUESTION:
Problem with Neighbors dog?
We have lived on our home for 18 years and NEVER had a problem w/ a neighbors dog. We have a new family who lives next to us who have a 2yr old pitbull that is constantly barking at our beagle running up and down the fence and jumping on it.Like full body slam! It has even broken the slats i it where we have to replace it. Not only that but, whenever we are in our yard or on our deck ,coming in our house it will bark at us. I have a garden along the fence that I truly enjoy in the summer it is supposed to be peaceful however they allow their dog to bark at me I can feel its breath thru the fence . If i'm out there for 30 min pulling weeds its barking. I get so upset. We have asked them several times out of common courtesey to stop the dog from barking so we can enjoy our yard. They say the dog is just "talking" . I cant move the garden because when it rains the rest of the yard floods and why should I have to move it to placate a dog. I dont want anyone to think I am not a dog person. I have a beagle and 2 little Chi's that I love to death. This is more out of respect for one another and common courtesey. I am at my wits end! HELP PLEASE!!!
I really appreciate everyones responses. After I posted this yesterday I found this website that has a Humane Dog Silencer . It emits an Ultrasonic wave sound and the neighbors dog doesnt even have to have a collar. So I am hoing to try it and see how it works. Heres the link in case anyone else would like to look in to it. Its called the Dog Silencer Pro
http://www.ultimatebarkcontrol.com/index.htmGood luck to everyone and Have a Happy and Safe New Year! =)
-
ANSWER:
That dog needs to be under control. I don't think pits deserve their bad reputation in most cases, but this dog sounds like it's on it's way to being dangerous: little to no tolerance of other dogs, negligent owners and a disregard for its own safety (the broken fence) I would look up pet regulations in your area to see if there's a noisy-dog ordinance or if there are restrictions on owning a pit bull in city limits. Keep an eye on your animals when they're in the yard for safety's sake. Contact animal control if the dog ever comes in your yard or gets loose, or if he doesn't have a collar with tags at all times.

QUESTION:
How do I stop the neighbors dog from constantly barking all the time when they are not home?
When they're home, it's all good. But as soon as they leave, it's non stop bark, bark, bark. I live in an apartment, and complaints to the office have gone unfulfilled. The people are pricks to say the least, and when asked if they might be able to do something about it, they respond "it's a dog. Thats what they do."Any suggestions for this problem? Anything I might be able to buy from a store? I'm willing to try anything at this point.
Oh, I should also mention that I have 2 cats and don't want to use anything that might freak them out. I'm not sure if dog whistles are heard by cats.
And before someone mentions it, I don't want to move. This is the sweetest place money can rent.
Thanks in advance.
-
ANSWER:
The answer to "it's a dog that's what they do" is "yes it is - until they are taught not to."I don't know what to do from the outside - is there a clause in your lease for excessive barking? If they didn't know I'd say politely inform them their dog barks when they're gone - some dogs do and until an owner knows they can't fix it. It sounds like these owners know. Are they above/below/beside you? Do other people have a problem with the barking also? Are the people trying anything at all? If they're at all interested in trying to amend their pet's behavior you might make a gift of a few dog toys - a Kong, or other toys to keep the dog busy when they're gone. If he's busy he's not barking. It may or may not work - but stopping a dog from the outside by a stranger if the owner doesn't try too.
Yes the owner should try this on their own - but if it works at least you'd have some peace.

Problem with barking dog.. Anyone use the PetSafe Ultrasonic Bark Control Unit?
I was wondering if anyone has used the PetSafe Ultrasonic Bark Control Unit with success? I just got a puppy and I am crate training her right now. But I have a problem with her barking when I am in the other room or when I am not home. Her barking is disturbing my neighbors (I live in a very thin walled apartment).I also have another dog and a cat in the apartment so, I was concerned about the thing being set off and the other animals hearing the sonic noise when they do nothing wrong.. Anyone have success or suggestions?! Thanks

ANSWER:
Re: How I Got My Neighbor's Dog To Stop Barking!I recently had a really bad situation involving my neighbor's dogs and their barking. I work at night and sleep during the day when people usually don't pay attention to their barking dogs.
I asked my neighbors to quiet their dogs down and they agreed. The dogs are still barking at about the same rate so I am sure that they did not take me seriously.
After weeks of not being able to sleep, I decided to check the internet and found a lot of people that recommended "The Barking Dog CD".
To make a long story short, I popped the CD into my CD player and the dogs stopped barking almost immediately. As on person stated "I almost fell out of my chair when the dogs stopped barking". I totally agree with them. It worked like a charm and wont bother cats.
The website is at http://www.antibarkingdevice.com if you are interested.
This method should also work on your own dog if you are having problems with your dog. I certainly hope that I was helpful to you.

QUESTION:
How can I get my neighbors dog to stop barking at me?
My family and I just moved in a home in Texas just two years ago. Now later we get new neighbors who just moved in months ago. They have a dog. Every time I go outside their dog just barks and barks at me through the fence. Its so nerve wrecking and annoying. What should I do to stop this problem. This dog not only barks at me it barks at my dog and the rest and my family and it barks at who ever goes outside. And it also barks all day and all night, which keeps me up all night. What can I do to stop this problem? Please its been so peaceful where I live and I can't let it be ruined because of the new neighbors dog next door. Any Ideas?-
ANSWER:
Do you know what kind of dog it is? We have three minature schnauzers next door and they found a full size on the streets and kept it. We thought our lives were a nightmare before but now they are unbearable. This breed tends to bark and bark and bark and there may be absolutely nothing that sets them off. I've tried everything including like someone suggest the treats but to no avail. We have tried talking to the neighbors but they just ignore the problem. The police won't do anything and there's nowhere to go. We have all four of these dogs barking night and day and we are going out of our mind. We are at the point where we feel like walking away from our home because there's no peace. I've tried whistles, the dog whistle, the clickers and nothing has worked to stop those dogs. I have three large Border Collies and they know better than to bark. We've taught them instead of barking to grab a ball when they feel the urge to bark. So cute to see all three running with a ball in their mouths in response to the darn dogs next door. I hope you can solve it.

QUESTION:
what can we do about the neighbors continuous false complaints of dog barking nuisance?
my mom has been accused regularly of her dog barking by one specific neighbor only. the police have visited her home on numerous occasions, about a year ago she got the dog a soft muzzle to try to avoid the neighbors false, and harassing complaints in case the dog barked at all. this weekend i was visiting my mom from new york, BTW she lives in Pennsylvania. we went out for dinner arrived home at 8:30pm the dogs went out to do their duty, and came back in within minutes, at 10:30pm there were 2 police officers at her door giving her problems about barking dog nuisance, and gave her a citation only after being jerks who didn't want to hear that her 2 and my 1 dog hadn't even been out in over 2hours while they police were there the neighbor who called and claimed to be trying to sleep was standing in the road screaming and calling my mom a liar, but not in his pajamas, the police said nothing about this! and even slammed my mom's door in her face as they were leaving, what can my mom do? this is utter and complete BULL and outright harassment!!! and now she has to deal with a citation?? what can she do, how can we fight this??-
ANSWER:
I'm not sure how the court system works in PA, specifically, but in my state all citations list an optional court date in which you can attend court and contest the citation. If your mom has other neighbors who would be willing to vouch that the dogs are not nuisances, she could ask them to write letters of reccomendation which could be taken to court. Additionally, these letters of rec could be used to prove that the "bad" neighbors are harrassing your mom with false accusations and your mom could possibly get a restraining order of some sort placed on them. However, almost every dog barks, so I'm sure the "bad" neighbor's claims aren't entirely baseless, so you might encounter some troubles. Most cities have laws about what constitutes noise violations (there's usually a time requirement, and sometimes a volume requirement) in which case the police would have to observe the violation for them to actually write out the citation. So again, if taken to court, the citation would not stand up and would probably be dismissed. Even if you can't get the citations waived, you could still fight the neighbors' harrassment - video record your dogs when you let them out, make sure the date and time is set accurately on your camera, so that you will have proof of the dogs behavior being acceptable. Ask other neighbors to vouch for the dogs' noise levels. Make an effort to curb what barking your dogs do make by purchasing a no-bark collar.

QUESTION:
Help with Barking Neighbors dog ?
I hate to leave a long question here but a bit of back story:Some new neighbors recently moved in next door, we are in a gated community with single family homes. I have a small HOA and live in Souther California (I know laws vary by region)
Since the neighbors moved in the neighbors dogs has barked insistently every second of the day (and night) that I step outside my own home. Get in my car or go into my garage.
The dog will bark for hours at times. Even nipping at anyone who gets near the fence.I ,my neighbor (to the other side) and my parents have spoken to the neighbor (whos elderly mother owns the dog) who look at us almost blankly when we explain to them that their dog barks all day.
I have called the humane society who wants my address, I dont really want to cause neighborhood problems frankly but am at my wits end with this dog. We now have had to add blocks to our fence line (just cost me 100 bucks this morning) because now the dog is digging under my fence.
The dog is constantly 24/7 tied to a rose bush on my side of the fence, he today had no food and no water. I took a photo of it just for "proof" in case something comes up, as well as a couple photos of the dog literally jumping fence height trying to bite me.
Heres my question, What can I do??
I was looking up some info on silencers. Anyone know a Good one that works, or anyone have any ideas of what I can do?
I fear though what I truly have on my hands is in-humane abuse (no food and water and one ignored vicious dog)Can I give a report without leaving my address?
Another question Can I somehow be sued for adding a silencer to the side of my home to quiet neighborhood dogs?
-
ANSWER:
Anonymous reporting varies by agency and area. Call them again and see if they allow it.They will likely ask you to leave a name, but may not disclose the info unless it goes to court.
If the dog is destroying your property, then you also have small claims civil suit possibilities as well.
If the dog is being neglected, then there is no other option. And if he's biting on top of that, then he's gotta go. Even if animal control puts him down, it's far better for the dog than living in that kind of environment.
I know it's a hard choice. GL in however you decide to puruse. : )

QUESTION:
Question about devices that keep dogs from barking.?
The idiot that lives next to me has some device that is supposed to keep the other neighbors dogs from barking. Problem is, we can all hear it. It is this piercing sound that comes every 30 seconds whether there are any dogs barking or not. I don't have any dogs and I am really tired of listening to this crap. I can't sit in my backyard for any amount of time without getting a headache. Can the police do anything about this?-
ANSWER:
I would think they could do something, it's disturbing the peace. Especially if it's just as annoying as or worse than the dogs barking.

QUESTION:
What to do about a mean neighbor and a barking dog?
I live in Tennessee. My father-in-law has lived in a duplex for a year and a half. The other side was empty until recently when an old drunk moved in. He started complaining about my father-in-law's dog barking, which none of the other neighbors ever do. My fater-in-law went around to all the other neighbors to make sure that this wasn't a problem with anyone else that he wasn't aware of. All the othe neighbors love his dog and said they feel safe becase they have had less thefts in the alleyway since he got his dog. The old drunk came over cussing about the dog and screaming and saying he was going to kill it in front of my children. Can he legally kill my dog, can we get in trouble for the dog barking, and can anything be done to him legally for his behavior? The dog is not mean and doesn't growl. He has bnever hurt anyone. He doesn't even look mean. He is just a very happy playful loving dog.-
ANSWER:
Answer to one of the most obvious questions: No, he can't legally kill your dog.
Answer to another question: Yes, you can get in trouble for your dog barking.
Whether he's a mean drunk, or a quiet old lady, if your dogs barks and other people hear it outside your house, then it's your responsibility to make it stop or animal control can, in fact, take your dog.
I have 2 dogs. 8 months after living in my apartments an old lady moved in across from me. I never knew my dogs barked during the day b/c I go to work (and so does everyone else around me) and no one ever complained before. She doesn't work so is home all day and informed me of the problem.
One day, I left for work, but hung around the parking lot for about 5 minutes to see if my dogs really barked, and if they did, if it was even annoying.
Sure enough, shortly after, my dogs started barking & howling like I have never heard them before! I couldn't believe it.
Since then, I've had to keep them in my bathroom when I leave.

QUESTION:
Dog barking problem...any suggestions?
I have a small dog, and he doesn't bark a lot unless he hears a noise or a stranger at the door; which I really like. Though I'm moving from a house to an apartment and he barks for a few hours when i leave in the morning. I don't want my neighbors to complain or even use the shock collars, high pitch nosies, or the c spray collar.Does any one have any suggestions for training him not to bark when i leave?
I'm afraid to leave him alone with the spray collar, or scare him with shock collar...even if it takes one time. I don't like the high pitch noise because i still want him to bark when strangers come in.
Thanks

QUESTION:
How do I stop my dogs from barking at my neighbors dog?
I have a shepherd and a collie shepherd mix. Neither one has had issues with my other neighbors dogs, weiners and a chow. Sometimes they run the fence line with them but it's all in good fun.
However---since moving in last march, the neighbor katty-corner from us got a dog, and it's been yapping at all hours. My dogs would bark back, and at that point I would call them back inside. Problem solved..
But now, the neighbors directly behind us (who don't have a fenced yard) are letting a new dog out in the backyard, and it's causing chaos. I can't let my dogs out long enough to pee without a crisis! They do NOT listen, even if I walk to my fenceline. My shepherd could easily clear the fence if she wanted to, and I'm afraid that's what's going to happen if I don't get this situation under control. I will NOT buy a shock collar of any sort. What can I do to focus my dogs attention back to me and heed commands?
Also, these neighbors happen to be (very)extended family. My yard is on a hill sloping down towards their yard...
We have a fence.
And we're on a hill...did you read my full question???
Look WH, obviously the person that posted prior to you DID NOT IN FACT read the question. That person would have read quite clearly that we had a fence and the yard was on a slope. I don't know what your issue is, but perhaps a quick jog around the block would be beneficial?-
ANSWER:
When you say that you would not use a shock collar, do you know that some of them just spray citronella or another nasty smell onto the dogs face?. Electric shock collars are dreadful and you must operated this yourself. A collar which sprays a nasty smell is triggered by the dog when it barks.
Believe it or not, one of the simplest ways to teach a dog not to bark is to teach it to bark on command. First, find a way of enticing your dog to bark. You may find it will bark out of excitement if you hold its food bowl up in the air, or you may only need to use a titbit, or a toy. Tying your dog up safely may also increase frustration, and stimulate it to be vocal. When, with a bit of friendly teasing, your dog does bark, praise it and repeat the word 'speak!'. If you do the exercise often enough, your dog will associate the word 'speak' with the act of barking and you will be able to get it to bark on command. The point of the exercise is then to introduce the word, 'quiet!' or 'stop!' while your dog is barking, and give it a toy or food treat. If the exercise is repeated often enough, your dog will associate the signal to be quiet with the cessation of barking and a reward. Never ever shout at your dog when it barks, he will think that you are joining in..

QUESTION:
my dog's won't stop barking at the neighbors and their dogs.?
We just moved from a house with 8 foot privacy fencing all the way around into a house that merely has a chain link fence between the neighbor's dogs and my own. This is becoming a real problem as we're having to basically "take turns" letting our dogs out. My dogs are pretty aggressive with strange dogs and strangers. And the neighbor dogs bark right back. This is getting annoying having to step outside and ask my neighbors to let their dogs in so I can let mine out. I just need some suggestions before I lose my mind. I have 4 small terrier mix dogs and the neighbors have 2 medium sized dogs. Thanks so much!!P.S. As effective those collars might be that shock the dogs when they misbehave, I can't bear to do that to my dogs, so I won't use that as a suggestion.
I really like the idea about putting those chain link slats into the fence so that the dogs can't see each other. That's a great idea. That's the kind of solution I'm looking for. Thanks so much!-
ANSWER:
I have a boxer who barks at everybody and everything! I tried a trainer, tried walking out with him everytime he went potty so I was there to correct him, tried upping his exercise...honestly, the only thing that worked for me was a shock collar. Before the boxer I swore up and down that I'd never get a shock collar for my dogs, but then I did some research on them. There are collars available that you can control the frequency on. They don't shock the crap out of them, just give an unpleasant vibration that gets their attention. My boxer only wears his when he goes outside to potty. He's only been shocked once...that's all it took! The batteries died, so it wouldn't even shock him anymore if he did bark, but he doesn't know that. I'm happy to say, he's not outside barking like a crazy man anymore! I'm thrilled! The collar did wonders for us!!!

I don't want to go to my neighbors door and ask them cause they don't seem to friendly ( they look like gangsters ). QUESTION:
Will the machine effect my dog too?
I want to get one of those machines that go off with a high pitched noise to stop the neighbors dog from barking. The problem is that I have a dog too. When the machine goes off will it effect my dog in a negative way too. My dog stays in doors and does not bark. Their dog is always outside. Is there any way I can protect my dog while stoping the neighbors?-
ANSWER:
I think you mean the "Super Barker Breaker." If your dog is inside and the device is outside your dog shouldn't be affected at all. I haven't heard many success stories with those things. I tried one for my own dogs and it worked for a couple days and then the dogs learned to ignore it. Everyone else I have talked to who tried one had similar results or it had no effect on the dog at all.

QUESTION:
What should I do about neighbors barking dog?
I know what I should probably do, but am avoiding it. My neighbors got a puppy last year and I guess the novelty wore off. The dog now stays in the backyard all by himself. Nobody plays with him and I don't think he has many toys (I've peeked over the fence) He constantly chases his bowl across the patio and barks indefinitely. I know he is just lonely, I have even offered to the kids to bring him over to play with my dogs. I have tossed some rawhide chews over the fence just to keep him busy so he quiets down. I don't want to call the authorities on them because I don't want to cause problems (plus I wouldn't want them to do it to me, even though my dogs don't bark). Should I leave a note on their door? Please suggest anything, I know I am eventually going to have to suck it up and say something, I just don't know how. Help before this dog drives me to the nut house!
to "ello!"- that's just wrong. As much as the dog drives me nut's, I could NEVER hurt the poor thing. At first I thought the owners were not home all the time when he barked. Then one night, I saw that they were home and did nothing to stop him barking. I know they can hear him, because I can hear him at the opposite end of my home.
to Bluebonnetgranny- I can understand having a trained guard dog or something along those lines. At least he would be keeping both of our houses safe. The problem is he doesn't bark at just anything. He barks to himself, I have watched him over the fence just chase his bowl and bark at it, or just lay there and just bark for the heck of it. I have three dogs that will bark if something is wrong. They do not bark at people walking by or at stray cat's. They don't even bark back when he barks. It's called well behaved dogs. Thanks for your response on the opposing side, but whether or not you trained your dogs to watch the fence, they still sound like they are excessive barkers, not guard dogs.-
ANSWER:
I would speak with the owners first and if that doesn't help, I would contact animal control. I had to do the same thing with my neighbors. I tolerated their 4 dogs for 2 1/2 years and finally had enough. I haven't heard anything out of the dogs in over 6 months. Good luck!

QUESTION:
How do I get my neighbors dog to stop barking so much!?
I like my neighbors, we dont talk very often anymore, but they are kind hearted. They have no control over their 3 kids. The children are brats, they always leave a mess in the front yard that ends up blowing into our front yard, they are EXTREMELY loud in the summer late at night and parents dont do anything. Anyways, their previous dog was old and deaf and recently died. This summer they got a german shepard puppy. The dog is about 6 months old. Over the past few months, the dog barks late at night and just when you think the dog went to sleep...it starts to bark again around 11pm ish, all this barking is going on while the owners are at home. They do nothing about it! Not to mention the dog barks continuosly EVERY morning, well maybe mostly on weekdays at 5:30/6:30 in the morning. Again, the owners are home and just let the dog bark. It bothers me for many reasons..#1) I am unable to sleep in #2)my husband sleeps during the day and it is effecting his sleep. #3)my youngest daughter's (1 yr old)bedroom window faces the neighbors yard, she has adapted to falling asleep with the barking at nighttime, but the morning barking wakes her up early every morning.
Not to mention....the dog barks alot during the day too, when the owners are not at home. I fear talking to the neighbors about it, will make things akward, because last summer we came to find a couple of their kids in our backyard , they rudely said they were looking for their ball that accidently came into our yard (I believe it). The problem I have with that is, we have a swimming pool and if anything bad were to happen we would be liable. When this incident happened...my husband walked next door to talk to their dad, hubby knocked on front door and was greeted by the 3 yr old little girl, hubby walked in to find dad sleeping on couch. hubby woke dad and told him about his kids in our backyard. The dad didnt think it was a big deal, cause they were looking for a ball, anyways my hubby nicely asked that they not do that anymore and have them wait till we get home next time. After that incident...it was a bit uncomfortable everytime we saw them. THat is what I am worried about.-
ANSWER:
if they don't care about what the kids do, then I am sure they won't care about the dog and what it is up to.............you have a right to have peace, especially at night and the neighbours need to know, either talk to them and tell them their dog is constantly disturbing your sleep and that of your child ( difficult if hubby has to sleep during the day) however it shouldn't be constant barking then either...and if not then phone environmental health ( or whoever deals with noise/animal behaviour in your city) and make a complaint...they will come out and monitor the noise, speak to the neighbours and often warn them about future noise or if it is bad fine them.being a little bit uncomfortable is better than getting no sleep for the time you live there.

QUESTION:
Neighbors barking dogs...?
My neighbors have several large dogs...i know at least 5 but I think I counted 9 running around. My problem is they bark too much and when one starts they all start. I hate to report them as they seem to take very good care of them but they keep getting more dogs and the problem keeps getting worse! It's to the point now where I've been woke up several times from the dogs barking. I kinda mentioned it to them and they just changed the subject and I hate to get anyone in trouble.Does anyone have any inexpensive ideas as to how to reduce hearing the barking from inside my home..at least my bedroom so I can sleep peacefully?-
ANSWER:
You can buy a white noise machine to help block all sorts of noise, also there are devices you can put in your yard that make a noise that people can't hear to disrupt the dogs' barking. I think it's called a "bark free". Try KV Vet supply for this.

QUESTION:
how to deal with a problem neighbour with four barking all day dogs?
next door to me my neighbour has four dogs one a rottweiller one a bull terrior and two mongrolls and they leave them in the garden all day barking at anyone who walks past we live on a main road aswell i have tried talking to them but no good also i want to sell my house and this doesnt help-
ANSWER:
Dogs are allowed to bark for no more than 20 minutes at a time, after this barking constitutes a noise nuisance. Environmental Health at your local council should be able to help by writing to your neighbours and asking that they stop this nuisance. If they fail to comply then action can be taken. You do not have to put up with this

QUESTION:
My pups barking. Neighbors complaining in my apartments?
Ok. So I moved here 4 months ago in a pet friendly apartments. In my building complex we are allowed to have pets. Two at the most. I got two puppies, a pug and yorkie. Both are very playful with each others. Only the yorkie barks when they play but not constantly. Just a bark here and there and then they are quite for a long period. Now Im getting a call from the leasing office saying that my neighbors are complaining. This barking problem they saying isn't louder than the 2 little runts running all day upstairs. I dont understand whats to complain when Im in a pet friendly building! Im paying an extra on top of my rent for this and also an additional 0 pet deposit. WTF! Its like I cant allow my pups to have a normal dog life like they should? Cat meows and dogs bark its that simple. I dont see how her small barking would disturb the neighbors. btw, I evaluated this out when I took an entire day off to sit and watch tv all day while watching and listening to them secretly. What are your opinions?
I forgot to mention that they are out in the patio from 9am to 6-7pm. Other times are inside their home dog cage inside our apartment.
Im saying that the kids upstairs running all days is normal for their age. I dont call and complain like whoever would complain about our pups. I have witnessed that our yorkie only barks only when she is playful. Not because she wants to go inside. I can see how both would rather stay outside than inside because everytime I open the cage they run to the door to be open to go out to our patio.-
ANSWER:
record it. leave a tape recorder on when you leave. they might behave totally differently knowing you are at home than when you are not. also this will be proof to the leasing office that your dogs don't bark.

QUESTION:
Barking Neighbor Dog Issues?
My neighbor goes to work and leaves his loud-ass German Shepherd outside and the dog barks constantly during the day, I've asked him if there is anyway he can keep his dog quiet, and I've tried to be polite about it, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. What do u suggest I do? 1: Call the police with noise complaint or 2: Get an anti-bark device to put in my backyard (which is money out of my pocket) I sleep during the day and work at night, and hate to cause problems with neighbors, but it seems like I have been as nice and fair as I can be. Any other suggestions?
To be fair, the dog is let in at about 3pm everyday, but 7 hours of barking is ALOT to listen to.-
ANSWER:
My Neighbors And The Dogs From Hell!We had been having trouble for months with our neighbors and their dogs. The dogs will bark all day and all night and it does not seem to bother them.
I have tried everything from cursing at the neighbors to calling the cops but nothing worked and it seemed like the cops felt like they had better things to do.
I finally found a solution to this problem and I could not believe how easy it was. Just go to http://www.antibarkingdevice.com and it will show exactly how to stop your neighbor's dog from barking.
I just popped their cd into my stereo and blasted the dog with an ultrasonic sound that humans cannot hear. It worked after one day and I was totally amazed. Anytime I hear them bark, I give them a taste of the blast just to remind them not to bark. You will love the power of shutting them up!

QUESTION:
My neighbors dog is always barking. Day and Night. How do I get it to quite?
I got new neighbors about a year ago and they have a large German Shepard that just won't shut up. So far I have just put up with the problem. At first the dog was always tied to a tree. Always. But after getting free at least three times my neighbor finally put him in a kennel. And as far as I know the dog never gets let out. Which is really sad because I think it is a good dog. But now that it is warm out I want to open my windows but that just makes the barking louder. I have just had enough. Now the twist. My nabior is a deputy sheriff. And that can make things a little more difficault. Help. I think I might have to sell my house if I can't get a good nights sleep.-
ANSWER:
"Now the twist. My nabior is a deputy sheriff. And that can make things a little more difficault."Your local shelter or that sort of thing will either have nothing to do with the situation, or won't be able to do anything about the situation. You can try, don't be surprised if nothing gets done.
If the dog has gotten out before, it is bound to happen again, be a shame if it got run over on the nearest highway.

How to deal with a neighbor's barking dog?
My neighbors have a German Shepherd who is pretty vocal. Are there any humane ways to stop the barking? I have a Doberman and a Rott mix, and they just stare at the fence like, "What is this guy's problem?" lol Needless to say, the barking is constant, and confronting the neighbors is out of the question because I have a feeling they would only encourage barking if they knew it bothered us. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Report them for noise. If you're not willing to confront the owners themselves, this is your only option.

QUESTION:
neighbor with the barking dog?
i am one of those neighbors with a barking dog. we just moved from the "country" to a neighborhorood. i guess my dog didnt adjust as well as we did. yesterday our new neighbor we have never even met walked over and said he had a problem with our dog barking and couldnt sleep because he barked all night. (we were out for the evening and didnt know.) he also said everytime we leave the house the dog barks at everything. he wasnt mean about it just annoyed (as well as all the other neighbors he says.) i feel bad because i didnt know he barked and now feel like all the neighbors hate me and i havent even met them or lived here for a month! what do i do? apology letter? if so what do i say.. what about the other neighbors?-
ANSWER:
A nice apology letter - written from the dog would be a nice gesturePerhaps:
Dear nice people next door:
I am sorry that I have been barking a lot lately. Everythings is just so new and there are all these loud noises that I have been experiencing for the first time. I was trying to let you all know that a plane was going overhead, a truck was driving by, but yesterday my mom told me that you all knew these things. I am going to try better not to bark. In fact, instead of leaving me outside all of the time (see I was used to that living out in the country), my mom and dad are going to leave me inside. That should really cut down on the barking.
If I become too bothersome again in the future, please come talk to my mom and dad. They are really nice people and they love me a lot and we will all try to make sure that the neighbors (you guys!) are happy to.
Nice you meet you all - and sorry for all that racket!
love
Fido
And it's time to keep the dog indoors when you are gone. It isn't the country, you have neighbors now and you can't leave your dog outside whenever you are gone if he is making this much noise.
Crate training is NEVER too late to start!

QUESTION:
How to handle a neighbor's barking dog?
Okay, so I live in a mobile home park and obviously we live close quarters with other people. Our neighbor behind us has a dog that is always left outside when the homeowners leave to go to work or something. I've already spoken to the owners of the mobile home park about the problem, and they made it a little better, as in the dog isn't barking at 11PM anymore. But he still barks throughout the day. I don't want the dog to be taken away or anything like that, I just want a way to quiet the dog down.-
ANSWER:
Leave a note on their door and let them know that their dog is still barking during the day while they are at work . Maybe they are not aware that the dog is bothering you or barking during the day . try to be kind to your neighbors cause you dont want to make them enemys. good luck.

QUESTION:
Neighbors dog a nuisance...?
Neighbors dog a nuisance...?
Alright. Here's the situation. I live in a triplex, in the middle. About 4 months ago, I got a new neighbor (we'll call them neighbor A) who has a Lhasa-Poo (Lhasa Apso and a Poodle). My other neighbor (neighbor B, who's not the problem) just got a little puppy. Well our community only has tiny patios, then beyond that is grass and that's considered the common area. Our bedrooms are on the back side of the house where the common areas are and their dogs are let out.The problem: I work at night and sleep during the day...
Ever sense neighbor B got their puppy, neighbors A dog always likes to go under my bedroom window and bark at the other dog for 20 minutes at a time, even if neighbor Bs dog isn't there. Meanwhile, I'm trying to sleep. I get like 3 hours of good sleep before neighbor A lets their dog out for the first time. Then it's every hour or two after that and I can never get any sleep.
Their dog is tied up to a chain, but the chain is long enough where it extends under my window (that's really long). I have asked them politely if they could do something so that he's not right under my window when he's let out, or not barking in general. I suggested shortening the leash, or tying him up somewhere else, or even a bark collar. Well, he decided he didn't want to be polite and solve the problem so he just started arguing with me saying that dogs bark. That's what they do. Close your window. Put earmuffs on. He pays for that backyard area too. <--He said that. I said, that it's summer, it's too hot to close the window and why should I have to go out of my way to make myself comfortable when your dog is the problem? And if there's any area that he's dog can be it's right beyond his patio, not RIGHT under my window. I play drums and I was like, what if I just decided to play drums right outside your window??? It's the same concept.
We live in base housing, and I told him that, in the handbook it says that if you have a dog, you need to respect your neighbors. It also says that if you have a problem with your neighbor to try and solve it with them before you go to the office and make a complaint.
At the time I was on Paxil (an anti-depressant) and my husband is on deployment, so already it's hard enough for me to sleep.
Well, things ended up getting pretty heated when I found out that my neighbor was sending emails to my husband that were full of lies saying that I was threatening him and his wife. The only thing I ever said was that if he didn't take care of his dog I was going to go to the office, just like the handbook says. That wasn't a threat, I was just letting them know. I'm up here all alone, no support from anyone. Husband is on deployment who because he was getting those emails doesn't want to talk to me or even hear about it. My parents live in a different state and don't really have the time to talk. So worse came to worse and I was at the lowest low and an altered state of mind because of my Paxil (psychological effects) and saw that my neighbor was outside, went outside with my neighbors gun in front of him and pointed it at myself because I felt that I had no where else to go. I WASN'T GOING TO SHOOT! I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A POINT THAT HE WAS MAKING ME PSYCO because of my lack of sleep.
So I ended up spending 2 days in a hospital for medical eval and what not...
Here's my question...this was about 2.5 weeks ago, can I still start a claim in small claims court for all the problems his dog cost. I had to call off work and I have a medical bill. I have researched that I can ask for /day for the time that the dog was a problem. But can I ask for the money I lost when I didn't go to work for 2 days and the money for the medical bill?
*not neighbors gun...my husbands gun.
I DID talk to the neighbor. I've asked many times for them to do something about it.
Dude! I made a mistake in my typing. This is a true story. I wouldn't waste my time writing it if it wasn't. I have better things to do if that was the case.
Okay...stop with the bogus answers to get more points...such as Bazinga! Obviously you don't know about small claims court because I have done my research and could do a claim against him for this. I'm just trying to find out more info before I do it.-
ANSWER:
The dog didn't cause your medical bill, your medical condition did. If this story is even true (you lost me when you couldn't get your story right about whose gun it was), you do have a right to complain to base housing about the situation, and his dog should be chained closer to his own patio. But cash? Not a chance. Small claims is for retrieval of money lost, not for punishing your neighbor for having a noisy dog.

QUESTION:
What to do about my neighbor's dog barking non-stop?
My neighbor's dog has been barking non-stop since early this morning! This is not the first time the dog has done this. I think he/ she may possibly do this while they are gone. We live in an apartment building that is very acceptable to pets(which is great!). I know that this apartment has 2 cats. We were told that the lady below us has 2 cats, a middle school aged daughter, and wanted to know more about us from the landlord before we moved in. We were also told that we were in a very quiet section. No problem. Last summer they got a dog. It barks non-stop for hours until they get home. This is not the first time. Should I write them a note?
I slipped a note under their door that said:Your dog has been barking non-stop for hours!!! This is not the first time either. We understand that your dog may just be bored when you're not home. Please just know that it is a nuisance to those you live by.
How does that sound?
-
ANSWER:
If the dog is alone at home when its barking is out of control...then yes you need to inform the neighbor in a tactful manner to let them know that it is really annoying when they leave the dog alone...but understand that dogs DO GET BORED when not getting attention or is alone at home. No dogs get along by themselves while they are home alone, unless they are better trained.
If the neighbor is resistant of contributing towards gaining a solution...Then its time to get the landlord involved...of course you can explain the you're not against anyone having a pet, but the dog that's constantly barking loudly is a nuisance and it should be under better control somehow. If the landlord is not much help, then suggest to the neighbor to call the "Dog Whisperer" or a professional trainer or something and get help from there. Otherwise it'll be further out of control, making things more uncomfortable for you and maybe other tenants.
If none of the above will work, then maybe get Animal Control involved, they may be able to help the owner learn of ways to get the dog to control such an annoying behavior.

QUESTION:
Problems with my neighbor/dog barking?
So my dog barks. A lot. We're really working on getting her to stop. We spray her with water when we're home, and bought an anti barking device for when we're not. It makes a noise everytime she barks, and it seems to be working. My neighbor is apparently fed up, when he came home she barked, and he yelled at her. I stuck my head out and was like "really? Way to be an adult." he yelled some other stuff, then went inside. The he knocked on the wall for like five minutes and I yelled at him that if he wants her to stop, he shouldn't antagonize her. I don't care if she barks, so I turned off the barking device and just let her bark. Finally he stopped, but when I took then out for a walk, he opened his door and made noises so she'd bark at him. I know she barks a lot and it's annoying, but I feel like he's being a total jerk. I'm looking for thoughts, opinions, and solutions to the issue
Obviously I care if she barks since I'm taking measures to prevent it. And I'm not willing to get rid of my dog, we're in a year long lease, and only 3 months in. If I could move, I would. If you don't have anything constructive to say then I don't need your thoughts, thanks-
ANSWER:
omfg what a jerk. people can be stupid, i understand. you're being a very responsible owner by doing what you're doing right now, though
is your dog under-exercised or bored? that's often the problem. take her out jogging, play some frisbee, give her a bully stick, do some training with her, or buy her a kong. [if she's an active breed, of course] some people are just like that, and there may be nothing you can do about it.
but anyhow, be firm with her when you want her to stop barking. hold the sides of her head in your hands and make her look you in the eyes, and tell her that you mean it. it's the equivalent to taking a little kid by the shoulders, bending down, and shaking them, saying you mean business.

QUESTION:
The neighbors dog barks all night...and my dogs bark in retun...is there anything I can do?
New neighbors recently moved in to the house next door. They brought their two dogs with them, a large golden retriever type dog, and a mid size mutt. The larger dogs barks constantly. Throughout the day, into the evening until they bring him in for the night (around 11-12 on weeknights), and then they let him out again about 6am and he starts all over. Now, I know my options and recourses I could take if this was simply the problem. However, once their dog starts barking, my 2 small dogs get worked up and threatened and start barking back. I have tried keeping them inside, and shutting the doggie door, but this isn't healthy for them as they don't have the chance to play outside, and they are ruining my carpet because they can't go outside to go to the bathroom. I must do something to fix this situation, but I am concerned that any action I take could be turned around on me cause my dogs are barking too....as I said before, the other dog barking causes them to bark, but I am not sure if the neighbors recognize it or if the police will care. Any suggestions? Do you think I should be worried about this, or do you think the police/animal control will understand that my dogs are just responding to the threat? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!-

QUESTION:
Problems with neighbours dogs barking?
I have been going onto websites to get the website holders send me booklets/leaflets on barking dogs. This I will sent to the nieghbours via the mail system.
What potensial complications could there be using this method?

ANSWER:
It's always best if you can go and talk to the neighbors. But, I also know that the type of people that let their dogs become nusance barkers are not usually the type open to discussion. I doubt the booklets will help, but it's worth a shot. If you have a well funded animal control, you can put in a complaint. It would help if other neighbors also complained. Then animal control will send them a letter and tell them to keep the dog quiet. If you don't have an animal control that will respond to noise complaints, you could get with other neighbors and all go talk to these people at one time. There's strength in numbers.

QUESTION:
Problem neighbour/dog owner?
I really just want people's opinions on how to deal with this particular neighbour.I myself have 4 dogs - ranging in age from 10 to 2 1/2 - and walk them all 2 to 3 times a day (they each get walked separately). I have one neighbour who lives round the corner from me and he ALWAYS has his dog running around in the street. It's never on a lead, and half the time him and his wife aren't even in the house to monitor it. It's runs all around the estate, barks at everyone who goes by, and every dog/cat it sees as well. At least once a day his dog will try to fight with one of my dogs whilst we're on a walk. Last night, for the first time, he was walking with his dog (still not on a lead), and his dog ran over to my dog and started barking. Mine barked back, and my neighbour started shouting at me because my dog is bigger (she's a labrador, his is a jack russell), and I should have controlled my dog's behaviour (I did tell her to sit, and be quiet which she tried to do but his simply wouldn't give up). I simply explained that as my dog was on a lead and on the other side of the road to his, my dog wasn't to blame, him and his dog were. This afternoon my dogs were all in my garden (it has a 4ft wall all around it) when his dog came over to the gate and yet again started barking at my dogs (it does this several times a day). He just happened to be driving by when this happened, and yet again he started shouting at me for my "out of control" dogs. I have no idea how to tackle this. Surely he should be taking responsibility for his dog? My dogs are always on a lead, the only time they're out of the house and not on a lead is when they're in the garden which, as I said, has a wall around it so they can't get at other people/dogs. Whereas, his is always running free, he's never got a lead on it and it attacks anything that moves. A few people have already approached him and asked him to either keep his dog in the house or get a lead for it, but he just refuses to listen, plus he's at work the majority of the day so it's quite hard to actually get a hold of him.
Any advice/opinions are welcome. Thanks.

ANSWER:
catch the dog, trap the dog, and turn over to animal control ... maybe when he has to pay to get his beast back it will change his opinion ... have you complained to animal control yet ??? you could also get up a petition from the neighbours who are concerned to back up your complaint to animal control ... that is super annoying and i would want to drop kick that dog if i had to deal with it daily ...
